I was creating new toons, and noticed on my new one I had zero banter all the way to Val Royale for the first time. I screwed up the face so I restarted, FINALLY got it right - sort of, yet still no banter. So I thought... hmm. Obviously I'm not in Skyhold and can't be bothered playing through a bugged playthrough just to get to a position where I can try the Val Royale workaround.

So I tried others, slept at camp, changed time/date to one day ahead. And hey, it worked, 3 random banters between Cass/Varric/Solas triggered while I was in the hinterlands. In fact one triggered straight after I did those two.

Still no news, I see.. I'm one of those many people who are waiting with playing the game until they can fully enjoy it - that is, have banter :( It's such a big part of the game...

Well, I got so annoyed about no banter on that playthrough that I decided to start again. Before I did that, I removed ALL saves from DAI save folder. Made a new character, started to hear some banter. Hopefully it will not stop.

Wait...change time/date? That´s new, I´ll try this......

Come on Bioware...

Wow so many months after release... this is still not fixed?! How is this getting so many awards when it's broken? Are these people even playing the game, or do they not even realize a huge part of the game is missing?!

There is something else I did but I didn't mention it and I wouldn't recommend it as I almost broke my game.

I tried moving the *.DAS saves around (since my silence was carrying between savegames). Cleaning up the saves so to speak.

It's been two months since release, I wouldn't call that "so many". Also, keep in mind that this issue simply does not occur for a lot of people. Sure, some may have the bug but won't notice, but my guess is there's more people that don't have the bug than people who do. Pretty much every major gaming website have run an item on the banter bug, and they pretty much all added that they had plenty of banter during their own playthrough.

Anyway, what seems to be sort-of working for me is only using auto-saves and always reloading from an auto-save after I enter a zone.

Because gaming journalists all (pretty much) played the game on PS4 or XboxOne, which are the only versions of DAI that were properly tested and QA'ed.

And they can't make noise about the banter bug, or others.

If they do the gaming websites will slowly loose advertising (=revenue) from Microsoft and EA, two multi-billion corporations, of which US gaming journalists are basically, indirect employees.  Not to mention the NDAs they or the sites signed. talk and loose your job.

Remember LA Confidential and Danny deVito's character?

Tested some more, seems the banter triggers most favorably when you've already been in an area for 15 minutes+. Immediate banter (upon arrival at a destination) seems to be rather rare, and has yet to happen on this playthrough.

Also since I got the banter working again so far, I decided to try some precautions based on other's observations. So far:

- Never back out of war table

- Always travel between zones via world exits

- Sleep at camp at least once in a zone

Banter has been consistent tonight with those precautions:

Number of banters between companions:

Storm Coast - 3 (1 hour )

Fallow Mire - 3 (1 hour )

Hinterlands - 5 (1 hour + )

Environmental comments were also triggered with no issues.

I don't see what PS4 or Xbox One have to do with anything, since the bug is also present on those systems.

Anyway, the point I was making was in reply to AstroCat's post questioning if the awarding parties played this game at all or didn't notice anything was missing. Lots of people do not have the banter bug (which I tried illustrating by referencing posts on gaming websites). So it makes perfect sense that this game would get awards, because for the majority (?) of players the experience is pretty much bug free.

Your remark on gaming journalist integrity is a different topic altogether :)

PS4 and Xboxone is where the money is, to put it simply.

These versions of the game are also the less buggy and more 'optimized' by far, according to (i) independent press, (ii) the number of people complaining on the Web, and (iii) the style of gameplay chosen for DAI.

This game was tailored for playing with a controller with a target audience being the younger US generation.

Lastly, legal agreements between Microsoft and EA makes it compulsory to get Microsoft approval before patching, and impose the 'unity of gameplay' or something between versions. Each version of the game must offer the same experience.

Source EA 10-K A (mandatory filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Bioware clearly stated they didn't find the banter to be a bug and they purposely spread the banter throughout the game so it doesn't happen as often as we are used to? Perhaps it is an underlying bug for some people that is too hard to catch and I miss the banter happening more often too, but I don't see how they could afford enough dialogue within their budget to constantly provide banter every 5-10 minutes.

Not exactly.  It's a Public Relations technique -or outrageous lie by omission if you prefer- imho.

On Youtube they are videos with sthg like 5-10 hours of banter. I got maybe 1h including all the banter (area, quest, story related, ambient comments) in a 120 hour playthrough, that with doing and trying all the workarounds on the Web.

I think but can't be sure that they finally acknowledged the bug after a young fan did all this work for them to compile all the workarounds and occurrences. Look for it on the forum if you're interested.

So, they got their PR and beta testing done for them and, of course, free of charge, basically, by fans.

Banter is what BW is rightly known for since BG 2 I think.  Imagine the uproar if they acknowledge the bug, or poor programming, after getting all these awards...

Im playing a PS4 version and i still have the banter bug , i know plenty in the same situation so i wouldnt say that the console version is "polished". No issues with the controls however.

Yup. Started Crestwood and played for more than 2h.

Got one banter between Cassandra and Blackwall.

It was maybe the 10th dialogue in total in my current playthrough. (~32h now into that one, PS4)

Had the same problem on PC.

Not working as intended, imo.

Just curious...

This might have been addressed elsewhere, but has anyone tried to find a connection of this bug with specific actions in game?

I'm on my 3rd playthrough, and this is the first time I've had this issue. I got through two complete playhthroughs with different races / classes / love interests with absolutely no problem.

Things I did differently this time:

- went through the mountains rather than storming the gate during the prologue

- sided with the mages

- romanced Blackwall

I have lost all motivation to finish the playhthrough. Such a bummer.

Banter works fine for me, but I have one small issue- on some companions romance banter (about Inquisitor's romance) is definitely bugged. Iron Bull and Cole are silent, but I'm certain that they have some comments about that. I think I exhausted their banter (Complete silence when they're in the party. With other companions- new conversation every 10-15 minutes). Still no romance stuff. Well, it's not a big problem, but ... :(

Maybe some small glitch keeps this type of banter locked for some companions?

I'm 60+ hours into my first play through, and I've hardly had any party chat. Maybe you're on to something? I went through the mountains and also sided with the mages.

I also had a quest repeatedly popping up as completed, over and over, from turning in supplies to the Dalish.

Well, I guess I got happy about the banter too early... For some reason I only had few banters between Blackwall and others. Without Blackwall in team, everyone are quiet :( Any kind of update from BioWare would be nice - especially knowing if the next patch will include banter fix.

Hm. Here are my choices in my PT's...maybe we find something.

1. PT - Human Female - 2H - Normal Mode - 115 hours = normal banter

- I fought with the soldiers

- Sided with the mages (conscripted them)

- Romanced Cullen

- All companions joined my party

2. PT - Human Male - Mage - Normal Mode - 80 hours = almost no banter

- Went through the mountain

- Sided with the mages (allied)

- Romanced Dorian

- All companions joined my party, except Vivienne & Sera

3. PT - Human Male - Mage - Hard Mode - 76 hours = banter was okay, in some areas as the emrald graves even perfect

- Fought with the soldiers

- Sided with the mages again (allied)

- Romanced Dorian again

- All companions joined my party, except Blackwall

4. PT - Female Elf - Mage - Nightmare Mode - 75 hours = banter was a nightmare

- Fought with the soldiers

- Sided with the Templars (allied)

- Romanced Cullen again

- All companions joined my party, except Iron Bull and Vivienne

5. PT - Female Elf - Mage - Hard Mode - 20 hours (because I wanted to test something) = almost no banter

- Fought with the soldiers

- Sided with the Templars (conscripted)

- Romanced Solas

- All companions joined my party, except Iron Bull, Blackwall and Vivienne

I about to roll another char today. Will see how my banter is this time. Gosh I hope it's good.

I am playing on the Xbox One version. The part about banter not repeating itself - this isn't true as I have certainly heard the same Banter spoken more then once. Particularly between Varric and Cassandra and Varric and Solas.

I wonder WHY more people like my post about BIOWARE's SILENCE on this thread, rather than an actual response from the company?  Could that be because they haven't patched this POS yet?  Is it easier to delete profiles and silence the truth?  I'm NOT going away.  Now you've pissed me off.
