Romance dialogue

Do I have to wait a certain amount of time to get more romance dialogue options? For instance, I've gotten three opportunities to flirt with Cullen: when he's training the troops in Haven, when I talk to him for the first time in Skyhold near where Cole is, and I get to ask him if he was with anyone (which was plain, non-cutscene dialogue, unlike the other two times).

I know in Origins you could just flirt whenever you wanted, and then after they look you a certain amount they tell you and blah blah blah. Then in DA2 you gotta take your sweet time and blah blah blah.

So here are my questions:

  • Does it take a super long time to get to the romance part? I mean, like, are they gonna finally tell you they like you right before the final battle, cuz I don't likes to wait. The only reason I'm even bothering to romance Cullen is to see if he talks about my Amell Warden and also to lessen my hatred for him.
  • Do I have to flirt whenever the option presents itself? I was beyond pissed when I'd romanced Fenris and then didn't get the cutscene because I didn't pick one flirt option earlier on in the game. It was one of the first, so I had to go back quite a few hours; basically right at the point where I first meet him.
  • Do they ever flirt with you? One thing I liked about Origins and DA2 is that other characters flirt with you. I hate how you have to keep flirting and they just smile in response or whatever. Annoy-iiiiiing.

1- if you already recruited Cole, that means you only have to do one more main quest to... spoiler... after that, the romance will develop. (if Cullen romance works like Josie)

2- No idea...

3- Until now, Josie never flirted with me on her own accord. Either it didn't happen YET, or we are the ones who must flirt.

Nah, but I've heard how Josephine talks to the Inquisitor. You can tell she cares about him/her. It's cute.

That is true. Her romance is cute :P  (although I think there are too few scenes   It should have more)

:o

Good point! I totally forgot how both previous titles had brothels and this one don't!

But then again, what would people think about the Inquisitor walking in a brothel? Scandalous! Orlesian nobility would have a field day!

1) It took me a long time to get around to the meat of the Cullen Romance, but that was because I was obsessively doing all the sidequests before advancing the story. But no, you won't be waiting till the final battle. Quite a bit of content before that. Sounds like you aren't far off.

2) I've heard that flirt lines are important for advisor romances, since they don't really gain/lose approval like companions. However, there are those who have said they only flirted a little, and they still had the opportunity to commit to the romance.

3) I've had some flirty responses to my flirts. Also, some of the character dialogue changed to reflect romantic involvement. But as Cantcomeupwithname said, I didn't notice anyone being (initially) that proactive or aggressive about it. Well, except for me.

Not a bad thing. After Morrigan wouldn't let me into her tent anymore I went to Denerim and had a threeway with Isabela and Zevran, bought a dwarven hooker afterwards. She never found out about it...but after seeing how much she cares now it feels wrong. Damn brothels

1,2. I've flirted with Josephine only once and romance opening scene was there. Same with Cassandra and Iron Bull. It was relatively fast, so no worries.

3. Dorian flirts with you if you flirted with him before and it's way more "flirty" than previous subtle Inquisitor heart dialogues with him.

Now I'm thinking of F!Hawke's flirt options for Sebastian. Oh the humanity, that **** was hysterically straight and to the point!

Hawke basically insinuates that she wants to get into his pants, and I loved Sebastians response: "I have to go pray now..." XD

David Gaider has pretty much outright said that the player character will always have to initiate flirting and romance. Even if you get hit on by the character later - you will have had to initiate some kind of romantic dialogue for them to do that.

1. That depends on what you consider long (sidequests, exploration etc.). There is his personal quest you have to do which determines the progression of romance. For me the quest happened somewhere after I did Wicked Hearts and before Here Lies the Abyss. The 'scene' happened after the Abyss.

There is a video proof that he does talk about female mage warden, but its not a huge deal and its in one of those conversations without cutscenes. Still a nice touch. I think they did a very good job with Cullen, he has matured, a lot. But if you dislike him as a character just watch the video on youtube. I don't think its worth going through a 100+ hour game and suffering a romance just to hear one line.  :)

2. Not sure, I picked all flirts just to be safe. They all were rather subtle and conversations flowed very smoothly so my girl did not feel like a starved stalker, which I'm really thankful for.

3. From what I heard all companion proactivity was taken away because of DA2 complaints about characters hitting on poor unsuspecting players, so here is where Bioware strikes back. I preferred the DAO/DA2 approach but oh well.

Gah, I LOVE Carver. Best baby brother ever.

I don't know how anyone can romance Sebastian. He is just so... so....ugh. And Hawke is awesome there. Shame Inquisition lacks such pearls.

Oh my gosh, that's hilarious. "Yes, love... rein it in." Seriously, F!Hawke that romances Sebastian is so horny. Gotta love that irony. Stupid chaste marriages. >.<

Does anyone know the number of romance scenes for each character, without giving spoilers (NOT including the dance scenes or when you ask for a kiss)? I just wanna know, especially for Solas, since he has so few. I only know that Cullen has four, IIRC.
