PS4 here - since the last patch I'm definitely getting almost zero banter, where I used to get more. Really sucks. I may just leave this PT alone until they resolve it, I'm not that far in.

Have been using the cheat engine fix with no repeats (so far, but i've literally never had repeat banter so I think it's something you either do or don't get.) It works great and I haven't had it happen yet where it just spouts banter endlessly like some people have said....
this mod has probably added 40 hours of gameplay for me lmao. Which is sad, but makes me happy.

One note on Mods:
Bethesda uses an In-house engine for their games, which means that they can choose wether or not to release modding tools.
Bioware (at least currently) is using someone else's engine. They might not have a choice in the matter.
So the two companies can't really be compared atm. Bethesda has a choice, Bioware might not (and might make their own engine later, given these results).
As for me personally, I will finish my first playthru before using any mods. I only broke this rule in Skyrim because I couldn't get past the "botched" beheading at the begining (Live Another Life was installed).

I have very weird issue with banter.
I've got Dorian, Cole and Iron Bull in my party. After 20 hours of normal banter they just won't talk to each other (only environment comments), but I'm certain there's many other conversations between them that hasn't triggered yet. Changed party members- banter works perfectly (for example- Dorian will speak to almost everyone except IB and Cole).
What happened to them? Do I need to make some main quests to fix the banter (it is really broken, or it was intentional?) Anyone ever had the same problem?

Click on the link above and you'll find the Cheat Engine banter mod
- Download the CE 64bit version
- After you've install it, open DAI and load the game
- Open cheatengine-x86_64 and then the banter table in it
- After that click on the little computer icon and open the DragonAgeInquisition.exe and hit yes when asked if you want to keep the table
- Go back into your game and click num1 or num8 (depending on the table you are using)
P.S.: If you already knew all this I'm sorry. I just want to help
How about... using autohotkey, and then program it to hit num8 every 10~15 minutes? (Of course, some beta testing will be needed for the case let's say... autohotkey hits num8 during a cutscene, for example)

- Download the banter fix here
- Download the Cheat Engine 64bit version here
- Install Cheat Engine as you would install every other programm
- After you've installed CE, open DAI and load a save game
- Open cheatengine-x86_64.exe (from your Cheat Engine folder)
- Click on the folder button (or File --> Open File) in CE and search for your banter fix and open it
- After that click on the little computer icon (or File --> Open process) and open the DragonAgeInquisition.exe and hit yes when asked if you want to keep the table
- Go back into your game and click num1 or num8 (depending on the table you are using and make sure you're in an area where there is banter, like the Hinterlands/Crestwood/Emprise)

I am definitely getting much less banter now on my PS4 since the patch (haven't tried out my Xbox One yet but it will probably be the same). I played this past weekend for 3 hours straight and they bantered TWICE! I didn't have that problem before this latest patch. I was getting banter every 10-20 minutes or so.
This saddens me cause I wanna play so much but I want my banter! ![]()
I was getting so frustrated at the lack of talking, I had to switch over to Dragon Age 2...they are chatty in that game and I love it.

Yup. For Realz.
yup 100% works and i haven't had any issues yet.
Played in the hinterlands for 1 hour and got 2 or 3 banters i had never heard in 250 hours o playtime...and i only pressed the button once every 5 minutes or so.

So some.... "mortal" modders found a way to fix the issue, but the creators of the game are clueless ? Isn't this a bit strange ? ![]()

I've just had a look on youtube and I can't believe the banter I've been missing, especially at Skyhold between the advisors and 'runners'. I've only encountered strange snippets in Josephine's office where the runner then exits through the walls. Disappointed to say the least and would explain why I'm getting some disconnect between the characters.

I'm having the same problems as many others, apparently. After patch 4 my game went dead silent. Hardly any music cues play, and I've gotten zero party banter since the update. Not on any map, not with any combination of characters, nothing. The change was drastic and immediate after patching.

But it truly saddens me that Bioware is silent and not rushing out s fix
This games foundation is companion interaction and such a vital part is broken yet we have heard nothing since nov from bioware..
Truly sad

I know Conal has poked his head in here occaisionally, but is there a way to directly inform Bioware of the findings from this mod? (ie Banter doesn't always fire when the counter hits 0 and it never fires in the Western Approach, even when forced?)
Forgive me if someone else convered this, but do we know for sure banter is supposed to fire every time the counter hits zero (barring combat or whatever)? We know it's supposed to be random, but is the randomness supplied by the counter time (every time it hits 0, it resets to a random number) or is the timer set and the game randomly determines whether or not to fire banter when it hits 0? If it's supposed to be the latter, then this mod proves it's working as expected (though the RNG is apparently too stingy on the firing and should be adjusted.) If it's supposed to be the former, then something is most definitely broken.
ETA: Aside from the WA, of course, which is broken regardless.

Combat, talking to an NPC, fast traveling, mounting, being in Skyhold, NPC talking even if you don't respond all stop banter and reset the timer to a new random number so, with all of that, I can see why it rarely actually reaches zero and fires banter. The easy fix for Bioware would be to change the NPC and combat resets to simple timer pauses so that it would resume counting down from where it left off rather than choosing a new random number to start from.

People using the "community banter fix", what happens if you hit the "banter now" (num8 ?) button in the middle of a cutscene?
I ask because I'm trying to create a script for autohotkey so it automatically keeps hitting num8 at a random interval between 10 and 15 minutes ![]()

Interesting! I'm using Cheat Engine. It's working perfectly, but some banters won't trigger no matter what (comments about Inquisitor's romance from two companions). Tested Cheat Engine on my 3 Inquisitors, on different saves (romanced the same companion on every playthrough) and still nothing. I need to hear them! My only hope- reinstalling the game.
I'm curious what caused this issue.
