Thanks for the link, Spirit.  I think that the only way the devs might be able to address this is if they see it for themselves.

I'll continue to add to it as I make my way through the game. I only have a 14 day limit though unless I highlight all of it.

By the way, while we're on the topic of music, I found the Skyhold drums bug (where the war room drums start playing throughout Skyhold if you fast travel from the war room map, until you enter and leave the war room normally) also happens in Haven.

LOL I called it! Why would Bioware bother patching or fixing the game now that they got our money?!  But hey at least most people now can see bioware as what it is a bunch of lying backstabbing thieves.  SUPPORT CD PROJECT! BUY THE WITCHER 3!!

That's what you see.  I see a weird glitch that has the developers stumped.   Conal was at least trying to make sure everyone had done the basics.  It seems obvious and frustrating to us, but ask anyone that is a troubleshooter for a living:  You start with the basics.  Hopefully now that he knows that we've tried the basics, we can go into more complex ideas.

And I'm not into the Witcher series (no bashing, just not for me,) so no, I'm not supporting CDPR in that regard.

To be perfectly clear: as I said, we are still looking into this and conducting further testing.

I am providing you with an update on what we have found so far, as well as some general best practices. This doesn't mean that we are not taking your concerns seriously or that we are not looking into this.

This is an update on what we have found to date on an issue we know is near and dear to our community.

I'm sorry if there was any confusion, but please do not misconstrue my message as a dismissal of what you've been telling us.

Everything seems to be working fine for me.

It seems fine for me too. So disappointing to hear that so many people have this issue. Yet another reason why a patch is needed ASAP.

I'm very disappointed with this response.

First off, I don't use my mount at all.

Second of all, no one banters for me at all in most places. For example, I'm in Emerald Graves right now, I have been messing around there for an hour.  I have Vivenne, Cassandra, and Sera.  None of them have bantered here at all. Previous to this I had one banter with Sera and Cassandra in Forbidden Oasis (which seems like perhaps a non-bugged banter area? I get significantly more banters there than anywhere else).  So one conversation between those two, and that's it?  I always talk with companions between missions, no one at Skyhold has had anything to say to me for a while, because I've been doing side missions. So you're telling me that's it, you only wrote one banter between those two?

And when I bring out Iron Bull, Cassandra, and Cole, three characters that I've never brought in the same company before, they say nothing to each other. That's working as intended?  No dialog was written between those characters??

Hi Bioware,

I'm with everybody else...Please read the thread.

My friend is literally 80 hours into the game, and she loves Iron Bull, Varric, and Solas.  I went and listened to someone else's recorded versions of Iron Bull and Varric's conversations (something I REALLY didn't want to have to do).  We have heard maybe 2 minutes out of the 10 minutes that I see listed there.  Literally about 1/5th of the available options (and yes, the gameplay we've done is fom an imported Keep save so it should have had the ones related to DLC decisions and the like).  This is on her favorite characters.  On other characters (Cole, for example) she hasn't even heard 1, even though she played with him for several hours.  Again, this is after 80 something hours of play.

Do you think I'm skipping them?  Sound is definately on (we play it loud in this house).  Most of the conversations we seem to hearing at this late game are the ones that I expect to be played early in the game.

And that doesn't even count that I just heard the same conversation between Solas and Varric repeat for the THIRD time in the last two hours.  Literally, they have talked about the expressions of the Orlesian nobles 3 times today (and I'm even kind of happy about this, because at least it is SOMETHING).  It isn't the only conversation to repeat, in the same period I heard the one between these characters with solas questioning how ###SPOILERS### the big baddy already being killed before.  So you're flagging for conversations not repeating is not working perfectly either.  I'm not making this stuff up... there is DEFINITELY a problem, whether you can replicate it or not.  First, I'm pretty these are supposed to be a relatively early conversations.  Second...well, second they're repeating.

Please help, please confirm that you are at least listening.  We want to help.

That's what I figured as well.  Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us.  I apologize if I've been coming across as harsh, but it's mainly frustration over this matter.  My husband is a programmer (in a much different industry) and few things drive him insane like a weird and inconsistent issue like this.

If it helps, those of us that have been in the party banter thread are happy to provide a list of things we've tried.  We've also got some folks happy to pass along links to twitch streams that show these near-silent playthroughs.

I was under the assumption the minimal banter was due to a bug but after reading some comments here on the boards I am starting to wonder if that is actually the case or whether there really are very few banter options...  The lack of completion recognition for certain questlines to me is even more strange.  For instance, the One Less Venatori quest I was sure that I would have a conversation with Dorian regarding, simply because the quest just vanished.  Not even a banter-esque comment when the last kill was made (which would have been sufficient, honestly.)  Some quests end well, adequately at minimum but that one for me felt very incomplete and unfinished.

I just wish I knew what the "norm" was for these things so I wouldn't feel like I am missing something.

to all, i am ok after leaving the Hinterlands and completing "In Your Heart Shall Burn".

Iron Bull and Dorian have been bantering in Fallow Mires after repeated conversations of Cass, Solas and Seras in Forbidden Oasis.

But no one talks in Hinterlands, Orlais and when u are doing a main quest. so yeah, i guess this game kind of 'force' u explore as much as possible instead of just doing the main quests.

It would be great to know how much and how often banter is supposed to occur. Additionally to knowing whether personal quests and romance influence banter as well.

If I get banter at all, it appears to be picked from the beginning of the game, despite me being at the end, so it appears banter is at least not skipping ahead to more recent events. It might be odd, but at least I am not getting spoiled out of context.

It's fine for me, as I can't get them to shut up but I hope a fix can be found so everyone, that has been affected by this bug can enjoy the banter.

It's nice to see players without the bug popping in and commenting that they hope a fix is found. Gives me a little bit of hope in this community that keeps me coming back to these threads, even if the developer responses aren't what I wish they were. (No offense intended, I'll go with the benefit of the doubt and assume everyone is trying their hardest to fix this.)

No, there is a lot of banter. Or at least there should be. There's a youtube channel that has uploaded all the banter and there's something in the region of three hours. The problem is, most of us are not hearing anywhere close to that.

In my 30+ hour playthrough I've heard perhaps 10? banters.

I know close to nothing about my companions relationship with eachother. Why would this be intentional?

Thank you for clarifying this. I was almost in tears (I've had a bad week ok. Lol) reading the first post.. especially because I've spent so much time testing and verifying that it is an issue.

I never use mounts, I never use the same party more than twice in a row, I got subtitles on, I complete quests constantly and after 50 hours of gameplay I've gotten 10 banters scattered among hours of silent exploring. This goes beyond "perception" or "oh, they just use the same party all the time". This is a real problem and you should own up to it. I'm getting half a game for full price.

So still no patch just this useless thread to tell people that this is all their fault..? Wow, even I did not expected this kind of ''support''...

P.S. Maybe there is a problem with Dragon Age Keep importing thing?

I tried that in my experimenting.   I made sure to create a brand new world state, with a different name.  I picked the same choices and imported it.  It did no good.

I also tried a completely different world state (dead Warden/pro-Templar Hawke) and still no go.  I made sure to only have a few characters (so there isn't too much save data,) and tried with different gender/race/class combinations.  None of which get the banter to fire with any sort of consistency.  I've got up to 3-4 hours in mostly dead silence.  The music loops every 3 minutes for bout 20 seconds while in camp outside of combat (I was timing it during my testing this week.)   This was without getting into any combat at all.   Never any music in Val R. and never any music that plays for more than about 20-30 seconds every 3-5 minutes outside of Haven and Skyhold.

I also was able to pinpoint a spot where the banter stopped, very early on.  There is a short tunnel next to Whittle (I finally got his name right, he's the guy that gives you the quest to find the apostate caches) in Crossroads.  It leads out to the west, I do believe.  I had banter about every 10-30 minutes or so up til that point.  The music was much more consistent as well.  I even had banter going as I began walking through the tunnel, much to my joy.  Then it stopped in mid-sentence and I had about 2 hours of silence before I finally decided (at the 8 hour mark) to go get my mount.  I didn't do any unusual tricks prior to that point, just rested.  It didn't work.   After doing what the thread calls the "fast travel/mount/rest trick," then and only then did banter come back.

This wasn't a testing character (I spent about 15 hours this week testing, and some of the posters have done even more than that,) this was on a reroll where I was just playing the game and not doing anything out of the ordinary.

Note: This is with the starting party.  I have not recruited anyone else.  I would have thought that Cass and Varric would have more than two conversations with each other in (now) 10 hours of game play.  I've gotten 4 banters out of 10 hours (two from Varric/Cass, one from Solas/Cass and one from Solas/Varric.)  I'm not trying to be snarky, but did I really just exhaust all of their dialogue options so quickly for that zone?

Same. I've gotten repeat banter, and that alone should show that there's something wrong the flags/triggering/etc.

Definitely the same.  Though instead over the space of a large number of hours, one conversations just repeated three times in the space of 2 hours, and another repeated twice (no loading involved).

All this in two hours. Some of the stuff I haven't heard would be SOOOO nice :)

As someone who did a 70 hour play through and only got maybe 10 banter convos at most (with varied party members) I HOPE there is a bug found, because if not I have a lot of very quiet play-throughs to look forward to. ):

Don't know if it's a map flagging issue or what, but I never used mounts and my party members were silent 90% of the time. Given the youtube banter videos I've seen, I know my party had more to say! But alas.

Thanks for looking into the problem though. :3

I think in the other thread we have established it is not linked to platform, Keep status, gender, race, or class, or companions you have with you, or if you ever use/acquire mounts.

All we do know is that it can be temporarily fixed for most people by a combination of resting, dismount/ mount, fast traveling, or journal clearing. But it always returns, and if you don't do the methods, you won't get banter, music, comments during battle, or environmental commentary.

If you get any of the four, it seems to go environment commentary > music > combat comments > banter, in that order. (For me at least. We havent really done a proper analysis of that). But environmental commentary is soooo much more likely to fire than anything else, it seems.

It happens in all areas, but some seem worse than others. Western Approach and Exalted Plains are the two I think I've seen mentioned most as dead areas.

This is my first Bioware game so I just assumed that the game didn't have much banter. I did wonder why people always went on about party banter for this series. So, it appears that I have the bug too. I'm 25 hours in and just finished a significant quest with my first major choice. I have only heard banter from Cassandra related to quests 3 times (once with Varric in Val Royeux) and once between Blackwall and Vivienne. Also, reading through this thread, apparently this game is supposed to have an OST? I don't know whether or not it's meant to play when exploring the world but it doesn't for me. The only music I hear is the awesome music in the start screen. If this game has it, I would more music of that kind when doing my quests.

Anyway, this party banter issue colours our perception of the game and its characters. I'm in love with this game but I don't really like some characters (ex: Iron Bull). On the flip side, I was pretty much indifferent to Blackwall until I heard his banter with Vivienne. Now I quite like him.

I realize that you guys are looking into this but I just came here to post to let you know that this is a problem that many people are experiencing without even knowing it. If you are unable to reproduce it, that doesn't mean there is no problem. It means that what you are doing is not working. Please don't stop trying until it is fixed.

Edit: I guess I should mention that I always play with subtitles and don't really use my mount. I also meander a lot when questing and pick herbs (hence my relatively long play time for my progress).

Thank-you for the clarification, Conal. I think one thing we would like to know is if there should (always/never/sometimes) be music in Val Royeaux. The lack of music there seems to be a high commonality. If I'm not supposed to be hearing anything, I'd rather stop fast-traveling there "just in case it will work this time." :)

I used to work on large scale development projects and to be honest "we can't replicate your issue" was one of the most common responses from developers! What helps that is when developers sit close to the testers so they can actually see the issue with their own eyes. But of course we ccan't do that in this case. So what do you need? The thread referenced has people going through literally hours and hours of playtesting with exactly the stuff you rrecommend in your OP. Do you need any further proof it's an issue. Obviously there is an issue outside your Standard setup in BW offices...
