If you haven't watched the quick look on Giantbomb and don't want anything spoiled, then avoid reading anymore.

Ok I've watched the quick look video half a dozen times already, and it got me thinking about the party composition the player had, which was: His mage, Alistair, Walter(TowerGuard), and some unnamed soldier.

I was curious as to how the party would change at this point in the story if you had picked a different origin? For example, we know if you play the human noble origin you have a chance to pick up Rabbit(Dog) as a party member early.

So when you get to the "lighting the beacon" portion of the game your party would consist of: Your PC, Alistair, Walter, and the dog would replace the unnamed soldier I assume.

Now what if your pc character was a warrior or rogue? Would the blonde soldier's class change to a mage to make up for the fact that you don't have a healer in your party?  Or would you be forced to slug it out with health potions?

Anyone have some insight of the different options of there are any, or I could sit here and continue speculating alone.Image IPB

Aye, Probably the latter.
I just don't see the game compensating for your choice of class.
You would have to rely on the skills, and items your equipped with I reckon.
But you would have ample time to stock up on all the healing goodies your bags could handle before hand.

Walter and the Tower Guard met them there, before that it was just the PC and Alistair, so wouldn't it have been those 4 + Dog or replace Alistair with the dog? From that video it seemed like Walter + Tower Guard were just temporary group members.

I think that was the producer walkthrough, he has Alistar and the no name soldier with him (human noble warrior) and after he recruits Walter the voice over says something along the lines of "This new recruit is just a tower guard, I don't think he's going to make it"

They never show how the soldier is recruited though, it could be a player choice or maybe the result of questing around camp during the day, but it doesn't look like it's automatically balanced for your class choice.

Well if you choose the human noble origin you would have potentially have both dog and Alistair. I don't think you would have to choose between the dog or Alistair for the beacon area, and that the second tower guard is there just to make sure you had a full party for the tower run. Yeah, I figured they, (the guards) were only temporary party members just curious as to the different possibities depending on your choosen origin.

And Arttis, the gameplay you saw of four warriors, was that the old demo footage of the tower where you had the pc, Alistair, Daveth, and Walter?  I just figured that was old footage, and the party shown there was just for demostration not necessarily the only combination of party members you could have at that point in the game.

If it's not the old demo video of the beacon lighting sequence do you know where I could see the footage? I'm always on the lookout for gameplay videos I've haven't seen. Image IPB

I agree with RiianTheBrute. If you don't have a mage, sorry, no healing spells for you. At least that's what I think, however, surviving through a battle without a healer is a littler funner (if you like tough fights) then with one because it's more challenging. Probably gonna die a few times, man I can't wait.

Well, if you play as a mage that doesn't necessarily means you are a healer, so I doubt it you get a mage in your party when you are a warrior/rogue to compensate for healing spells.

Yeah, exactly. Mages aren't always healers and the video showed that healing potions and poultices play a large role in the game. I don't think a healer is a must.

I'd doubt is any class was a "must" in the game.

That said, I have no doubt having a rogue with lockpick and trap disarming skills would be VERY handy, as would a mage with healing spells.

But absolutely needing any specific class to complete the game seems unlikly.

Absolutely. What I meant was that you could likely go without a dedicated healer without a significant increase in difficulty, due to potions (which are in a shared inventory, remember). If anything, I think the hardest class to do without would be a warrior.

I'm thinking the same thing. If you don't have a warrior in your party to soak up the damage you'll probably have a hard job defeating those pesky darkspawn. Maybe that's why you get two warriors before you go inside the tower?

As far as I understand it, there is a mage available for the "Tower of Ishal" - quest,  just like the other two classes I presume, it probably just depends on your character's choice who you are going to take with you, besides Alistair.
