It takes my banter about 30 mins out of combat in a zone to engage. Once it does, it fires about every 10 mins with environmental remarks between. I don't avoid fast travel, clear logs or anything, just play the game. It should work playing how you want, if it doesn't then , it still needs work.

I think the initial time for the banter to begin needs lowered, to perhaps 5 mins out of combat, then, if it triggers as mine does after that, it would be ideal.

If I have fast traveled before - does that mean it's broken now? Can I reload where I am and not fast travel and have thing go back to normal? or would I have to conceivably load back to before I ever fast-traveled?

It would be great to actually hear something again.

Also... Is there music in this game? Upon entering levels I'll hear a brief intro but then nothing just ambient sounds and me running. The only other time music happens is during scripted missions.

I used to fast travel and since I stopped my banter is regular, try to leave your party in a calm area (I stood near the camp in lake Luthias in the Hinterland) for about 30 minutes or until you ear some banter, then play the game normally and check how often banter occurs, for my first try I went to a cleared area with almost no more ennemies to be sure to avoid combat.

Same for me since I experimented with the timer thing, althought now it takes only around 10 minutes for banter to occur after loading the game or entering an area.

Can't say if it's something I did or if the timer kind of reset itself, anyway it seems that we have as many different occurences of the bug as we have players reporting here. The codex and journal workaround never did anything for me.

Go figures

Does changing party members reset the banter timer back down to 0?

Like if I waited those 30 min, banter is good, then I switched characters. Would banter still be good? or would I have to wait another 30 min for it to start working again?

I'm gonna try without fast traveling, however... In my latest playthrough, I fast travelled for 25 h with nice and regular banter, after skyhold - zip. But, if not fast traveling helps....

In my experience not, it need about 10 minutes after a change of party.

Then again, it seems there is no one way. I got the game on both Xbox360 and PC and on Xbox360(still on Patch 2) I 've got a much more irregular banter (like 3 in a 5 minutes row and then nothing for 40 minutes) and the emptying codex/journal ritual seems to help, whereas on PC (Patch 3 and 4) I now got a regular banter every 10-15 minutes.

Another tidbit: I only played pc so far, today I started an X1 playthrough. With 6 hours in, hinterlands only, I had more banter than ever before in the pc version. Let's see how this goes in other regions and after skyhold...

You know all this damn uncheck this..no fastravel...and other blood magic is BS...

Seriously cant we just play the damn game and here banter???

This topic is on top of most forums yet EA and bioware are silent...

Its a shame that they continue to leave this stain
On an otherwise great game..

Banter should fire every 5 min regardless....

After Patch 3, PC. Offline, performed the "clear journal and codex" ritual.

Before Skyhold banter was pretty decent. I ran mostly with Sera, Solas and Vivienne.

Then Crestwood, Sera, Blackwall, Dorian, all zone was 4-5 banters. Companions often commented on the quests and environment though.

Then Western Approach. Sera, Vivienne and Bull (never used him before). I tried to avoid fast travel as much as possible. All zone - 2 banters between Bull and Vivienne. That's it.

Exalted Plains. Sera, Dorian and Bull. Used fast travel between camps. They finally started talking and banters fired regularly.

What gives? Is this blood magic?

At this point, I would rather have "fire banter at will" button. Don't care if it's unrealistic.

I also have constant drums in Skyhold and no armor sound (did not even know about it). Ugh.

Banter does gradually decrease as the game goes on. That, I believe, is because it won't repeat. Honestly I'd rather hear beginning banter again late game than longer periods of silence though I do enjoy the running chess game with Iron Bull and Solas late game. I've found that switching party members at camps dopes not reset the banter time and, it helps after 2-3 quests to do so if you want more banter.

I do fast travel within a zone once I get banter going, it seems unaffected. Of course leaving the zone resets it and, it take a bit to get it going again. I've also found that doing a quest that requires remarks form a party member kicks it off faster. Cole is great for that, he remarks a lot on helping people and, that seems to get the others talking.

Guys, guys, are you even serious? All this rituals, dark magic, standing and waiting in place for 10 hours... There is no way that "unchecking codex" or "avoiding fast travel" is actually working. It's pure luck and thats it. Like how on the Mother Teresa's hat are those activities connected with "banter frequency code"?

You are all just like "I will spin around and spit three times behind left shoulder and banter will fire". Is this some medieval witchcraft or a game that we paid and WANT to enjoy but we CAN"T because EAWare said that they "already fixed!" it and move to creating DLC's for 20€?

Not really witchcraft at this point....most people just uncheck the codex and don't save or something. Raging isn't going to get us banter any faster than "witchcraft"

My banter is still working and I actually might have an idea why.

I used this save game editor from Nexus for my current Inquisitor (I forgot to set the lip shine to zero). While I was browsing through the comments I've found someone (on page one or two) who said, that his banter bug was gone after he edited (+ import) his save game and that the banter occurs every 10-20 minutes now. Other people tried it too and voila - their banter bug is gone too. Same with my bug.

It's worth a shot if you have the bug on PC. But I don't know if it works if you're 100+ hours in your current pt.

Edit: Just to show you how often my banter occurs now. I started the game at 5:45 and traveled to the Storm Coast (first time in this pt)

06:05 - first banter Dorian/Solas

06:16 - banter Solas/Cassandra

06.28 - banter Dorian Cassandra

06:41 - banter environmental comment

06:55 - banter Dorian/Solas

07:12 - banter environmental comment

Finished Storm Coast and started the Fallen Mire at 07:18

07:34 - first banter Dorian/Blackwall
07:59 - banter Sera/Blackwall
08.12 - banter environmental comment
08:29 - banter Dorian/Blackwall

Finished the Fallen Mire

Hi all After 700 hrs and 20 playthroughs I thought I would try blood magic and see if it would work here is what I did.

Reinstalled the game

Created a female elf mage loaded the game then went offline in game and orgin.

Never fast traveled using warmap  or fast travel period.

Only used map exits

Cleared all codex quest and items markers.

Got to hinterlands and parked for 15 min...First banter fired  Cassandra/solas

Cleared crossroads got quests cleared bandits and grabbed solas's artifact and grabbed camp near dragon, 2nd Banter Solas/Veric

Went to get Viv and Sera and bull.

Returned to hinterlands with sera Cassandra solas. waited 15 min banter fired sera /solas.  Cleared Templar and mage strongholds banter fired about every 15 to 20 min.

Since doing this nonsence I have heard more banter than I have in any other playthrough.

Its BS but since bioware is silent we must devise own solution,, its a pain but hell ill do it just to hear my companions,

So in summory..

Never use the war map or fast travel MAP EXIT only

Clear all codex and inventory markers

clear all quests and war table markers

wait like and idiot for 15 min for first banter to fire in a new area camp then quest.

I just finished hinterlands and had maybe 15 banters that's the most I have ever gotten.

Now with that said

Lets all collectively Use Blood Magic on the bioware Devs so that they will take this issue seriously and address or fix this issue all this nonsence just to get the game to play as intended is ridicules

But in the mean time I hope this helps

Hey, i downloaded the editor and i guess i pressed some buttons around. Seems like i did get a couple banters because of it. Can you please retrace what you did on your save with the editor, and post it here? Also have you tried it pre-Skyhold or post?

If I didn't get repeats, I'd have hardly any banter at all.

That said, I AM noticing some slightly increased banter frequency after doing the journal/codex cleanup. Which is very odd, to say the least.

It's sad to see people doing blind QA and even involving superstition to try and get around this issue.  Bioware should be doing more to work with the community about this.

Sure. Here is what I did step by step:

- Download DAI CLI Save Editor + DAISaveChunkEditor

- back up your save games

- make a copy of your original save and put both programms + the save into the same folder

- drag & drop the save onto the das.editor

- enter Option 1 - Export values to file and hit ok/enter on your keyboard

- open the DAISaveChunkEditor and browse for [filename].DASFACE

- then I edited the Lip Shine from 0.500 to 0.000 and saved the file

- drag & drop the SAME save as before onto the das.editor

- enter Option 2 - import values from file and hit ok/enter on your KB

- enter the [filename].DASFACE name without the .DASFACE (i.e. if you file name is DAI1.DASFACE all you need to enter is DAI1)

- now you get a new save file named [filename].DAS.NEW

- delete the .NEW and copy and paste the save game into your DAI savegame folder and overwrite your old save game with it

I did all of that after the first intro cut scene. I don't know if it works post-haven. Maybe I'll try it with an old char after I'm done with my current inquisitor.

Like I said, my banter works fine now and my armour sound is back after I travel from the war table. On top of that I have the feeling that the people in Haven talk a lot more. Sometimes I saw a person standing in front of Seggrit, Adan, Minaeve or the Requisition Lady and heared not a peep, now they always talk.
