Hi everyone.

I've been trying this method, and it works for me 100%, so I hope it helps.

First delete all your manual saves except for two.

Then when you enter an area, make a new save, wait for the game to make an auto save, then delete a manual save, then wait for another auto save, and finally load that last auto save. After all this you should have normal Party Banter.

If you enter a to another area and notice that again the Party Banter don't work, repeat the steps above.

As I said so far this works for me the 100% of the times.

I'll try this the next time I encounter the dreaded silence.

BTW, for anyone who doesn't know, save files are located in your Documents > Bioware > Dragon Age Inquisition > Save folder, so you can copy and paste your files somewhere else everytime you have to delete a save file if you don't really want it to disappear.

Well, given that multiple media sites, Reddit and this very forum all seemingly agree that the bug is real, seeing Bioware just laugh it off like it isnt real should be met with that reaction.

Look dude, I cant play the game right now because I refuse to play a bioware game without dialogue.

I could go play another game that doesnt have its keynote feature removed.

I'll be honest, I was fine with just waiting for a patch, because really, theres no way to make a perfect game and release it without issues, but now that I see that Bioware is basically telling me I'm an idiot and I'm getting banter that i cant hear without subtitles, I'm genuinely tempted to get a refund.

Don't you understand how offensive it is for Bioware to effectively tell their entire community they are deaf and need subtitles?

No, because I'm a functional adult. The post didn't say anyone is deaf and needs subtitles. It said that they couldn't replicate the bug because banter seems to be triggering OK. And from what most users have said - including on reddit - this isn't a scripting problem, which is likely all Bioware tested.

At no point did anyone insult you.

Does Repair Game do anything?

Anyone tried that yet?

Ero, unfortunately, like all the other 985462826 workarounds posted in the combined 115 pages on this issue...it helps some people and does nothing for others. :)

"Latest" workaround from Reddit (worked for me as well as the war-table 'fix):

Open your journal and go through every completed quest and make sure none of them have the glowing star next to them, if they do, click it and wait for the star to disappear. Once you've gone through all the starred completed quests and close the journal, you'll get a ton of 'quest completed' messages popping up on you quest-HUD. After that i started getting banters again (non-location specific), after walking around for a bit.

Banter is absolutely fine on my end. Not excessive, but enough to add colour and flavour.

The sound isn't perfect though. Combat noises have a habit of dropping in and out after extended play sessions.

^PS4 user here, too. I go stretches without banter now, but I had some at the very beginning of the game; I didn't really notice that I wasn't getting any until after getting to Skyhold. Switching out party members doesn't really help now. I did get one banter this morning right after fast traveling from the War Table. I get intermittent music in most areas, but I never get music in Skyhold unless it's the War Table music or in the tavern and rarely get music in Val Royeaux unless I got there by fast traveling from the War Table. I really don't know what is up with the sound and banter, but I do hope they eventually get it sorted out.

Since they can't reproduce it in the code, I do wonder if it's something going on with the system by which the banter actually gets delivered to the player after being triggered. No idea how the music works, though. I had 3 or 4 conversation freezes during cutscenes in the Western Approach, which were also annoying. I'd only had one before that with Dorian.

Please also note that banter does not recycle, so you will only hear a set of lines once. The rate at which it occurs is also random, which is why sometimes you will encounter it more frequently, and sometimes less so.

Actually, I've had tons of recycled banter from Dorian and Varric... specifically the dialog where they are talking of betting on my chances against Corypheus.  I get that same dialog between them at least once every half hour it seems while we're out in the world.

You know what makes me insanely insanely furious. Happen to read spoilers just because I look for workarounds and tips against the bug in these forums and elsewhere.

The game is so far great (35 hrs of mainly sidequests) but I've stopped playing due to this game breaking bug. Genuinely good job to bioware for a so far great game (I mean that. Fantastic world design and voice acting etc. Everything else apart from this bug is great so far).

However, I'm at the same time pissed and furious at bioware that this bug exists at all. I know bugs happen. They always do, in all games. Not a huge problem. But not in such a critical system. It is not allowed.

And I'm so pissed that I also just read spoilers. I just want a time machine and erase the last ten minutes. This. Is. Not. How. I. Was. Supposed. To. Experience. This. Game. After. Waiting. For. Years.

After all this is fixed and done. Game companies (not only bioware) must, must, must somehow explain to their investors that releasing games with bugs hurts their business. Need some sort of UN sanction system where some democratically elected body just puts fines on companies for their bugs. Or I dunno. The only way to teach them (and their publishers) that you can't just release stuff before they are ready is through some sort of financial means. And "stop buying their games" doesn't seem to work.

Sorry for rant. I'm sure people will laugh at me and all that. Go ahead. I'm just starting to get real tired about the game industry standard of quality.

Now, I wish all the best in the bug fixing by the hard working folks at bioware devs. I don't hate anyone personally.

RE: Banter does not recycle.

That is bad. On Dragon Age 2 the banter recycled, so at least if you missed it the first time, you could hear it again. Can't you change that at least ?

Banter recycling also greatly improves the value of playing a longer game. I don't want mute companions just because I'm doing a completionist run :(

But it does recycle, I've heard banter recycle sometimes within 2-3 iterations.

Visit new places: Similar to party members, it’s possible to exhaust the banter for an area. It’s a great wide world out there, so go exploring.

Turn on subtitles: If you are concerned there might be something wrong with your sound system, turning on subtitles will help you identify if you’re hearing the banter as it occurs.

Please also note that banter does not recycle, so you will only hear a set of lines once. The rate at which it occurs is also random, which is why sometimes you will encounter it more frequently, and sometimes less so.

I have heard the same piece of banter more than once so it does recycle. As for exhausting an area, I went to the Western Approach for the first time 2 days ago, I had 1 piece of banter in the 2-3 hours I was exploring it, so nothing could have been exhausted. If players are using workarounds and it improves as a result then there must be a problem. I shouldn't have to zone in from the wartable, I shouldn't have to make sure all quests in my journal are marked as read.

I played through the game without realizing I had this bug because I was avoiding all discussion online since I didn't want spoilers. It was only after I beat it and checked out Reddit and the forums that I found out I had this bug. I didn't realize there was supposed to be music while fighting or exploring! I hear music on loading screens and for about 3-5 seconds after I fast travel, then it fades out. The world is so quiet! I run around on foot hearing bird sounds and rainful, but no music and rarely any banter. I listened to a video of possible banter between Solas and Cole alone and was so sad because I hadn't heard any of it. I switch my party each time I venture out because I like trying out different combinations of skills, and I know I combined Solas and Cole several times. In particular, I wish I had heard the banter between those two where Cole was asking about why Solas broke up with my Inquisitor. Could have given me a little closure since it had been some time since I'd gotten the final romantic cutscene with Solas.

I'm now holding off on a second playthrough just because I get so frustrated running around in silence again. The banter was a fabulous thing in Origins and DA2, and I don't want to miss it. It's also depressing to have this quiet world with no music when the bards and loading screens sound so pretty. Fix this, Bioware so I can enjoy the game again!

Edit: I'm playing the game on Windows 7 64-bit.

As for the music bug...It was very easy for me to LOSE my music...It had been playing nonstop in Skyhold and coming on quite often during exploring areas.  I backed out of the table in Skyhold.  Music was gone instantly in Skyhold and did not come back on trips to other places when I did not use the table to get there.

That seemed REALLY easy to test and prove there must be SOME sort of bug.

I don't think anyone is arguing that there are not some errors for some people where it is recycling, but the devs have stated, and for 95% of people the banter does NOT recycle. You are probably dealing with a bug similar to the people hearing nothing where the banter isn't working correctly.

There is no need for banter to recycle if you guys look up on youtube just how much there is...there is well over 2 or 3 hours of banter if you look on youtube. Spread that over 20 min intervals and thats 60 hours of pure exploring time where dialogue would be possible. That's probably much more time than most people spent in exploring zones.

So i guess all 20 pages of this thread are just wrong.

I'm not a functional Adult because I bought a game expecting it to work and it didnt.

The fact that you are implying that I am disabled due to my desire for a working game shows you are a laughably blind fanboy.

Bioware needs to fix the game, and stupid people like you who make apologies for them only hurt the rest of us.

Dear god. I wasn't going to step in, but you're being ridiculous.

Yes, BioWare should fix it. However, your tone needs to be addressed: You're not just reading between the lines, but down past the subtext, into fantasyland of what people are posting. Stop trying to find insults where none are intended!

No one is trying to insult you, and yes many of us feel frustrated. But you're ranting like a crazy person.

Would it be so hard to give us a "more banter" option where banter happens more frequently, there's no limit on amount, and banter sometimes gets recycled?

Many areas have so many random combat encounters that any banter that starts quickly gets interrupted. Often I have to run away from yet another boring combat so I can hear one of the rare bits of banter.

I’d wager that if they’ve managed to actually reproduce the bug now, they are testing builds with increased occurrence, reduced conditions etc., but in all likelihood are using those mechanisms to solve the problem. A last-ditch could be to release such a patch to consumers but without a way to gauge its effectiveness beforehand so it’d be very risky.

Another comment from me is that if it is working as intended then the design is wrong.

I think the banter issues and other audio issues are probably linked, so I dunno if that's a great fix.

Yes... restart the machine if you notice performance drop in db query... that's not diagnostics. just lazy, plain stupid and offensive towards the user, not frustrating.

I very strongly disagree.  I work maintenance.  I constantly get called because "There's no heat in my apartment!!!"  40% of the time it's because they didn't open the vents.  40% of the time, it's because they have baseboard heaters and they piled all their furniture against them, blocking the heat.  Just because it should be obvious, doesn't mean it occurs to everyone.  I imagine the same applies to issues on people's computers.

This is why everyone should try at least one job in the customer service industry. Everyone can be incredibly stupid at times, it's just part of being human.

Is simple, give us a function key to trigger banter. Then we can all use it as often as we like.

If the banter bug is a symptom of a larger problem (memory leaks, etc.), forcing banter to fire could create more glitches elsewhere.

I'd much rather Bioware take the time to thoroughly root out the problem than to issue a quick fix that makes the game even buggier.
