That's my rant, needed a place to put it.

There are MANY more appropriate places than here. Try harder.

I don't always notice the music while walking around but almost always while I fight. I even turned it up because the soundtrack really is excellent.

Music did play for me in Val Royeux, and I did not have issues with it. I have had moments where it's just quiet besides ambient sounds- no music. Usually notice it in the hinterlands.

Yikes. Thanks. There is rarely any combat music in the game for many of us with the banter issue. And Val Royeux is nothing but that ambient NPC chatter effect found in settlements.

Meanwhile there is a dragon who has infinite babies at it's command, and killing said dragon takes too much of my gosh darn time

I thought that was a good thing, i loved all my dragon fights, it's one of the best parts of the entire gameplay and feels way more dynamic then in skyrim.

Also: i love party banter, it makes the game feel more alive and fleshes out the companions more. Story is more important then some dumb extra armors or added face customization, i hope they never take advice from you.

We’ve heard a number of reports from users concerned about party banter not firing in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Please also note that banter does not recycle, so you will only hear a set of lines once. The rate at which it occurs is also random, which is why sometimes you will encounter it more frequently, and sometimes less so.

I have to totally disagree with this statement. I have spent 112 hours in my first playthrough and it has gotten to the point where if solas talks to varric about the main villain surviving the conclave I mount up to avoid hearing it again. It has been said at least 20 times while exploring the world. Sometimes it occurs not even 2 mins apart from each other.

Just finished a 63 hour playthrough, heard about 10 banters in that time. 1 in the Hinterlands, 2 in the Exalted Plains, 5 or 6 in Emprise du Lion (this was all in the course of an hour or two, which was so surprising that I sat up and took notice), and one or two elsewhere that I don't think were scripted as part of a questline. Didn't occur to me that this might be unusual till I finished the playthrough and came back to the forums - thought I just had really bad luck with triggering banter. I still might, I suppose, but an average of one banter per 6 hours of play seems awfully low. I'm starting a new game now, so we'll see if things change. I hope they do - those Hinterlands fetch quests are incredibly frustrating in total silence.

I am pretty sad that I only got one Iron Bull/Dorian banter. Apparently they're

Spoiler
but that only happens if the banter triggers. I did get Blackwall/Sera banter that
Spoiler
. Makes me wonder what other parts of the world react to banter, and what I'm missing out on.

76 hours and counting, and I'd probably be at 10-11 max by now if it weren't for the occasionally-seems-to-work-shockingly-well fast-travel + mount + dismount / audio settings changing / clearing completed quests + journal + codex discoveries hard-working fans in my thread have devised. For some though even that doesn't help fire any off.

Either way, combat music, Val Royeaux music, etc.... never hear it. Boss battles are generally silent affairs, even. I let Mark Darrah in on that via twitter just now.

I just wanted to add my experience to the pile. I played 100+ hours now and party banter triggered 10-15 times AT MOST. Literally hours and hours of complete silence. Also lack of music in many areas. For example today I was in the Hissing Wastes for several hours - no banter, no music whatsoever. Just awkward silence and the sound of my steps.

//edit: I forgot to add that I literally *never* use any mount

I've played about 90 hours now, and experienced hardly any banter, and I think I'm also missing out on music similar to others above.  Absolutely loving the game despite this, but I would like the banter!

I should add one piece of banter between Dorian and Varric, regarding odds on the inquisitor succeeding, keeps repeating over and over again!  Given the announcement says banter should not recycle there is clearly something wrong there.,

5 hours in to a new game so probably 3 hours time spent in the hinterlands with the default group, no other characters ,no other areas unlocked. 6 conversations at least. Either people like me are getting these things too fast, which is so unlikely I shouldn't have even mentioned it or this is a legit problem for others. So let's not start insinuating that people are complaining about nothing again, this isn't another thread about hair colour.

EDIT: I didn't know there was combat music till I read these posts either so there you go.

This is interesting because I also make heavy use of manual saves (in fear of game breaking bugs) and I am experiencing the party banter and music issues.

I only use manual saves, too...

But I really don't want to have to rely on autosaves to fix this. Can anyone else back this up?

The "party- banter´s" works just fine for me. The only problem I have, which is sound related, is when there´s too much going on at the same time, my sound (dialogues/music) just shuts down. Solved this by going to options-->sound-->and switching from "headphones" to "livingroom" and then back to "headphones" again. The sound is back to normal after doing so.

Im not sure if this helping but I just want to share...

Right at the beginning. Heaven City, the Female Barde in the Tavern (Her Voice resemble from the Fanmade Music in Skyrim). She would play 21 Songs. I let my Chars stay in front of her. After 8/21 Songs she stopped playing and never gone back to play. She just do not touch her Instrument anymore

Perhaps it is my OS that is making the Script buged? I use Windows 7 64bit German. OnBoard Soundchip

I made a video with my save, and Teagle's save showcasing the fact that he has Val Royeaux and Skyhold music and I do not. I'll make other videos tonight to document my lack of banter, combat music, combat... grunts, zone music, etc.

Until I started reading about this I hadn't even twigged how silent my game had been. Seeing the clips of how Val Royeaux should sound makes mine seem flat in comparison. I get music start with the dragon fight in the hinterlands regularly, which then doesn't stop till I fast travel somewhere, but that's about it for ambient music. I've probably had less than 20 banters, all of which happened in the first few hours, often the stuff tied to the choices from the Keep (like Sebastian taking Kirkwall).

What's intriguing is the seeming lack of anything in common between the people who have this problem, as it seems the saves themselves aren't the problem, nor the platform. Are they testing on retail copies I wonder or their own in house code (admittedly I know nothing about QA testing so I'm probably talking rubbish here).

Between this and the missing mosaic pieces I'm putting my playthrough on hold till we get some definitive answer, or hopefully a patch

Then WHY have I gotten the exact same banter 3 times in a row (and it was one I had heard previously too ... )?  These weren't saves and go back either that happened to trigger the same one.  This happened to be a while standing idle and get it .. and again .. and then in another zone again.  This when I KNOW there are banters I haven't gotten yet (because I'm trying to get them to trigger still!!!)

I made a video of my experience. It lasts 1 hour. It can be found here: http://youtu.be/UlL1nyv6d3c

Like I say in the description, I'd be grateful if someone without the banter bug or maybe even a dev could take a look and tell us if this is working as intended. Not to say my video is representative of everyone having an issue, but I am curious as I think it was stated banter should fire every 10 minutes or so until exhausted for that party combination and that point in the plot.

This is a 2nd playthrough. First time on the Sword Coast, first time with Cole in party, first time with Bull in party (recruited him straight away), right after Skyhold. Ran around 5 or 6 areas, fought some, avoided some fights, looted a bit, then not, stood idle, eventually fast traveled. Excruciatingly boring to watch I'm sure as I mostly run around in big circles.

More details found in the video's description. But in short: ambient music seems fine, companions comment on environment, banter triggered at 44 minutes after fast travel to camp, then again at 53 minutes after fast travel.

Then why do Dorian and Varric keep placing bets on my success?? There are banters I've gotten more than once on play throughs where I know I've heard them before (And where my party hasn't wiped between the last save and hearing that banter).

While all the focus is on the missing banter, have you guys checked as to why the background music also will not play? The game is so quiet at the moment, no one talking and no background music.

90+ hours. I rarely use mounts, and switch maps often (I'm only missing Hissing Wastes). Change up party members every now and then.

Not only do I rarely hear banter, but then they do, they're repeating the same things. I've heard the convo between Cass and Varric about Kirkwall so many times. Getting tired of Dorian and Sera talking about magic being dangerous, too.

I'll be really disappointed if I complete my first playthrough without getting to hear all of the party banter.

My companion quests have begun to roll in, and it's quite disorienting.

In the previous games, my companions have become endearing to me because I have understood their personalities.

In DA:I, these companion quest cut scenes feel off, because they treat my Inquisitor like they're really good friends. I don't feel that camaraderie. With so little party banter than usual, I don't have a good grasp of everyone's personalities and nuances.

If the devs can't reproduce this issue, can they post the systems they are testing on with the specs? Is there somewhere where we can submit our command prompt systeminfo? (I know that won't help the console folks...)

I mean, my point is, what do they need to know for troubleshooting purposes?

I had the issue of very little party banter (70 hours play so far), and I discovered that I turned the music and sfx volume to 80% so I can hear the voice more clearly. I also experienced sound cut out while in combat. I've since changed volume back to 100% for all settings, and noticed that there are more party banter and no more sound cut out. Maybe I'm imagining things but there may be a bug with the volume setting.

I've had 5 different sets of banters in Crestwood since I made that change. Sera to Solas, Sera to Cassandra, Cassandra to Solas, etc. Also, a new banter after every rift destruction unlike before where I didn't hear anything.
