Well, with patch 2 I am affected by the banter bug randomly, and from my tests with patch 2 I can't confirm if it's a bug or bad design, as I've had banter fire just when I thought I had the banter bug.

The problem is the long stretches of silence - hours after hours of silence, which hits at random. If the banter is more consistent in patch 3, then I may upgrade, as it turns out the walking mod + DAI_helper are not tied to patch version (also awaiting more feedback to make sure its stable)

I think everyone has had the long stretches of no banter at all, especially in the Western Approach (and to a lesser extent, the Exalted Plains, etc).

Yes, the patch is supposed to fix that, however, it will take time to test the consistency, I'll give a week myself for all you brave beta testers before I upgrade :)

I´m new here so don´t bash me.  :P

In my first playthrough, i had normal party banter at the beginning. Can confirm that since Cass and Varric were talking all the time in the Hinterlands. Then, when i started to advance in the game, the thingy started as well. No banter anymore. After the Patch 2 and with the magic of the "Go to Val Royeaux etc", i had some strange behave in the banter system. Sometimes was long and silent, sometimes my companions were bantering a lot, and, the weirdest, sometimes, when it was glitched or stucked or whatever, i had a strange solution: Go fight. After every fight, common fight, sealing rifts, some banter was triggered. And again, some hours into the game with my party talking, silence again, then banter again for some creepy unknown reason. Can say that is a lot of randomness in this thing. Now, gladly heard that the randomness seemed to be the problem for some people and Bioware got it. Downloaded the patch. Started playing. Not a single banter in 5-6 hours of gaming. Changed companions, changed places, changed... Meh. So, i´m a "little" confused and worried: Did the patch worked for those who had the problem cause of its randomness but broke it for those who had it for some other reason? Jesus, my head is a mess. Gonna play some more and pray for the best.

Btw, love you Bioware, and i know PC users, well, we are a pain in the ass sometimes. But not without any reason. Keep the good work! (And sorry if my english if it´s "buged", not a native english speaker) Much love.

I don't know if this will help at all, but I had to completely reset my computer for reasons I won't go into here. I had the party banter glitch, little to no music, they could go hours without talking etc... But since I've reinstalled DAI I've consistently gotten banter with Sera and Vivienne in my party (I rarely used Vivienne, they talked often during my jaunt into Emprise de Lion.) AND I have music...  So the problem isn't with the saves... but something else?

Played DAI for three hours with the new patch, but i'm not sure that the patch improved my banter. I was at the Fallen Mire for 1 1/2 hours and had exactly one conversation between Bull/Cass + four environmental comments (but I always have the environmental comments there). Then I went to the Forgotten Oasis and I had three banter between Dorian/Cass/Solas in one hour. Problem is, I never had the feeling that my banter is/was broken in my sixth playthrough (20 hours in the game = 29 banter + all the environmental comments i didn't count), so i can't vouch for the patch at the moment. Time will tell.

One more thing I have not thought of before:

Not only is my party banter broken most of the time, but also the banter between the advisors/companions/messengers. I always see them talking to Josephine, also in one of my playthroughs to Cullen, but never to Leliana and the rest of the companions.

Played one hour in the hinterlands in my new run. I've just recruited Sera and VIv from the capital and now I have Varric, Solas and Viv in my party. On hour in and no banter so far. I REALLY HOPE that this patch did not mess up the banter because with patch 2 they were talking a lot and now the  game feels totally lifeless without it...

Reports are floating around these forums that banter is now completely broken for some. Not a huge surprise since Bioware apparently don't test their stuff.

Second this. I always had josephine's messenger working, but didn't realize the other two had one!

Well, I had very sporadic banter pre patch 3. After the patch none at all for 4 hours. I did fix it but, it too doing a clean uninstall and reinstalling the game. 8 hour download, thank you EA (that is a fairly common EA thing in other PC versions of games, patch, clean uninstall, install THEN the fool patch works as intended.) It shouldn't have to be that way but, I do have banter, plenty of it until I exhausted it all for a region then, I get repeats of conversations but, no more comments on the surroundings. Beats silence but, there needs to be more possible convos so it doesn't repeat as often.

If you're still having audio/graphics/banter issues, I recommend trying the program Outcome to circumvent running Origin (Thanks to Danoniero for posting this in the other thread)

http://outcome.nofate.me/

Obviously it's hard to say whether it has an effect on banter, but it definitely fixed many audio stuttering and desyncing issues I've had since launch.

Rolled a new character and made it to the Hinterlands. I´ve got 5 banters in 67min.

Verric-Solas = 12 mins after arrive.

Verric-Solas = 23 mins

Verric-Solas = 11:28 mins

Verric-Cass = 9:50 mins

Solas-Cass = 11:28

I'll do more tests on nightmare mode which is where I had almost no banter with my female elf mage.

Here's the fun part: I did all the blood magic we have, plus some other voodoo, and had pretty good banter for 40 hours. Now it's dead silence again for the last five hours. You'll never f'in now when it strikes again, and i'm so tired of it.

Didn't help me with my mutes sadly, but it's still a very cool program, thx!

That's why I'm afraid to start my second playthrough. I don't want to waste dozens of hours only to drop everything when this bug surfaces. The game is unplayable for me if the banter isn't working.

I feel you. I've put aside two playthrough now just because of this one bug. I swear i don't even care for the rest of the bugs. But this one ruins the entire game.

They did not fix anything, they just increased a chance for banter to play. Point is they still did not reproduce the bug so they could just increase the % chance, now if there is really a banter bug and some of you have It than that fix won't solve any problem for you.

That's so flippin on the spot. Did they ever acknowledge it's a bug btw?

There is no bug that they've been able to find, and nobody has really ever managed to provide convincing evidence of one.

It's random by design. Perhaps aggressively (and sometimes unfairly) so, but it all seems to work correctly (apparently with a little less randomness now).

Not really. Half the playerbase has it and they all just repeat that they haven't been able to replicate it. Well, great, but yeah, it's there. I've had it since day 1, and a lot of other people have. I appreciate the efforts of "increasing the chance of it happening" but that really doesn't fix anything. And since patch 3 messed things even worse, it really didn't accomplish much for now :<

 If you don't have it you can't find it.

Simple try to leave the war room via fast travel. That generally sorts it.

Except it is just as unreliable as all the other voodoo-workarounds for it. I don't claim to understand how the programming works for it, but from my own personal experience, it just doesn't .
