No it isn't offensive term.
I don't get offended neither do my friends around.

You can make your character look Asian.. I don't understand.

Kaidan Alenko, anyone?
I always though Kaidan was Latino. Or at least one of non-race (i.e. the races all being fused into one, similar to Anderson if i'm not mistaken)

Technically it is an offensive term. Oriental means backwards but many people say oriental because they are on opposite sides of the world. WE dont mean it in a bad way but it is sometimes taken that way. I would personally not want to be called backwards

well, according to my super legitamate WIkipedia research (HAHAHA! ahhh...), "Oriental" pretty much just describes something from the far East (the "Orient"). so really, not exactly offensive at all.

And Quarians are Russians, or at least Yoguslavians.

American Heritage Boof of English says....
It is worth remembering, though, that Oriental is not an ethnic slur to be avoided in all situations. It is most objectionable in contemporary contexts and when used as a noun, as in the appointment of an Oriental to head the commission. In these cases Asian (or a more specific term such as Vietnamese, Korean, or Asian American, if appropriate) is the only acceptable term. But in certain historical contexts, or when its exotic connotations are integral to the topic, Oriental remains a useful term.

How about something less ethnocentric... say, "of Asian descent"?

His name suggests he's of Russian descent - Alenko. But he could also have Central Asian blood.

Kaiden is Japanese, Alenko is Australian, a pretty common pairing in the Pacific. Another accent flub a la Anderson of London.

From Oxford English Dictionary
1. Belonging to, or situated in, that part or region of the heavens in which the sun rises; of or in the east, eastern, easterly; spec. in Astrol. said of a heavenly body when in the eastern part of the sky, esp. of a planet when seen in the east before sunrise (or, by extension, when seen before sunrise in any part of the sky).
2. Belonging to or situated in the east of a country or place, or of the earth; eastern. Obs.
If it's offensive, it's because it's been misused or misunderstood.

Anderson looked like he covered both, to me, personally. Also, see Jacob Taylor. and you could definately make your character black.
Hoping that's just a troll post.

No actually it's a serious question, Jacob is the only Black person I've seen in a Mass Effect game.KainrycKarr wrote...
