Where is the fun in preventing the demons from spawning? It is like avoiding the dragons.

Then don't do it.

Thanks for posting that info.  I can't believe I've been trying to play on Nightmare without ever trying to get rid of the beams.  The window for hitting them must be pretty short, but still, even getting rid of a couple of the baddies would be a huge edge.

Last night I very nearly shut a rift down in 2nd phase. Pause game, Solas Dispelled 1, Dorian Dispelled 1, Cass Dispelled 2, Main killed 1. Only one wraith spawned. Was kinda epic. If one of the spawns had been just a smidge closer Solas could have knocked out 2.

say this again on nightmare because......its a nighmare for loosing xp, its highly likely you hit the max level before finishing the game anyway

Thanks again to the people who posted this info.  I finally had a chance to try it out this morning, on a pair of rifts that I was having huge problems defeating on Nightmare.  The loss of XP for not killing a couple of baddies seems negligible considering that you can just hit a few bears or respawning undead to make up for it.  I'm just glad I have options when a rift is just too difficult.

Yeah I knew about this, you can dispel you can melee attack it etc etc, but in hard or nightmare you can usually only take one out cause you need to focus fire on one and you wont have enough time for more, BUT, and this is something everyone can do, save your main character AoE rift ability that does spirit dmg and alot of dmg to deamons, and do it around spawn points, even nightmare you can usually destroy the entire second wave before it even spawns.

are you even sure you get xp for rift demons? I feel like i only get rewarded xp after ive closed the rift
