you wouldn’t want Sera spoiling the plot for you, would you?

I actually find this kinda funny, considering Sera did kinda went spoiler-happy on one of my characters with the shard quest. :P

Spoiler

Also, another thing - please consider making area-banter not influence/reset the timer on the in-party banter.
Or at least put some safeguards in place in the script, that in case you get one area banter, the next one will be a party banter.

I had one play session also in the Emerald Graves where I had only repeat area-banter from Cole.
About 45 minutes of play-time in the area, not talking to any NPC, just exploring and gathering herbs/metals, not using the horse (obviously, I wanted to get my party to talk) and for all that, I had Cole say 3 TIMES "The squirrels can see me"
Yes, Cole - I get it! They are very observant. :|

And this was with another party member in the party that Cole never talked to, even though we were mid-game by now and I had them in my party many times.
So there - 3 banter opportunities completely wasted just because area related banter took precedence.

I've been continuing to try the various blood magic as sometimes I'll go hours without banter, and other times I'll get it regularly, as intended. I've oddly seemed to have the most consistent banter in the Hissing Wastes, though I've gotten occaisional random banter in The Western Approach (not much, but I've gotten a handful and not just in the Still Ruins.) They've all been with Blackwall, though.

The Hissing Wastes is a good place for banter in my game.Except in my last PT. But like i said before, something was really messed up with my banter in that PT. I also have some conversations in the Western Approach on occasion. But only after I did the war table mission Crossing the Sulphurus Pits. Before that, my party is dead silent.

I actually find this kinda funny, considering Sera did kinda went spoiler-happy on one of my characters with the shard quest. :P

Spoiler

THIS, thank you! She says that every time and I always want to scream at her: SPOILER, Sweetie!

I don't think that the number of active quests have anything to do with banter... On my first playthrough I had LOTS of banters and my journal was full of quests :P Right now, second playthrough, I still have fewer quests gathered and I haven't heard a single banter. So..

I also don't think that's the problem. In my last PT I unchecked all the quests and my banter was a mess. Before that I usually had tons of open quests and my banter was a lot better.

I counted the banter this time per area. Result:

  • Hinterland: 15
  • Storm Coast: 8
  • Fallen Mire: 6
  • Crestwood: 10
  • Exhalted Plains: 6
  • Emerald Graves: 4
  • Western Approach: 4!!!
  • Emprise du Lion: 11
  • Forgotten Oasis: 1
  • Craddle of Sulvin: 1 (I did fifteen runs in there, to get all the important schematics)
  • Hissing Wastes: 2
  • Still Ruins: 1

All in 76 hours. I know it seems much, but I did the HL/SC/FM/CW in about 20 hours. And most of the banter was between Blackwall/Companions or Cassandra/Companions. The rest of the PT felt very silent. And this is also very little banter for me. I usually have so much more. Cole/Sera/Dorian never talked with each other after I started the Winter Palace and Here lies the Abyss. And I had them in my party a lot until I decided that I give up and try someone else. And whoops banter between Blackwall and Dorian....whoops banter between Blackwall and Cole

The worst thing is that I never know whether I have the bug or not. I want to enjoy my game and not worry about something like that. I hate that I have to try all these workarounds, only to determine at some point that it hasn't helped at all.

I have an issue with the game where there is total silence from any and all Bioware employees.  This banter bug is contagious.

Still no news, I see.. I'm one of those many people who are waiting with playing the game until they can fully enjoy it - that is, have banter :( It's such a big part of the game...

I saw that there is a video on youtube with all of the party banter. It's 5 hours long. Hilarious, considering I've heard maybe 30 minutes worth in 130 hours. Great to see that there's been no update in a month. *sigh*

So I'm playing on nightmare and rarely I have some banter . Do you mean that I have to play on easy and boring normal mode so I can have more banter ? very cool bioware  <_<

You might be right.

I thought the quest volume might have been the reason my banter just stopped (despite the workarounds).  However, I cannot consistently reproduce it starting up when i complete quests.  At this point, I have a workaround routine.  I have to do so much to get consistent banter that I have no idea what is working or not.  The latest thing I am doing is reloading from an autosave.  Consistently, the banter starts after doing that.

Whatever the root cause is of this defect, it appears the workarounds are resets.

Again, if Bioware would study the Western Approach, they could isolate the root cause.  WA has next to no random party banter.  There is no way that they intended that for that zone.

I checked the 5 hour video, and one playthrough I had really just Blackwall, Bull and Sera, and I heard most of the banter between them.

I'm not so sure of the banter bug but I have not had a playthrough where I have had nothing. However, whenever I do feel like I have the bug (yes, I've also encountered long periods of silence) - I simply fast travel via war table and then to Val Royale. Based on the devs and gameplay experience it seems that Val Royale has no banter so its possible that the banter system is "reset" by visiting this area.

If that is the case, as this bug seems to be very difficult to catch, a temporary solution would be to include a "reset" command used by Val Royale upon entering camps or fast travelling. It's not perfect, but a bandage is better than an open wound.

The solution is simple.

Play your PC game like a console game:  roll a new character, don't save manually (ever).  Periodically check that everything is 'working as intended' (ah ah ah ah aaaaaaaaaaaah....sorry) by fast traveling to a camp.  If you hear music when resting, you're good.

Otherwise, go to the war room and travel from there to Val Royaux (for instance) to reinitialize whatever poor programming is causing the problem again.

Never back out of the Facebook game Wartable

Never fast travel to another zone from the map in this gorgeous semi (does this mean half-assed?) open world.  Always use the 'exits' of the zones to travel from one another.

And voilà.

Please somebody, for the love of Jesus the Inquisitor, post that on Twitter.

Hugs and kisses

Yeah and apparently consoles are just as screwed up, evem with all of these wonderfully intuitive and convenient work arounds :(

Can I travel from War room to VR?

Yes that's actually one of the solutions to 'purge' your save from the recurring audio bugs: travel from the war table to a region (at the beginning of a quest), or from the bridge in Skyhold, then only use fast travel inside the region.  Never fast travel between regions.

I cannot for the life figure out how to search a specific thread for keywords so I don't know if this has been mentioned...

But I'm wondering if the "party banter bug" affects the MP game as well.

There are times when playing MP that no matter how many times I press the keys for Thank You, Come Here, and Fall Back, my character says absolutely nothing to the other players.

Can't help you, haven't tried MP.  Sorry.

Eaware' s deafening silence can indeed make you paranoid.  Is it a bug? Is it fixed? No, Maybe, when.. on which platform, is Microsoft, and Anita Sarkeesian alright with the way the bug is addressed,  am I crazy...is it because of Dorian, Vivienne..... are they crazy?

What I'd really want to see added in game, not just more banter between party members, but between the Inquisitor and party members.
I loved that in Origins you could just stop and ask what Leliana knew of a place's history, or give your LI a random kiss in the middle of a forest, or just talk to them for lols. I'd love to take my LI(if a member of along takeable companions) solo out with me to some forest or some beach and be able to have a one-on-one banter with him/her(Alistair remarking about the perks of travelling alone ;3 ). I don't think that would have been too difficult to manage with a game of this status.

It would bring more depth to the now rather shallow relationships between the Inquisitions followers and the Inquisitor imo. Atleast I would have more chances to grow attached to my LI and friends.

Hi I just restarted a new game; this time without an elf :P. Anyway I have a rogue human male. Solas, Varric, and Cassandra. They have not had any party banner between them from the crossroads, to Dwarfpass, then to Master Dennits. Obviously I can't have new party members yet, and I just got my horse. Didn't have this problem first play through. Not sure that means anything to help the problem, if there is one.

So basically we shouldn't do anything. Let's just stand around at the first camp in the Hinterlands and then it will work as intended. If even then.

Yes. And then - just as you see the first ray of sun, and your party starts to talk, the requisition lady comes over and interrupts them because there is "Nothing to report, ser.".

That is clearly vital information and must take precedence over any other silly banter the companions might have.

70+ hours of gameplay in my first playthrough and i heard 10 banters. 20 hours into my second playthrough and I have heard 1. This really is unacceptable, and honestly, it's put me off playing my second playthrough.

My first playthrough back in late November clocked 90+ hours with MAYBE 6 instances of party banter throughout. I came back to the game today, applied the patch, adhered to the work-arounds that seem to be working for a lot of people . . .  and nothing. No banter, no music in Orlais, and various other little audio issues (particularly during battle).

This is extremely disappointing. I paid 70 dollars for a deluxe edition of a game that is gutted by a persisting bug that, months later, still has no official fix. Next time I'll be skipping the preorder and waiting a few months to make sure that bedrock game content like this will actually be included in my purchase. Should've just borrowed a console copy from one of the esteemed elect whose game is actually working as it should.

Im really shocked on the silence from bioware. Figured we would have heard something or anything on upcoming stuff

Do pc people also get garbled speak?
