I really wanna be a range fighter as my first playthrough however I don't know which one I should be.
Mage I cover alot of weaknesses , however if my build doesn't handle enemies who are immune to my spells then I'll be the useless one in my party.
Archer's deal alot of damage , and alot of buffs to make their attacks deal the top percentage of damage (Blindside) they don't cover weaknesses very well but who needs weakness abuse when you have critical abuse.
Last thing is...if I pick mage then I get Carver but if I pick archer I get Bethany. I find Carver alot more interesting then Bethany but I find being an Archer alot more interesting too.
Range fighter , Mage or Archer?

First you shouldn't worry too much with the weaknesses of your character since your companion can offset them.
You don't have to worry about your preference for Bettany or Carver neither since they can be easily replaced by other companions later in the game.
A healer hawke is a better improvement to Anders than Archer hawke would be to Varric and even Sebastian.
Story wise Varric is also more reliable than Anders (spoiler: you can lose Anders before the end but not Varric).
I still think a nuker mage hawke is a better improvement to Merril than archer hawke would be to Varric.
Conclusion: If you want less difficulty chose a mage hawke and use Varric as an archer.
If you use a second mage I would recommend Merril rather than Anders. A healer / bloodmage is more superior to anders than a force mage / blood mage is superior to merril. But of course it then depends of the specialties you prefer for your mage hawke: nuker hawke would keep anders and not merril, the opposite if you choose a healer hawke.
