Just for the record - on the PS4 I'm almost 90 hours in and have had little party banter. Constant change of companions doesn't seem to help. Also - almost no music aside from the singing bard in the bar and wind/weather sounds. I've tried the reddit fixes as well with no luck.
I was going to come here and ask this, in regards to what you can hear.
I'm on the pc. I can get Varric, Cass, and Solas to banter just fine.
Switched 2 out and have Cass, Blackwall and Sera. And they say nothing. Right now I am still in the Hinterlands.
Now I get combat music, music from the bard in taverns, and ambient music as I walk around.
Are people with banter problems getting no music at all (no combat/bard/local musics?).
Also, how did you install your game? Odd question, but I noticed for me (on the PC) I had to install from the disc, then run the game through origin to get an update, then download the extras (as it wouldn't work any other way).
Are those having problems installing from discs or digital downloads? How did you patch the game?
I've read about people suggesting two switch between sound version (Night/Hometheatre/TV/Headphones). Personally, I've used headphones since I got the game.
What option is your audio set to? One person with a PS4 said their music is low. Could it be too low for some selections?
If I think of anything else, I'll post it.

My problems on the PS4 have nothing to do with music - I get music just fine, as well as environmental / quest comments ("Shall we camp" etc). But (almost) no banter.
I installed from disc and played from there, not the digital version. Played with day 1 patch.
I'll start a new PS4 playthrough soon, let's see if it's somehow better than the old one.

I run a group of Cole/Iron bull/Dorian. Zero banter. For like 6 hours now. I couldn't hear music anywhere but I could hear combat effects and bard music. This is such a pain and to just give us the usual "Looks fine to me" response is making me go mad as I have stopped playing the game in hopes for a fix. And now I'm just crushed.
Seriously. Fix this whatever it is.

Whenever I do the war table travel method and go to VR to make sure the music is there and then I go somewhere else and then go back to Skyhold; I get war table music through Skyhold itself until I go back to the war table and then leave to make it stop.
I have seen dev pots, iirc, that this is a bug. So that alone shows me that something is wrong in the coding.

I have just tried putting Varric and Cassandra and Iron bull in a party. And I know Varric and Cass have tons of banter. And I never had them in a party before.
Not a single line. At all.
So I don't think i've exhausted their dialogue at this point.

Someone on reddit found this fix, not sure if someone's mentioned it or if it works for everyone, but worth a look:

How do you go offline without alt tabbing?
Go offline before turning on the game. You only need internet to connect to the keep when you start a new game, otherwise everything works fine offline. Well, except multiplayer, obviously.

Oh jesus christ this worked. I tried a different fix that had you tick off all the codex entries. But doing this I just got banter twice in 5 minutes.
Thanks!

Please also note that banter does not recycle, so you will only hear a set of lines once. The rate at which it occurs is also random, which is why sometimes you will encounter it more frequently, and sometimes less so.
HAHA! What a load of BS that is... I've heard the same banter more than once...

I keep that up and so far, I've been averaging a banter between my companions about once every 20-30 minutes. It slowed down some last night, but the Western Approach kept me busy killing throughout the time I was in the zone. I also make sure that items get checked off as well as the journal and codex. Frankly, out of all of the "fixes" that is the only one that has worked for me after exiting out of the game. I do rest at every camp, though I've long stopped doing the mount/dismount/rest trick.
I haven't tried the "War Table" trick to get music in Val R. yet, and I haven't gotten interactive banter while out in the field. I get the latter only when it's directly related to the plot.

I would go so far as to consider this a gamebreaking issue for a Bioware game.
Workarounds aren't enough.

I can assure you that they are working on it. I asked Allan again today, since I know some folks are concerned about the lack of communication directly from BioWare devs. He told me that they do see it as a problem, and they are still working on it. They recognize how important this is to players, and they aren't dismissing the issue.
Much of the QA team including Allan are putting in crazy hours in order to get these patches done. The first couple of patches at least are to make sure the game doesn't crash and quests aren't bugged. They know workarounds aren't enough for the banter problem. Just try to hang tight; they haven't forgotten about us.

No problem! Seems to be working for everyone who's tried this! Hopefully more people see it.

Next I play, I'll give this a shot as well. Can't hurt!
ADDITION:
I went in and did what was suggested on the reddit, clicking on every codex, quest done, and collection. I got a few dings in the journal area, and as soon as I took a few steps, Sera and Blackwall talked.
*blinks*
I wonder if the sounds and chats are getting 'stuck' in the buffer or something. Like it isn't having things go out in order, a bunch trying to play or get triggered at the same time?

But hundreds of players have reported this bug and you guys continue to bury your head in the sand even after all the articles and posts that directly contradict you. This is the worst QA for a game I've even seen. I cannot think of a single other developer that would choose to blame their playerbase for their frequent issues. Shame on you all.
It's disappointing but hardly new. Lazy developers have been using this "Working as intended" BS for a long time to avoid having to make patches.
I'm sure there will be a fan patch eventually that also fixes the other problems in DAI and makes it the way it ought to have been on release.

Back to being angry.

But this could be a start of something.
I cleared the journal bit and got 3 banters in an hour of playtime.
Might want to look at this, devs. Might be something blocking one bit if another goes off etc

I get that they are putting in crazy hours with the release of such a large game, but considering the banter issue appears to be one of the most common issues, enough that it required an announcement all by itself, it really wouldn't take them much time at all to make a forum post that is more communicative. Two posts on the issue that are semi-dismissive and give no solid info on how the banter system should be working is just not enough. I was hopeful at first, after seeing the devs address the concern and the rallying of the community, but now I'm getting upset, because the posts keeping coming in and everyone is theorycrafting about what things should be like when the dev team could clarify everything by explaining what players should be seeing in regards to the audio. I.E., banter every x minutes, music in x zones, etcI can assure you that they are working on it. I asked Allan again today, since I know some folks are concerned about the lack of communication directly from BioWare devs. He told me that they do see it as a problem, and they are still working on it. The dev team needs to take a page from the Turtle Rock Studios team over on the Evolve forums. They are constantly active and addressing concerns. Dev activity fosters a community.

Question for anyone. I've been playing for a while and once in a while I get banter (every two hours or so) and once in a while I get what sounds like a phantom voice. Almost sounds like I am walking up on a conversation...
I have this happen to me a lot and I think their are bad guys around but it isn't that.
Am I alone on this?

It's good they're working on it but I don't think it would be too much to ask for someone from Bioware to drop in and give us an update on their official forums instead of hearing about it through twitch or neoGAF.

The journal trick didn't work for me, but I tried the suggestion of fast traveling from the war table instead of the world map, and I get banter all the time when I do it. Today I got five within a half hour. (And this was my Bull/Dorian/Cole party that I tried before, so it wasn't just a character switch up.) But whenever I fast travel from the world map - even if I don't return to Skyhold first - banter either dies or becomes very, very rare. Like, one banter in 3+ hours rare, if I'm lucky. It seems maybe the world map is breaking it? At least for me.
