Party Banter

OT: Does anyone have footage of bug-free gameplay? I never realized there was combat music (aside from Dragons). Also, is music suppose to continually play? I beat my game thinking it's SUPPOSED to play for 10 seconds then fade out.

This is intended (they're not all quite so short, but there are only small themes that periodically play while you're exploring).
There is music for story missions, cutscenes, and some static regions and encounters (there's constant music on the west road, for instance, until you resolve both major quest lines there, and there is combat music for some of the staged fights in the area as well). There is typically not constant music during exploration, nor for random encounters (which comprise most of the fighting you'll do while exploring).
She's just totally broken.
Once you exhaust all the possible songs, she rotates between various states. One is to do nothing; another is to sing with no music (only vocals); another is to play music with no vocals; and still another is to actually work properly. Her lute will also randomly disappear.
Honestly, just avoid her as much as possible.
In short, because that's the way they made it. The bard is bugged, but everything else you describe is normal.
Wow, I sort of have the same problem as the user you are responding to and I'm pretty bummed about the background music being only so sporadic. I asked the same question in the mega thread about the party banter - I thought the bard bugging out is an indication of an audio glitch, I have two reproducable save games, where one has a working bard and a later one features a broken bard - the only difference between them is interaction with the war table in Haven...
Too bad that the background music seems to be designed for only seconds-long snippets of music, it really takes away from the enjoyment for me. Anyone played the Multiplayer? you have constant background music there and it just feels much more alive. I think the hinterlands exploring music is unobtrusive enough to be played for longer than 10 seconds every 2 minutes. I can understand that the battle music would be obnoxious after a while, the one that plays when you fight the templars on the Western roads. But these nice exploring tune? Man, maybe a mod can make a loop track or something, because I really don' like mainly hearing footsteps on my home cinema system...

It's very random for me, sometimes no one talks for 1-2 hours and sometimes they do every 5 minutes. I guess that's normal, note sure if the timer resets whenever you fast travel.

For me it is not consistent at all. I restarted the game after I completed game (about 150 hours or so give or take and I didn't finish the shards quest)
I romanced Dorian took him along on almost every mission walked around for ages and Sera ONCE commented about us hooking up. That didn't seem right.
I just restarted the game got all the companions (minus Dorian and Cole) and have been walking around with Iron Bull Sera and Varric - nothing. Silence.
I am happy to try anything that hasn't already been mentioned (fast travel from war table turning off online etc. Doesn't seem to be working for me.)
The only time I had dialogue from companions was in caves that weren't "travel to locations" that seemed pretty consistent. Almost to a fault (although I REALLY appreciated there talking to each other) because they hadn't talked the whole game it seemed like a torrent of conversation.
I just don't want to play the full game with out hearing the companions again. Bioware folks - do I wait for the bug to be resolved before I continue this playthrough? Is it not a bug at all and the companions just don't talk much?
What is the "situation" that makes them talk. With DA2 it seemed like it was locations on the map - I can't imagine it is the same for DA:I considering how big it is.

I am not sure if I am affected by the bug I have had but I wouldn't call it frequent maybe about 20 particularly between iron bull and dorian and vertical and cassandra but in the hissing wastes my companions have become very chatty

I honestly havent played SP more than a minute (hey, im a MP kind of guy), but it seems that the bug reported is that there is little no party banter in SP. I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO IT! It all migrated to MP! While playing MP, the different characters just... wont... shut up. If there are two of a same class, they often talk in unison for a stereo-like effect. They will even talk over each other, but not like people would normally talk over each other. One character would say something, another would say something in response, but in the middle of that, a third character fires off one of their random comments. Bizzare!

But hundreds of players have reported this bug and you guys continue to bury your head in the sand even after all the articles and posts that directly contradict you. This is the worst QA for a game I've even seen. I cannot think of a single other developer that would choose to blame their playerbase for their frequent issues. Shame on you all.
That is the most ridiculous statement I have ever had the misfortune of reading.

Can anyone confirm that within banter that the inquisitors romance is acknowledged?

Hmmm, I guess this is a blessing.
Just unlocked Skyhold and used the War Table to teleport to Storm Coast, I did not use the method that was on Reddit, my Origin was online. Now I am getting music in zones, getting music in Val Royeaux, getting combat music and for the past 2 hours, every 5-10 min, the characters talk to each other.

What about the lack of music throughout the whole game?
Actually I turned down the music volume because it was drowning out the party conversations.

Noticed something on PS4 yesterday that I thought was interesting, not sure if it helps or not.
Was walking through Hinterlands and (I have subtitles on), the 'speech bubble' on the companions portrait for Varric displayed.
Followed by the speech bubble from The Iron Bull.
But, I didn't hear anything.
In the Bioware testing where they said it seems as though everything is working as intended, this struck me as an instance where the 'banter' properly occurred... however some sort of audio issue prevented it from actually being heard.
I was able to use L1 to quickly bring up the menu, and L1 again to close it to hear the last couple of words of Iron Bulls response to Varric.
And a question: With subtitles on, should party banter be displayed as a subtitle?
I would think it would be (say, if I was hearing impaired).
However, even in the instances where I have heard party banter, it did not get 'subtitled'.
Ever.
Just thought it might all be related.

Do you have the subtitles on for conversations and ambient talk?

Just ignore him. Borderline trolling at this point.

Twitch seems to be having some problems right now but I have some semi-unbugged play in http://www.twitch.tv...past_broadcasts. I don’t know if anyone’s game is truly unbugged at this point
And as far as the combat music, I’m not quite sure where that meme came from… I’ve only noticed it in some key fights. In addition to that, when it’s working correctly, there should be various shouts and such in fights.

Geez, I'm playing on Xbox One (61 hours) and I've heard banter, music (though there are moments where it's silent except for SFX, but not to a degree that I thought it to be problematic). I'm not saying that there's fictitious concerns, I'm just saying I'm either lucky or I'm just not recognizing it as a problem on my end.

I feel bad for the dialogue writers who work at Bioware.
I know if I had spent months carefully crafting random banter between the various characters in the game and a bug was preventing a huge chunk of the audience from hearing any of it, I would be upset.

All right, I know for a fact that while going through the HInterlands, I've had Cassandra and Solas have the same banter trigger at least two or three times. Hours apart maybe but I distinctly recall thinking to myself that I had heard this banter already.
I've had the same banter trigger on a single character, and I remember the exact conversation as well.
It was Solas asking Varric about the characters in his book and how they were all in disguise except for one. Both times triggered in the Hinterlands.

It's weird. Sometimes my game is totally buggy and in the next instance I get banter. I just started a new character, and yesterday, people were quite chatty (maybe 4 banter in 2 hours of play), which was great. Today, 2 hours in the hinterlands, one banter. It's still more than in my other playthrough, but the rate is going down, despite me doing all the fixes and avoiding horsemaster Dennet.
It's really weird. Had no music in Val R. either.

The most reliable way for me to get banter was a combination of fan fixes:
- War Table Fix
- Cleaning up the Journal (Quests, Codices, Finished Quests etc.)
With these applied, I did a little test:
Stood idling in a camp....Banter ever 3(!)-10 minutes. Running around spamming V (Search) & fighting....banter became more sporadic and I missed at least one in a chain between Dorian & Cassandra. (He called her out for lying re: the Seekers & the Mage rebellion after only having asked her what the Seekers were previously) Though not the HOURS of silence I'd get prior to this. I'm also getting music in Val R., Skyhold, the bard is working again and my guys are chattering about the environment again as well. Could it be Search interfering? Are there too many scripts active while fighting, exploring & questing for banter to fire?
I also noticed in my earlier pt (97 hours, maybe 25 banters in all) that the more you progress in the story, the less chatty my companions became on all fronts. (I mean the first mission in Haven where Cass, Solas & Varric would NEVER shut up? Is it supposed to be LIKE THAT the entire time?)
Dunno if this helps any. My rig also isn't top of the line anymore. My settings for DAI are Medium-High. Maybe it's a performance priority issue?

I'm about to do the final story mission, and I've played 140 hours. I've been everywhere and done everything, and searched every nook and cranny. I recruited everyone and made sure to switch them out every so often. I had some banter when I started in the Hinterlands, but I must be incredibly unlucky because I haven't heard any banter at all since then except for 3 instances. I've tried everything I can think of and suggested solutions, nothing works. Here's hoping my second playthrough won't be bugged like this.
