Banter lines are supposed to be done once and never repeated? Funny. Solas and Cassandra have had the exact same conversation about 4 times in my playthrough. So has Varic and Solas...

I noted you mentioned you are a software engineer in another post. As a software engineer, you will know that these "cannot replicate" bugs are actually quite common - often systems are designed to handle a certain path through them, which users can blow sky high. I headed up a QA team over 10 years ago, and I can't remember how many times offshore developers told me that an issue was not reproducable on their end (requiring screen sharing etc to convince them) . Which is why colocation of testing and development teams is actually a critical success factor in large scale deployments.
Similarly, I'm not sure whether BW office test systems fully replicate the varied situations we face in the real world. Therefore, it may be taking them a lot longer than expected to nail this down. What gives me hope is that at least we have gotten their attention and they are trying.
And it's not a matter of expectations - couple of days ago I played with one of my characters who is just 8 hours in, JUST unlocked sword coast, and I brought Viv, Sera and Blackwell, whom I have NEVER travelled before. Wandered around the sword coast for a little over an hour and in that time, no banter at all. Given people who don't have the bug have stated that they get banter every 5-30 minutes, this is NOT expected behavior.
Of course, BW has kept mum about what the expected behavior / benchmark should be, so we are just going by what other players tell us.
BTW, OP was not by Allan. Just want to keep confusion to a minimum RE Bioware employees!
I wasn't being condescending. I take umbrage however when people 'doubt my intelligence' after I point out that the issue may be a little bit more complex than people otherwise believe. Posts like 'simple fix, do x' when they're written by people that frankly have no idea how complex software engineering issues are. It's as asinine as if I tried to tell NASA how to build a space shuttle when I'm clearly not qualified.
I know 'cannot reproduce' bugs are quite common, I also know that attempting to track those issues down is nigh looking for a needle in a haystack. I remember one time in a game that I was helping to develop there was a crash that happened upon exit of the program and we couldn't find the issue for weeks until we discovered that it was an issue with a class handler object that was being typecasted as something else and deleted as that typecasted object causing a memory leak.
All I asked for initially was for calm and people to settle down, and the bug they were expecting wasn't actually the issue, but was something else that they haven't discovered. People then took issue and doubted my intelligence. I do not apologise for defending myself.

Locking story based content behind RNG is probably even worse than random **** of Destiny. I hope they redesign it in upcoming patches and made it more predictable.

That's fine, if only because I'll get to question your intelligence as well.
That's because you're looking at it in a one dimensional setting. You think party banter is the issue where it could be any number of issues in conjunction or in isolation with each other. Allan mentioned that they looked at the party banter mechanism
'We have conducted rigorous initial tests, all of which have shown that the system is working as intended. We ran tests over the course of several hours, and compared the captured footage of the playthrough with what the banter the game had recorded as having happened. In all instances, our game records matched the recorded play. The banter also occurred as frequently as intended.'
A bit late now I suppose, but before you get ready to 'question my intelligence' (which incidentally, makes you sound like an absolute *******), maybe you should actually re-read what Alan took the time to type up. The bug is something they can not reproduce, so providing that there is a bug (and not something that is occuring that Allan also pointed out in his post), there's another issue going on which is going to require a lot more digging. It could possibly be something that isn't even Bioware's fault, such as not up to date drivers, or driver conflicts, etc, etc.
IT IS STILL A BUG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ask Bioware if it is INTENDED for people to only have 10 banters for over 80 hours played.
You are seriously a really FN irritating person.
There is a bug somewhere that prevents people from either hearing the banter or it doesn't trigger. If they cannot reproduce it, it does not mean it doesn't exist.
How would YOU explain that some people have 4 banters per hour ending up with over 300 total banters during an 80 hour playthrough. Then another person gets 10 for the FULL 80 hours.
It is a statistical IMPROBABILITY....
People have tested with all kinds of party members, running around the world NOT using mounts, standing still, doing combat etc etc.
Same thing goes for the lack of music.
I mean there is EVIDENCE FOR THIS FFS!!!!!
Videos of people playing where there is never any music, never any banter. That is NOT INTENDED.
That their systems say that the banter "triggers", means NOTHING if it actually is not PRODUCING ANY BANTER ANYONE CAN HEAR.
There IS a bug, I bet my LIFE on it. Whether it is audio not going through and the banter is actually happening we just can't hear it (still a BUG).
No one in their right mind including Bioware can say that they INTEND for "some" people to get a normal game with 3 full hours of RECORDED banter happening and others not getting anything or just a few.
That would mean no banter is ever "triggered" on a LOT of peoples systems. If it IS triggered, we do not HEAR it.
What's next, blame our computers, and consoles?
This has become a farce. They have limited test environment. Anyone with a modicum of technical expertise KNOW that an in-house testing is limited compared to REAL world testing.
We have millions of consoles and PC's out here and we DO have an issue. They simply cannot find it.
Is it really THAT hard to realize that if the banter "triggers", but it is actually not playing/audible in the game, something is wrong. Then look at another area of the game. Such as audio engine etc etc. No matter what, it IS a bug and it is related to music/combat music/banter.

Please also note that banter does not recycle
If this is so why have i heard Varric and Solas talk about how the wardens have had a thousand years to figure out how to kill corypheus and havent figured it out, like 500 times now?

Try this supposed fix guys its a new one: http://www.reddit.co..._of_the_banter/
May or may note work
Confirmed
it got me the music in VR which is nice. First time i heard it since the initial cut-scene many many hours ago.
It also got me the ear killing music in sky hold which is not so nice. Especially since they said during a stream once that this constant drum beat was not going to be a thing in the actual game.
Now that I have seen it for myself in a quantifiable way, I want a straight forward answer from the Devs on the nature of the bug and if they are planning to fix it or not.

No you have been a complete A-hole. I question the intelligence of anyone that goes against evidence.
No one here has said "just fix it, it is easy". We have informed them of a problem, a BUG/Issue. WE took UMBRAGE when they posted the OP about "all is well and working on our end", making it sound like we are lying or just idiots that do not know what we are talking about.
We do not need a doctorate in computer sciences or software engineering to know that if we hear no music and no banter in a game that SUPPOSE to have music and banter that something is wrong.
Then here you come, and talk as though we are idiots just like OP and say there might not be a bug and the game is working as intended. That is just plain stupid and insulting and yes brings into question your intelligence.
There is ample evidence and an order of magnitude of people reporting lack of music and banter. That is not intended in this game. They HAVE banter, 3 full hours recorded, they have music.
So why isn't it playing. That is the very definition of something not working as intended, that means a "bug", which is a colloquial term btw.
You've been talking as if there is no bug and we are just more or less imagining things and that because THEY say they cannot reproduce the problem/bug that is essentially doesn't exist.
You're not helping anyone, instead you are here rubbing it in and agitating people. You have nothing to contribute other than frankly idiotic and condescending posts.
If Bioware has the intention for people playing their game to only get 10 banters during a whole playthrough then YES there is no bug. Yet then you realize that there is STILL a bug but in reverse where people get 300+ banters, hence that would mean it goes against their intention.
Clearly something is NOT working as intended, even if they cannot reproduce it and in THEIR tests it shows banter is working. It is still a bug when there is ample evidence people are not getting it. PERIOD!
It is rudimentary knowledge that in-house testing is limited compared to real world. If you test an Operating system/program on let's say 10-20 machines in-house, they can work perfectly fine and NOT encounter any bug that actually exist.
But do the same in real world with 1 million PC's and a bug can be prevalent. Even just 5% having an issue is still 50,000 people. SIGNIFICANT number.
If you have nothing to contribute or wanting to discuss this VERY REAL issue, then feel free to troll another thread.

I tried this fix and made a 12 minute video
It did, in fact work for me! I even teleported around a few times without using the war table and the music was still working. The bard is still suspect though. After returning to Skyhold, hearing the war drums, I went to the tavern to see if she had been affected. She wasn't holding her instrument, her music was playing, but she was not singing. I walked out, waited for the war drums to start again, and returned. This time, she was singing, instrument in hand. I left again, came back, and she was singing again, but this time, without her instrument.
I am very happy to have music in Val Royeaux.
However, I am still concerned about the guy that said he tested the code and a banter triggered but never fired. Still waiting, and considering actually going... (shudders) Christmas shopping.

I'm playing on PS4, currently in Act 2 after 20 hours played, and I could count the number of times my party has spoken to each other on one hand. I've tried resetting the audio settings and doing the fast travel / mount / dismount / rest cycle, but haven't noticed any improvement.
I think I'm going to just take a break until this issue and the bug that causes the Inquisitor's voice to change are resolved.

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to let the potentially-uninformed know that the OP in my thread on this matter now has a host of possible workarounds that might help trigger banter. Many hours have been spent by intrepid forumites (and in the case of the most recent addition, at least one excellent redditor) to help get your files back on track at least briefly so that you can enjoy the game in spite of this ugly bug.

Tried that reddit bug fix on PS4 (by disabling internet connection in console settings + the War Table thing) - fixed many issues. Banter appears to be back to normal.
No combat music, but I think I've identified what precisely is wrong with the environmental music (after the fix) - it doesn't loop. It appears to trigger correctly and plays, but if something happens to stop it - i.e. it reaches the end of the little snippet or you go into the pause/character screen, it doesn't play again.
This is very odd, but it makes me think this is a bug with the audio system in general, rather than the banter system.

Update: environmental music appears to be looping correctly in Emprise Du Lion - previous tests were in VR/Hissing Wastes. Going into pause screen still appears to cut music off though (may just lower the volume massively; my hearing isn't great). Going up to Suledin Keep appears to trigger music again.

Well if the party banter is only supposed to fire once I've got a definite bug.
I've heard the "Betting on the inquisitor" banter between Varric and Dorian about 15 times since yesterday morning. It's very disconcerting and it literally happens like every five minutes.

Got combat music upon triggering the boss in Emprise Du Lion, and music appears to trigger periodically when exploring if you use the skyhold fix. Banter seems to be working okay SFAICT. Weird that there'd be an audio bug related to the War Table and being online, but if this is an overarching issue with the engine then it could be a lot of issues tangled up in each other.
To the devs: thanks for your efforts to identify this bug, and I hope I'm helping.

If the bug is really with the audio system, then possibly. Haven't checked this, but from memory bringing up the Home screen and going back doesn't seem to affect things on PS4.

Almost sounds like it's forcing me to talk to companions I don't like if I want to get banter. I've talked to the ones I have and I do get commentary from them. I have iron bull, dorian and cass with me now. Cass gives me the least as I haven't talked to her a lot because her banter is ususally kind of cold. Varric gives me a good amount when I talk to him. I have noticed in another game when I didn't bother to talk to them much that there wasn't much commentary. Kind of like if they didn't know you or feel comfortable with you they wouldn't say much. Downside is that's kind of a pain with so many companions to have to track them down all over skyhold and keep up conversations with them even if you don't like them just to get banter.

You need to make sure the game is unable to connect to the Internet - either by disabling your console's network connection or using Origin's offline mode.
