In absence of general feedback thread ;

I completed Inquisition after a (long) week in around 80 hours in a completionist frenzy as well as a need to know the main storyline. Now, I think giving feedback is important, without trying to tell you what you guys should have done or not, simply putting relevant data in there.

-------

Background

I have a tendency of playing Normal Mode, sweeping any achievements, making a playtrough of each race/origin, and exploring all outcomes with little care for combats, but  with great interest in equipment efficiency and skill optimization.

TECHNICAL

My Rig

Windows 8.1 (64 bit)

Intel Core i7-4770S CPU @ 3.10Ghz

8GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (192-bit)

I was able to run the game in Ultra settings everywhere without encountering notable freezing or anything worth noting save for the infamous graphic card crash, that seemed to happen less (or I'm playing less now that I'm on a reroll) after a couple of days.

Notable Bugs

None safe for the one listed above. Either I'm blessed or pretty blind. I found perhaps two or three missing textures in the whole game, no voice swapping for my Hawke, no characters falling from the sky or else. I can't remember anything worth reporting.

Also, my Dragon Age Keep import was flawless, something worth noting since I had the infamous trouble with my DA profile since the start.

GAMEPLAY

Positive

• I liked the "searching loot" system, less obvious than the old highlight objects. You actually search stuff this time.

Combats are dynamic, and for someone whose favorite class has always been rogue, I found myself greatly enjoying mage. It's a well balanced mix of DA2 action fight and Origins' strategy side.

IA is far from dumb and impressed me in more than one instance ; Dorian flawlessly using a wall of fire on a wall, burning an impressive amount of lined up archers ; Cassandra taunting a though mob as he was about to reaching my frail mage... It encouraged me to stop micro-managing my party members, an habit I developed with Origins.

Negative

• Tactical Camera seemed to freeze from time to time and my commands were unable to respond, living me stuck ; the game would either resume itself, or I had to crash it in order to play again.

• The "Hold position" is especially frustrating... In a particular puzzle, I had to switch from companions to companions and I came close to losing my mind, watching them moving back and forth.

Other

I missed the auto-loot from DA2 ; again, I'm told it's a PC occurrence. I might try to replay with a controller to see for myself.

CHARACTER CREATOR

Positive

Awesome customization. Wide range of choices, and I'm finally able to shape faces right without putting much effort into it. You can truly flesh out your inquisitor.

• Amazing scars (and the ability of placing it), glorious vallaslin, it is not the most complete CC I tested, but it's a truly good

Negative

Lightening lies. My first inquisitor was pretty cute, but ended up with so much makeup I grew uncomfortable watching her. It's a bit annoying.

• Hair options are few and a bit disappointing.

• Not being able to mix horns and hair for Qunari made BF sad. -10 approval for you, BioWare.

Other

Be able to edit or even retrieve faces could be great ; again, my inquisitor ended up with hair in her ears, and I just couldn't unsee it. I tried to recreate her because I like what I've done with her, but I was unlucky so far. Is it possible to implant a Black Emporium Mirror/Barber, or game engine is preventing it ?

• Why not putting a color wheel for hair as well ?

GAME EXPERIENCE

Positive

The lore is amazing. can see the huge work done with weaving all the lore from previous games and putting it together. I spent a certain amount of time reading my codex, and I wasn't disappointed ; it brings something more to game experience, and it sure makes you think. I don't wish to spoil anything, but in many occasions I reacted with a "I see what you did there ! Well, I think I do. Do I ?"

NPCs Interaction is once again great and one of the best trademarks of BioWare. Cutscenes talk and simple banters are well balanced, even If I seemed to have few of the latter.

Companions are interesting, various, and not replacing old ones. You can love them, you can dislike them, but no one is boring. (Ok, maybe Blackwall is a bit stern.)

Negative

Skyhold Customization seems purely cosmetic. I was sure that over time, holes in roofs and walls would be fixed, but it wasn't the case. Also, I expected it to matter, just like Normandy shields or Amaranthine walls mattered during the long run.

Last mission can be perceived as anticlimatic, even if after 80 hours, I was in a hurry of finishing and was a bit relieved.

• Past game aknowledgment (Morrigan, Leliana, Alistair' reactions to each other) were a let-down, but I guess ramifications can be huge so I understand. Or I missed things...

Others

• I always wondered why the option of subtiles for ambiant dialogues without having them in cutscenes never existed ? I love taking screenshots, but texts are bothering me.

• You do lost a bit if you don't play as a human, but this is explained in term of game production, and forgiven with the ability of playing a Dalish Mage in my opinion. (Solas romance IS interesting and relevant plot-wise, as well as damn good).

• Storage. Yes, everytime.

SIDE-NOTES

Customer's Lament

I had the worst time sorting out retailing options ; the Inquisitor version was available in my country without the game (!), and I had to ship said game in Deluxe Edition from US, with extra-cost, since I wanted a physical edition because DDE upgrade wasn't confirmed (and still not there). My Inquisitor edition ended up pretty messed up, and I'm still wondering whether or not I should send it back, since I have no garanty of having a new one. I voiced my concern and asked for any updates on this forum and on EA Hub without any answers. So, yeah, as a PC European gamer, I felt pretty left out. Since I bought the optimal Edition of DA games everytime, and had trouble because of my location everytime, I feel the need to voice this. Now, It's my choice to be borderline obsessed and wanting the best of my favorite game, but sometimes it's like you just don't want my money. ^^

TL;DR : This is an awesome game, my best this year so far, and aside from minors annoyances and things that can be fixed or ignored, it is great.

(On a personal, cheesy note ; thanks you. You are awesome.)
