Hey guys, am on my 2nd playthrough with a mage, and I just got to skyhold. I remember in previous playthrough, I was getting a quest to find a number of books spread around the castle, but I can't seem to trigger it now?

I did speak with all companions twice (just after settling in skyhold, and again after I left to hinterlands and came back so I can access all areas). I did search through the castle trying to find the initiator (probably some books in a place?). Tried speaking with Varric.

Any clues? Thanks!

Some mage-looking guy in the library. He's near Dorian. There's only 5 people you can communicate with in the library so he shouldn't be hard to miss.

Dorian, Fiona, Tranquil, Librarian. Who am I missing?

(Or did you take the Templar path and are referring to Dorian, Tranquil, Librarian, Solas, and Leliana?)

I spoke with everyone in library and nothing (I conscripted the mages if that helps).

I think my book thing started once I found the library in skyhold that had the books to read on the shelves. I don't remember how I found that room, though. I'm still Lost in Skyhold most of the time.

There's an unnamed mage just past the research station, if that's the one you mean.

He should be there right after you help the Mages, but i think you have to ally with them.  He was there when I allied with them, but this playthrough I picked Templars and he's not there

He's there for me, and I allied with the templars. He's standing in the alcove right by the table where you hand in the creature research. You can't talk to him, but if you click on him, he says that he only received part of the book shipment, and that starts the quest.

Wonder if mines bugged then and that's why he's not showing up

Still no luck finding this mage I've been to every inch of this tower I've either not trigger him or the games bugged.

What is the trigger?Guide says after skyhold construction. What does that mean do the garden, courtyard, and tower quests?

I didn't get that quest until late in the game during my completionist playthrough. Be patient I'm sure it'll come up eventually. However it is one of the glitched quests, I haven't heard of it being glitched in the way that makes it so you can't acquire it but you never know.

It's the Elf Mage in the library, the one that organizes the place. You just have to talk to him several times to get him to tell you that he is missing coppies of Har In Hightown, that's the quest.

From what I remember I don't believe that NPC is at Skyhold from the beginning. I think he appears in Skyhold at some point after you've already been living in the place. Maybe he just hasn't been recruited yet?

Its just a fetch quest, nothing really special. You talk to the mage and he says something about the library having had 52 copies of Hard in Hardtown, and 48 of them are missing. Then while you're wandering around Skyhold you'll find books laying all over the place. Collect the full amount and you get a bump in influence.

I didn't know this was a quest either. I gave up talking to most of the NPCs in the library after my first couple visits to Skyhold. Are there more skyhold quests? I've seen the quiz guy (can't find him now after talking to him once), and Sutherland with his war table missions, are there any others?

Yes, you get various war table quests from NPCs around skyhold. The tranquil girl by the creature research table gives you a quest; dagna gives you one; the women in the garden area gives you one...

YES! I figured out where the Mage in the library is from. He's from the inquisition perks. The first time you click on him he says sister Leliana hired him to sort the books. I'm not positive which perk as I saved up my points and spent 6 at once. But as I spent most of them in secrets, and his comment, I think it's fair to say it's from a secrets perk. Now I know, I'm so relieved I've been running all over the place to find out what triggered his appearance. Just hope it helps some one else.

Once you have him, you also need to click to talk to him several times to get him to give the quest. Once done, it bugs out and you can still pick up copies of the book for the rest of the game. Not worth it.

I would beg to disagree, as I've got the quest (currently at a frustrating 47/48 books, can't find that last one), and have yet to put any points in secrets. I AM rather obsessive about talking to everyone after every major event.  What I noticed is that he was not there prior to "Here Lies the Abyss", and afterwards, he was.  I sided with (and allied with) the Templars, so he was not there prior to that. It seems if you go Templar, he shows up right after Adamant Fortress.
