My husband was curious as to how the night with Cullen played out, so I loaded up the save and played it for him. We then played Youtube videos and watched the other romance option nights. Needless to say we both were disappointed in how the Cullen romance night played out.
Why? Well, compared to the others it is, not coming off as romantic. More along the lines of the old romance nights in previous games. Not exact of course, but, still it felt a bit cold and empty.
The fact the female Inquisitor is sitting the edge of the bed completely clothed with a naked Cullen behind her, made it feel like a one night stand. Then Cullen wakes up and The Inquisitor reacts to this like, “Oh crap, I should have dressed faster.” They try to pull the romance in by giving your Inquisitor to have the option of telling Cullen, “You love him.” However this does not save it nor does it pull back in the romance, it felt flat. Well, OK, sweet, but flat.
So what was I expecting? What was my husband? We both had different tastes, but, we agreed something else should have played out.
We both agreed prehaps what the developers should have done was: your female Inquisitor and Cullen be nude with a sheet covering them. Both sleeping and your female Inquisitor gets woken up to Cullen’s tossing and muttering. You both cuddle while the dialogue plays out. They tell each other “I love you,” kiss, and then your female Inquisitor rolls out of bed to get dressed and start the day’s work.
I just like to know why I am always choosing a romance option that ends up having the least romantic and passionate night out of all the romance options? I guess I have bad luck, or maybe crappy judgment, LOL!
Another thing is, after this night with him, I wish a new quest popped up, "A gift for Cullen." You go to the War Table for a speical mission, or perhaps just purchase a new schematic in Val to make Cullen a new sword. Go to Cullen and a cut scene plays out. From then on Cullen equips the sword you made him and at some point may comment about the sword.
Going even further how about going into your Skyhold quarters to find on your desk love letters from Cullen (which of course you can read) and at some point perhaps a vase of flowers with a note attached from Cullen (which you can also read).
The point is while its all well and good to have a romance, between the romance cut-scenes there should be little things for your character from your romance. This way the romance feels like it has more, well romance and substance.
Anyways, I will say the other romance nights I watched felt romantic. I just wished the Cullen night gave that same feel.
Anyone else (slightly) disappointed in this or any other romance night?
