So I've heard that if you mark Sebastian as romanced in the Keep, DAI automatically assumes you went the friendship route with him and Hawke mentions he returned to the Chantry.

You could flirt with Sebastian if you went the rival route with him. I'm upset that possibility isn't accounted for in the Keep or mentioned in DAI. :(

Really? That sucks, I won't be importing that save file now!

I rivalmanced Sebastian, and in my DAI import he went back to Starkhaven and was trying to become Prince, just like he said he would.

Great to know, Andraste! I can go on playing with my Robyn Hawke world story, then  :)

But how does that work? The keep doesn't let you decide whether you were his friend/rival.

He always takes over Starkhaven in DAI.

It makes sense. He may have planned to stay with the Chantry, but with it destroyed and the Reverend Mother killed, he decided to go to Starkhaven.

I finally reached Hawke in my savegame where she rivalmanced Sebastian and asked her about him.

She said he's a Chantry advisor in Starkhaven, that the throne is still in contention and he's keeping the peace... even though I had received a war table mission from PRINCE Sebastian claiming he now rules Starkhaven and wants to ally with the Inquisition.

If BioWare needed to retcon one side of the story, it should have been the friendship side. It makes more sense for him to give up his vows because Elthina was murdered and return to Starkhaven regardless, than it does for him to suddenly return to the Chantry after Elthina is murdered and Hawke has been encouraging him to retake Starkhaven...

I agree, but I suppose you could argue that "he knows the Chantry needs him more than ever" or some-such.

I'm telling myself Hawke hasn't heard that he took the throne yet.  <_<
