Ok, after 3 more gameplays , I realized that only the penultimate member of the party banter .

Thus , the other two never talk with each other , and the banter takes too long.

And here comes the bioware and says it's not a bug ...

Seems to be random. Last playthrough I had a relatively quiet group (elf mage) until I got to hissing wastes. Then my party seemed to be talking with each other about every 5 minutes or so (dorian, bull & varric iirc), I switched members few times in camps and still they were chatting.

It's officially been two months I believe since the game came out. I still have yet to play it.

Does Bioware even read the forums?

Yes we do.

Here's an update on the upcoming patch 3 for PC.

Relevant for here is the following: "Based on feedback from our players, we tweaked the banter system to be less random in order to prevent extra-long periods of silence."

I can't comment on the release, but will provide future updates when possible.

This is good news on the banter department, from my testing I can't confirm the bug, but can definitely confirm the long silences and bad luck triggering the banter.

Looking forward to it!

Of course they fix the bug right as I finally get a playthrough that doesn't seem to have it. >.<

Is the patch going to be for consoles as well? we are affected by the banter bug too.

Patch is obviously coming to all platforms, though console players will probably wait bit longer since M$ and Sony need to test it before they release It.

That's an interesting thought. I almost always pick my companions in order: warrior(s)-rogue(s)-mage, and always bring Cass or BW, so they're always just below my Inquisitor in party order. Could explain why I rarely get banter, even when I change everyone else up.

I still won't get my hopes up banterwise since they said they only increased the chance of banter occuring. I hope I'm wrong and it's actually triggering every 10-20 minutes like some people have reported. I guess we'll have to try it and see for ourselves.

2 Banters in about 2 hours of gameplay now. Not sure if it's because my save is corrupted beyond repair or something else. I have music more reliably now, and party members have combat dialogue (ie. "Done and done", "That's one less to worry about"). I'm not sure if or how much it's fixed tbh. Here's to hoping tho

Used a PC save that had very little banter. Didn't have banter in the Hinterlands (~30 minutes in enemy-free terrority) but I had a comment from Vivienne during my 15 min. in Valamar. However, I had banter in the Crade of Sulevin, which has never happened before. Need to test more to see whether it's a bit better.

Rolled a new character and made it to the Hinterlands. I ran around killing things and talking to npcs for about 45 minutes and heard 3 remarks from companions about the mage-templar conflict after fights. No banter. Then I stopped for awhile in a quiet area and had a banter trigger quite soon after. The next happened 10 minutes after, then another 13 minutes after and the last one before I stopped playing 12 minutes after.

Do the environmental comments actually trigger the cooldown on the banter as well? Is the mage-templar war stuff considered as such? If so, that sucks, but it would explain the lack of banter during the first 45 minutes in the Hinterlands.

Regardless, I have to do some further testing later.

This might be the case. I was at the Storm Coast yesterday and had  2 or 3 environmental comments, but no banter. I decided I need something to eat and parked my party in a safe area and had 5 banter in the space of 30 minutes.

I'm waiting for more feedback so I can make an informed decision to upgrade or not.

I've had banter firing about as often as "normal," but that's fairly anecdotal since I haven't played a lot since 1.04 landed. The downsides to 1.04 are the aggravating changes to Object/Resource scanning. The ping's duration was extended in 1.03 (nice) and now flashes between yellow and enemy-red in 1.04 (not nice). I really dislike it.

Since I never saw any of the other bugs that this patch allegedly fixes (not claiming they don't exist, just I never had them), I'd be inclined to not update unless I was previously afflicted.

The only problem I'm having now, besides the bugs introduced with each subsequent patch (ugh), is performance issues (ironically also introduced in a patch -- patch2). The performance of DA:I is miserable on PC. I was running everything Ultra prior to patch2, and now nothing works smoothly unless I kill the second taskhost.exe (whenever it repops, which it does often because it's a native Windows function).
