To me it's weird, on certain maps I can get almost constant banter in the beginning; Storm Coast and Hissing wastes for example, but on others they are totally silent.

I have also noticed (I have almost finished my second playthrough btw) that earlier in the game there is a lot of talk but not later, even though I have changed my party around during the later half of the game where I had about the same party through out the earlier half.

For example, during this first half of the game I had Cole, Solas and Dorian for the most part.
Solas and Cole has talked a lot and Dorian and Cole a bit. Hardly any Solas and Dorian though (I loved their banter in my first playthrough).

Now I have changed it up a bit, I have Sera and Blackwall with me and they have said nothing. Not to each other and not to Dorian. No matter which map I am on.

So there seem to be an issue here and I am glad they are looking in to it because party banter is so entertaining.

Btw...do your companions talk about your love life at all? I know that they talk about in possible relationships within your inner circle (won't say which since I don't want to spoil and the spoiler tag does not work for me!) but I have not heard a single comment about my Inquisitors.

First playthrough I romanced Cullen - Leliana mentioned it once at the war table and Dorian mentioned it once while talking to him.

This time it's Blackwall, only Dorian.

I loved all the banter concerning your relationships in the earlier games and now that you can actually answer? It feels like real miss if there's no such conversations :/

Has anyone heard such banter?

Supposedly there is, especially with Cole.  Though I haven't heard any.

I heard perhaps four examples when my main romanced cassandra.  Two from the bull (which were amusing) and two from sera (which were vulgar, and thus also amusing).  I was hoping for more, cause running for shards is a laborious business, but that was it.

For the most part I was underwhelmed by the repartee.  Only one in 130 hours where I had the option to interject mid-talk.  On the other hand, I suspect that it'd be chalk full of laughs if I wasn't a completionist.  And thus required the 20 hours spent puttering about in the hissing wastes to be filled with something other then the sad sound of me hitting the "f" button.  ;)  tap, tap...tap...tap, tap, tap...and so on.

I'm really sad that it's been over a month since we've heard anything new on the banter issues.  Banter is almost the entire reason I love Dragon Age games.  I still replay DAO, even though I don't like the combat much, just so I can hear those banters again - even though I've heard them all before and can look them up on Youtube!

For the record, I've tried the war table fix and keeping my game offline - both seem to help a bit, but not 100%.  I can still set my characters down in the storm coast and just leave the game on waiting for banters (yes, I do this, this is how much I love banters you guys) and find that the banters only trigger once per hour.

Also for the record:

-I never use mounts

-When banter is firing for me, it doesn't matter if there are enemies on my screen. When it's working, I'll get banters right in the middle of a fight (which I don't mind since I have subtitles on)

-When banter is not firing, I can be in a secluded area that rarely ever gets enemies on screen, and I could wait an hour or even two hours before the next banter fires.

-I know banter isn't exhausted because I'm aware of certain banters that people have mentioned on the internet, that I have never gotten. The one where Cole talks about Dorian's personal mission, for example.

-I always talk to my folks back at the keep, so that's not the issue.

-Places like the Western Approach are ones that I will get 1 banter tops and then never again.  It doesn't matter how long I wait in the Western Approach, it's just not gonna happen there.

How DARE you expect them to communicate with you in any way between Thanksgiving (which in Edmonton is in early Oct) and a week into the new year, as if you are some kind of paying customer that deserves an amount of respect or even more, simple consideration!

I find it amusing that we're expecting a silent banter bug to be solved by an equally silent developer.  It's ironic really.

^^^  Actually, scratch that.  These in-game characters are way more chatty than the people in charge of fixing said bug(s).  Still, mostly SILENCE remains...

We still don't even know WHAT these people are even working on...

I'm going to call Freddie Prinze Jr (aka Iron Bull) and see if he knows anything....maybe Darrah & Laidlaw hired him to speak for them...

They actually basically let us know exactly what they're working on....Look at the update they brought out before patch 2. They clearly outline their plan for the patches. That's not to say it wouldn't have been nicer if they updated us, but they already told us what they are working on.

^^^  Well maybe you can discern what they're working on, but I can't.  It's been almost a month of radio silence and I don't really care too much about party banter at this point.  I can't get worked up to that point in the game.  The PC controls are borked and I'm not sure if they're working on them or not.

Nope, what's ironic is the multiplayer section has threads asking Bioware to make them shut up the banter.  Single-player is asking for moar... Maybe they swapped the code around accidentally

any update yet? It's been over a month and I still have yet to play this game due to this banter problem. I mean Jesus. Is a little update too much to ask?

Hey folks!  :)

I too have experienced the banter issue/bug/whatever across multiple characters between my own and my husband's .

What I find odd is that one of my characters does not seem to have this issue.

I rolled him out of curiosity to try out Cass' romance (he was my 3rd character) and was amazed once I hit the Hinterlands and I was getting banter after banter between Cass/Varic/Solas. And this was right at the start.

Ever since, I've been getting really good banter rates with him and I've done nothing like clear journal/codex/etc.

I can play naturally with him and everything is nice. It's amazing how much this improves gameplay.

On the other hand - all my other characters that I would love to play and not be a chore, pale in comparison.

I get huge periods of silence and no matter what I do, the banter does not seem to improve.

I don't want the game to be a chore, where I try all sorts of crazy stuff to get my party to talk. I don't want to sit in one area idling to test out the banter. None of that stuff is fun. I would love to play all my other characters as I can play my dude Trevelyan.

But the silence on the others is driving me crazy and the difference between the silent games and the talkative one is sky-high!

If this is truly RNG at work then I really hope Bioware does something about it in the next patch.

From reading on how it works, it all sounds good on paper, no? Well that's the thing - something that looks good on paper, might not work that well in an actual gameplay environment.

Out of all the gameplay hours, how many do you spend in combat, how many do you spend crafting, throwing yourself off Skyhold balconies exploring Skyhold, exploring areas that are no-banter, etc. etc. ?

Then you get a time frame where you COULD get a banter but RNG decides to go troll on you. :/

And the fact that I have one character that has really good banter rates and 4 that can go on for very long without hearing anything means something is wrong somewhere.

Even if it's "working as intended" - then the implementation is not ideal.

Another thing I have been thinking about...it doesn't seem to matter which people I bring to a main quest, cause they were apparently all there. Like after killing the first high dragon (not a main quest, but still) - first time I had Bull with me so I thought the drinking with him afterwards was awesome. Second time, did not have Bull with me. Still got to go drinking with Bull and talk about the dragon that we supposedly killed.

Same thing with the Winter Palace, I just got some party banter (I got Three in a row all of a sudden between Dorian and Sera who previously in this playthrough of 105 hours had not said a word to each other) one of them was about how Dorian cannot believe Sera survived the Winter Palace. I brought neither.

Is this supposed to be so? Are we to just imagine that all of our party members go with us to everything? Or is this a bug?

Because I find it a bit annoying to be honest.

^^^  You're ALL basically on the same team.  Look at it like only 11 players are allowed on the field at one time, but you have a 52 man roster....they're all on the sidelines cheering you on.  That was sort of a football analogy, but it's the best one that I can think of at the moment... maybe that one will work for you.  What you need is a little more suspension of disbelief in your diet... :)

They probably still off on holidays.

Funny thing is my Friend bought DAI on PS4 and he have banter bug and ambient music dead, but he seems to enjoy the game so much that I had no hearth to tell him the truth:) SO many people do not even realise how the music and sound in the game should be.....

What?  Another malcontent?  This game is perfect.   Without flaws.  You guys just have to re-program your brains to like it.  Here is a hammer, now please take off your hat sir and take your medicine.

Well, I had a lot of banter in my first playthrough.. I just started the second one and my party got pretty quiet. Hopefully some patch/fix will be available soon. :(

You're supposed to imagine for certain scenarios..this isn't a new feature to DA:I. The story acting as if the inquisitor has a self imposed 3 members per party rule despite fighting monstrous dragons and demons would be more bothersome IMO.

Only once -- my Qun inky was romancing Sera, and I had both Sera and Cass in a party in Hissing Wastes.

If that is the case then why have the whole "accompanying the Inquisitor" thing in the Winter Palace. Or why not have Josephine mentioning that the others are "around": Just something like that.

To me, either they are there or they are not. To have it both ways is just bothersome and confusing.
And not having that scene with Bull unless you have him with you to kill at least one dragon gives you replay value. "What, I never got that scene! I have to make sure to bring him with me the next time!"

I've noticed in my second PT there has been considerably more party banter than there was in my first play through, so something does seem to be working better there. Also, I noticed the more I change up the group I am running around with the more banter I get, which makes sense since they all have a limited number of things to say (though some new things do open up as you do the main story/companion stories).

Yeah, I think it's been pretty much established by now that switching up your party won't affect anything for people who have the bug.
