I tried out the reddit proposal with travelling through the war table. It fixed the music for me, at least most of the time. I get background music almost all of the times, combat music sometimes, war drums in skyhold and the music in Val R.
I am not sure whether it fixed the banter. I get more banter (had it twice while exploring the Emerald Graves for two hours), but the rate is still low compared to what others report. On top of that, one of the banter started midsentence, so something was cutting it off, although I was just standing in camp.
For the future, I will keep my journal and codex clean and try to fast-travel through the war table as much as possible. It fixes something at least.

I can hear the music and that's progress, but still no banter. I'm trying travelling between locations and changing the companions to see if something changes.

Just to check: Origin connection to the Keep is only required when you create a new game, right? The in-game text is pretty ambiguous, but I’d imagine they load the state once when creating and that’s it.

Only when you create your character. Not afterwards. I played almost the whole game offline, with no issues, so the keep is only necessary once.

i have read most of this thread(and the original.) i am currently on my 2nd playthrough and i am having the same issues i had on my first, only 1 case of Banter outside scripted main quest dialogue and i am about 11 hours in.
on my last playthrough of about 45 hours i only had 6 maybe 7 banters i almost never use Mounts i change up my party quite a lot how can i run out of banter if it almost never happens?lol anyway i read some cases of loading into a game and it being halfway into some group banter? that happened to me a couple times in my first playthrough.
I'm sure this is as frustrating for you Devs as it is for us who know what we are missing and i hope to hear soon you have found the problem and you are working on fixing both the Banter and other audio problems that many of us are having.

It´s weird I have music sometimes but only during the load screens, the music on Val Rouyeaux was always there but only during the load screen, the same with the drums on Skyhold, and in the other areas there is no music, sometimes you can hear like a very low sound but that can´t be the music I have the max audio settings, it´s weird.

Copy/pasting, apologies - I think I've spent about 39 of my 40hrs+ on my severely glitched save completely offline (PS4), and unfortunately the problem has still very, very much persisted. I did have to laugh, as I think the 2/5 times I've gotten music from Val Royeux, I had indeed fast-travelled there from some other location that wasn't Haven/Skyhold. Will double check! If nothing else, keeping the game offline definitely improves framerate jutter, and I haven't had too many glitches outside of the main sound/banter/combat banter issue.

The offline/travel from war table only doesn't work for me. Would be nice to have an update from Bioware.

I guess several thousand people are experiencing your "Random".
Sounds to me like the blame is being shifted to the path of least resistance, it will no doubt appear as fixed in future updates.
EDIT: Since the game crashes are also random,I hope you don't kick that to one side.
Good Luck ![]()

I think that my banter/music issue is caused by backing out of the war table and traveling to a zone from the world map. As long as I use the war table to go everywhere everything works fine.

I had a go with the Reddit fix as well and while it triggered Val Royeaux's music like a dream, it's done nothing else. Minimal banter, no battle cries, etc, plus the weird sound lag on a lot of random things like opening doors and jumping. Also, does anyone else get a strange lag on the character/inventory menus when you flick through the characters and it's takes ages for their models to load? Idk, I'm going all conspiracy theorist here because it feels like the general lagginess with some things is all connected, but then I guess textures/audio wouldn't be affected by the same bug. I'm mystified that Origins and DA2 work 10x more efficiently on my old 360 than DAI on my ps4 ![]()

The game is full of bugs, not all of them are necessarily related, but it makes sense that sound-related ones, such as music, battle cries, and possible sound lag are related. I get no rest sound on occasion, but I'd try to keep things like menu lag (I have this as well) in a different thread just so we can stay focused.

Try this supposed fix guys its a new one: http://www.reddit.co..._of_the_banter/
May or may note work
This brought party banter back for me. I didn't even know it was a "fix", I just noticed the game bugged out more when I had an internet connection. I unplugged the internet and voila! Music returned when roaming and suddenly Sera was talking smack about Cassandra.

Have you guys tried all of the audio modes in the options? (home theater, night, tv, headphones). I've had audio loss once during 120hr gameplay and after changing audio mode in the options it started working again, not sure what caused the loss of audio but i was at storm coast and just had established a new campsite when it happened. Also yes, sometimes audio does lag behind if i go in combat too fast after gating/traveling but it does catch up pretty quickly. For party banter i have no other problem but did Conal say that banter should not recycle?? because yes it does.

Things I've done:
- Updated my Realtek HD Audio driver audio driver (link).
- Unplugged my internet (and disabled wifi)
- Set the graphics to Medium during the Wrath of Heaven quest and audio to Night
- Mark things as read in inventory, journal (including collections and completed quests), and codex about every few minutes after looting and whatnot
- Accidentally went to war room in Haven and backed out
- Explored and completed all Haven quests (again religiously marking things complete)
- Set the graphics to Automatic and audio to Home Theater
- Fast traveled via war room to Hinterlands
- Waited an hour-ish at the first Hinterlands camp (never had been there before)
Results:
- 4:15 Cass & Varric
- 48:28 Varric & Cass
- 50:30 Cass & Solas
- 1:06:34 Varric & Solas
So aside from the first 45 minute wait, it may be fixed. I'm going to try playing with internet connected and report back.

93 hours into the game now...
While I did remember banter between my original companions Cassandra, Solas and Varric early in the game, since I got all the other companions after Haven, party banter has been so rare as to be almost completely inexistent...
1 quick exchange between Vivienne and Blackwall about her taking a blow in a fight, Sera making a mockery of Solas elven speech, and maybe a couple other I don't remember, that's about it over the course of 70+ hours of gameplay.
I completed over 90% of both exalted march and western approach with a party composed of Vivienne, Cole and Iron Bull (or Blackwall at times), and I never heard them talk to each other even though I did it all on foot and not on mount (and can't possible have exhausted dialog options since I never ever heard them talk to each other before aside from Blackwall and Vivienne once), all I heard was environmentally or quest triggered single line comments.
Also combat dialog, huh, is there such a thing ?

It seems to work for some people. To some extent. The internet thing doesn't seem to effect me at all, but marking quests/codex as read, and never walking away from the wartable seem to help a bit. My banter is still few and far between (once every hour and half or so), but it's a notable improvement over none at all. The music just randomly works or doesn't depending on it's own feelings...

I would love to know what people mean by this, sometimes sera will go "heads up, face down!" or something in game while fighting as well as other comments from others, but very rarely - it's a nice touch though if thats what people are talking about.

i have more than 160 hours logged on Origin with DAI. I learned via the forums that there's supposedly background music while exploring, as well as party banter.
Wait, there's supposed to be music while exploring? I just assumed it was a design choice not to have music while running around. I'm at over 100 hours now and I think I've only ever heard music during important quest cut scenes..
Also: When I press the button to bring up the potion/action radial menu (gamepad on PC) the audio gets messed up nearly every time. Most sound effects cut out completely and I have to bring the menu back up to fix it.

To be honest, I'm not sure if anyone really knows what the audio is supposed to be doing. The banter is obviously messed up for people, because it's been easy to compare one game where it is working and one where it is not, but regarding the music, I have yet to see a solid answer on how it's supposed to be working. For example, Val Royeaux music isn't playing for many people, but some people have suggested that the music might only be supposed to play at certain times, and so constant playing might actually be a glitch, and not the other way around. The same thing goes for zone music, because it seems messed up that music plays for 30 seconds or so and fades away, but there haven't been any official statements of "Hey, guys, THIS is what zone/combat audio should sound like." I, like many others, assume that it's supposed to be a constant loop of audio for zones, but it'd be nice if Bioware would confirm what normal audio should sound like to give a baseline for users.Wait, there's supposed to be music while exploring? I'm very glad that you're working on this issue and I hope you can pin something down to help us all out! Good luck and if you need us to send in proof of our games not firing banter or music, just keep asking for vids.
