Getting plenty of banter in the Exalted Plains.

Pity it's really ugly and meh looking compared to most other areas

Just curious since we're on audio and banter. Is there any ETA on a patch for the voice change bug. It's very immerion-breaking, not game-breaking but immersion breaking. I can't bring myself to continue my play through with my character's voice contradicting everything about the way I have her set up, all because I didn't want the default Hawke, and chose to customize her for continuity sake. I really LOVE this game, and would LOVE to play it, but as long as this bug persists I'm at a cold stop :(

I had hoped for tomorrow, but they never gave a ETA or said that they found a fix. I reckon this will either be fixed after Christmas or they will give up and ignore it. I think the no music bug has more chance on being fixed then the banter one.

I used to get some banters in a few of my playthroughs (I restarted my game 3 times for various problems) but now with my current playthrough the bug has returned. I haven't had a single banter in my newest game and I've gotten as far as completing the Templar/Mage quest. That is a lot of silence. I don't think starting the game again is an option for me right now and I will end up triggering the bug again. It's just completely random I can't pinpoint where it went wrong. Music is fine in Hinterlands, no music in VR and the Haven music automatically starts as the war table music if I enter the area with a message about one of the tasks being complete. (I'm not even sure what the Haven music is meant to be - when I first arrived, that music was different, now it's just the war table music or nothing)

There are 2 areas I remember getting banter before:

- Leaving the camp closest to the Redcliffe farms

- Leaving the Hinterlands cave where you do Solas's personal quest

I tried these areas with my newest playthrough and nothing... Are there any more I could test?

One thing seems to be certain though, the Reddit fix only seems to work from Skyhold. I might have to accept getting no banter until I get there.

I'm starting to think that my banter is firing, but just somehow not making it all the way through to the end of the process. When I'm wandering around in silence I get the little 'something's about to happen' whirr with no obvious corresponding reason - autosave, new area, ambient sound, npc chatter, functioning banter, w/e - about as frequently and randomly as I hear banter for a bit after a temporary fix. I hear nothing and the subtitles show nothing, but it seems plausible that it might be reacting to a banter trigger given that the save files bw are looking at seem as though they're behaving properly.

Also, when I do hear banter from a pair I've had out before but never heard from, it sometimes seems to be referring to an earlier conversation that I know nothing about. Maybe I'm reaching, idk, but the odd time my banter does trigger it's not backed up as though it should have been said earlier in the game. I don't know if there is much, or any, chatter that relates to specific events though, for obvious reasons.

Initial state : rare ish banter during my first 40 hours approx of the game (way past skyhold), mostly at the beginning of the game in hinterlands, very very sparse after I started recruiting companions actually.

Camp/horst/fast travel/audio options "fixes" : ineffective

Journal and log clearing : improved my situation a lot

War table "fix" : wow music in val royaux

Now, my situation is the following :

- I get banter at a OK rythm (10-15ish mins)

- I get location/event specific comments

- I get combat taunts and warcries

- I get a dozen second or so of music every couple minutes or when entering a new "subzone" : working as intended ??

- I get music in val royaux and annoying drums in skyhold

- I get repeat banter. It is definitely not a matter of "perception" but fact. Actually I THINK party banter literally "started over" after my long spell of dry audio, I get conversations I recall having in hinterlands in the beginning. Hope I will get something really new later ...

- Never had an interactive banter involving the inquistor

- quest complete prompts after the "journal new entries clearing" even after completing the quests. Sometimes, I get random quest updates that are still beeing tracked (the garden of skyhold for example) or "completed" even long after I had done them

So at this time it is not too bad compared to others, but not quite working as intended.

IDK if this is the same issue but I can reliably reproduce the following audio related bug on an Xbox One which includes muted dialogue.

The following steps result in all audio being muted including audio for banter dialog, music, and spell sound effects:

1) Press 'LB' to bring up the menu wheel.

2) Press the 'B' button to exit the menu wheel instead of using 'LB' or the 'exit' option on the wheel.

To restore audio:

1) Press 'LB' to bring up the menu wheel

2) Press 'LB' to close the menu wheel

Oh God I actually got some banter I'm so happy! I had 3 banters in half an hour. The only thing that has fixed it for me so far was turning off the Internet completely and going from Haven to the Hinterlands using the war room. (I tried the latter earlier and it didn't work, making sure Origin was completely offline seemed to help but it may be a red herring).

I noticed though that the banter was mostly triggered while I was in a significant area/doing something significant.

Banter 1: Approaching Redcliffe farms

Switched companions at this point

Banter 2: Clicking on one of those astronomy things

Banter 3: Clicking rest on a camp tent

Some reddit users who were looking at the code were saying that when they compared a bugged save to a non-bugged save, both were showing banter as being fired in the code, but the bugged version wasn't actually playing for the player in game. So whats happening with you is that the banter has been fired off, because of the bug you didn't actually get it, and its giving new banter that was supposed to happen later.

I am having a rather odd party banter bug, i do not have this silence that is going around, instead i have a loop of varric and solas talking about how varric fought corypheus once. This has replayed over a dozen times now. New banter does appear when its supposed to more or less to my understanding. Occasionally i will get some new conversation between varric and cassandra, or a small jib about an area. However hearing the same line being repeated over and over is rather irritating.

Just wanted to chime in with my experience. I have a feeling this bug is way more widespread than what was initially thought. This whole time, I just thought the game was really silent. There was *NO* background music and banter felt sparse. Come to find out, that wasn't the developer's intention.

I tried the suggestions put out there earlier. Set Origin to offline mode, started the game up and loaded my save in Haven. No music played. Went to the war room in Haven and fast traveled to the HInterlands and nothing. Then I changed my audio settings and went from Home Theater to TV. Started to get backgroud music. Never heard that in the hinterlands before. Then fast traveled back to Haven from the map. Background music was playing again (I've *never* had music play in Haven before). Not sure about banter being improved as I didn't play long enough. Still had no combat music.

Going to shelve the game for now as I think the music and the banter makes a huge difference, and the game has too many bugs to be able to just relax and enjoy (the flickering is annoying with SLI too, but that's a seperate issue). Hopefully they'll be able to get a patch up and running sooner than later.

I had started up a new character (female Qunari) and lo and behold, party banter! It seemed to be working properly - up until I reached Skyhold. And now it's back to what happened with my first character - no banter, and unlike last time, no music in Val R. Has anyone else experienced this? Everything being fine up until Skyhold?

I'd really appreciate it if someone from BioWare would give us solid numbers, including how many banters each companion has and roughly how often they're supposed to trigger.

I completed a 115 hour playthrough (basically 100% complete, except for some collection quests like the mosaics), never used mounts outside of the one racing quest, often switched up my party, and got an average of less than 1 banter every 2 hours. I believe this is abnormal since I've looked around the internet and noticed that I've missed many banters. Some recordings of other people's playthroughs also show much more frequent banter. Fallow Mire was basically a dead zone for me, which is not always the case for other players. I know that I've gone more than 4 hours without banter on occasion. Once I triggered 6 banters in an hour, which felt like the Maker himself smiled upon me and took me as his chosen.

I have never had the repeating issue myself, though the game does sometimes load in the middle of banter. In that case, I reload. The banter triggers later eventually.

Yes, this is happening to me now. I was so excited when I heard a ton of banter triggering in the Hinterlands, but now that I've gotten to Skyhold, almost everyone has fallen silent.

I've tried the reddit and the journal/codex fixes, but they don't seem to be fruitful for me.

At first I thought the War Room trick was what fixed it since that was only thing I did differently in the playthrough I restarted. Then the characters fell silent after one or two banters, so I tried clearing journal entries, and that made them get chatty again. Now they're quiet again, but I may just have run out of things they have to say during their first trip to the Hinterlands. So... yeah. I have no idea.

A few days ago, I had an issue where the game totally froze on me (3rd time for 1 playthrough <_<), so I had to do a hard shut-down of my console. Then, discovered that the Autosave feature didn't save the last 3 hours of my gameplay (not trusting that feature so much anymore).

So, I started over again in the part of the Hinterlands where I had been, doing all the same junk all over again, and suddenly, Cole, Sera and Iron Bull became SUPER chatty! They were all with me through the 3 hours of gameplay I had lost, and only Cole would spout random stuff here and there, but no actual banter back-and-forth. But, after the hard shut-down and reboot, they wouldn't shut-up, talking at least every 5 minutes, or a bit less often. I wasn't actually looking at the clock for how often they bantered, but it seemed so much more than I'd had from anyone up to that point.

Alas, the next day, banter went back to its usual way of the characters talking about once every hour or two hours. I'm not going to do keep doing the hard shut-downs, but that seemed to kick-start their banter for some odd reason.

I played some more with my first inquisitor, travelled to the storm coast and the hinterlands via war table, moved to other locations via fast travel, changed companions. Complete silence as always.

I started a new playthrough with a new inquisitor and I got 15 party banter in 10 hours of gameplay, which seems to be an improvement, compared to my first experience.

Also, this time I didn't get another bug that prevented me from using the mouse during the recruitment missions. I recruited Vivienne, Blackwall, Iron Bull, Cole. This time my mouse worked normally. However, when I recruit a new companion and the game automatically lets me select a new party, the sound disappears. It starts working again once I've made my choice.

Not sure if this has been suggested a lot, but combat stops party banter, and they tend to wait a little bit after combat before talking. If your like me you fade step everywhere (or whatever the other class skills are) then this could be your problem.

As soon as i stopped doing this the companion banter came back. I guess fade step starts combat, so each time i use it ive started combat again, giving my companions no time to talk.

You have a point, imagine if it is something as silly as that? I don't fade step or anything. BUT I many times accidentally "start combat" with my character firing off a basic attack when I wanted to do something.

With mouse I often find myself accidentally left clicking and shoot an arrow. Even happened when using a gamepad.

What if that is actually the case or part of the bug, we somehow reset the stage for banter to start over and over by "entering' a combat state.

Nah, that cannot be the case?!

Music fires for 5 s +/- generally or not at all. Combat music is almost "never" heard in the game... drama less, yes. Companion banter can be like 3 in 5 minutes to nothing in several hours... too Varric or Cole saying the same lines of banter 2 or three times in a row within 1 hour and then nothing else being said. The problem is random, and it kills the game. It makes me at least, feel very detached from the game... I've been trying to work out why I feel so little attachment to the characters in the game or indeed for the game world (outside of the great visuals). Music and audio carry your games (they bring life), because the combat wont.

Please also note that banter does not recycle, so you will only hear a set of lines once.

In which case I've just identified another bug (though I really don't care about it) as I've experienced conversation being repeated up to three times...

I kind of wish at this point they would put in some guaranteed banter trigger areas, like DAO had that stretch of track just before you get to the Dalish encampment. I used that stretch quite a bit to see if I missed out on any banter. I know it's less 'natural' to have it that way but at least we wouldn't miss out and you wouldn't have to use it.

Gotten a bit more banter today using the offline and war table trick. 3 in one go when I was getting a refugee supply cache in a cave and one time when entering a camp. It does seem to be triggered when I'm doing quests/going to significant places rather than just walking around in the open, which is what I used to get. Switching companions helped too. Quick traveling between Hinterlands camps may have just killed it for me though, it's all gone silent again.

Most annoying thing for me now is the bug where it plays the war table music constantly around Haven, but I guess that's not going to be an issue for too much longer lol...

Hello,

Just to add my own experience, in case it helps: I've made three characters, the first and third one are pretty much the same (elf mage), and i've done the same things (i've restarted my char because reasons).

My first character had banter all the time, every 5/10 minutes or so. That replacement char doesn't have much of it. Generally i get some after i travel back to camp, or switch chars, then it's back to silence for the time i spend clearing the area. I do get environmental banter and some music (but rarely).

Also, I'm wondering if this might be related to what I think might be an issue of randomness: with my first inquisitor, all my great bear claws worked and made masterwork armor. With my replacement char I never got one, though I tried about 15 times, and my dragon teeth didn't either. I did save before, reload and try again, and I also tried coming back to it later after clearing more areas, and still no masterwork.

I do enjoy the game, though!

PS: something else I've just thought of: with my first character, i went to the hinterland for the first time immediately after unlocking it from the war table (when it was offered to "venture forth"). With the replacement character, I said "not now" and went back to it (i think via fast travel though i don't remember for certain). Can anyone else with the bug remember how they first went there?

Something really weird happened yesterday before I went to sleep. After a couple of hours of having my party silent, except for some stuff like "there's danger ahead" or "we should search this location" and so, I got 3 complete dialogues between Solas and Sera, and then 2 more between Cassandra and Sera, but all in less than 5 minutes or so. That was really weird, like it was clogged or something, right? Then all went back to normal and even if I try *each and every* fix out there, my party still keeps quiet.

Not to mention the music, the few times I got to hear it, I was grabbing my head thinking about the amount of stuff I was missing.

Bioware don't give up, this is not *normal* or just our imagination, the most beautiful part of your games was the interaction between characters and except for the cutscenes most of us are completely missing that part.

Edit: Got to be fair, apparently unmounting and resting seem to unclog my party a little bit. Tried the fix of travelling from the war table while being offline and I only got to hear some music, but just that.
