Combat, talking to an NPC, fast traveling, mounting, being in Skyhold, NPC talking even if you don't respond all stop banter and reset the timer to a new random number so, with all of that, I can see why it rarely actually reaches zero and fires banter. The easy fix for Bioware would be to change the NPC and combat resets to simple timer pauses so that it would resume counting down from where it left off rather than choosing a new random number to start from.

Combat and fast travel don't reset my banter. But 4 out of 5 times I don't get banter when the timer hits zero, with or without banter trigger (no enemies or NPC near me and a lot of banter left).

Just thought I would add some thoughts to the Community Fix on Party Banter.. Im at 900hrs of game playtime through many playthroughs.  I have posted many times here about terrible banter issues through all patches... Yet SILENCE From Bioware.

Thanks to the community I have tried and am using CE and the Banter Mod on a new playthrough.  Here is my experience at 3 hrs into a new game.

I have heard 16 Banters between solas, Cassandra and varrick, before even reachin the crossroads.. Banter I have never heard in 900hrs of playtime.

Amazing how the game truly comes to life as your companions come to life,

How Bioware cannot see the importance of this issue in the style of game that Bioware Stands For I/E  Mass Effect and DAO is beyond me.

but I can confirm that as was described above in a previous post the installation was easy and the effect was immidiete!!!

I Give Praise to the Community who Devoloped this Banter mod fix

And Call Shame to the BIOWARE Devs for doing nothing.

I will keep you posted on my experience on this 27th playthrough.

I don't know about fast travel but since the latest patches, I noticed that battles seem to trigger banters more for me. Just completed Crestwood and I had only one freaking banter during 2 hours of gameplay that was triggered after a battle and BW said he was sorry for Solas losing his friend.. I don't want to use the cheat engine, but it seems I have no choice.

The game is absolutely unbearable with that dead silence when exploring. The most frustrating aspect of this issue is that you know that you have 3 people with you that are supposed to TALK, and you even try out interesting party combinations just to see what are they gonna chat about, but no.... I got some banter with the default party(sol, varr, cass) in the Hinterlands, but ever since I recruited everyone it's slowly getting very silent on the field. The more varied your party is, the more they seem to shut up. Iron Bull, Sera, Dorian in one party ? forget it.... <_<

I'm surprised Bioware is not bothered by this bug since they seem to have recorded like 5 hours of banter.... yes, 5 hours. I would go berserk. I really hope they fix this once and for all.

I know why whe get more banter in the Hinterlands than in all the other areas. The banter value is between 0 and 900 sec. In the Hinterlands i get a countdown between 70 and 200 sec for the next banter to trigger, after it hits zero the first time. Not always, but very often. In other areas, like the Emerald Graves or Hissing Wastes, it starts around 700 or 800 sec after a reset. And if we take in account that the banter is triggered only every third or fourth time, then it makes sense that we have less banter as the game progresses. Which su**s

Edit: It makes also sense, that combats seems to trigger it, because the countdown continues while fighting and when it hits zero it stays there until you leave combat.

Edit2: There is definitely repeatable banter. I had it in all my playthroughs, but only in the Hissing Wastes. I finished my seventh pt yesterday and triggered banter via the fix like a crazy person, so I could hear it all. After the banter was exhausted I got the same banter over and over from Varric and Dorian...in the Hissing Wastes. (I'm not complaining)

So... why is it so hard to make it work as intended ? Isn't it a shame for those hours of recorded banter ? They certainly add to the gaming experience and not having them is absolutely terrible.

I find it strange that a team of modders are able to find the cause... it should not have been their job to fix it.

I'm using CE to fix the banter, I had some before but, now they never shut up. Even if it repeats, that beats hours of silence, especially in Hissing wastes.

You bet. It's such a chore to play a melee character in Inquisiton though on PCs. Ram hunting... oh my. Trying to close a rift while tanking... oh my. Trying to rely on your companions for tactical support... oh my. However, I am determined to do it. I want my second playthrough to be the exact opposite of my sad, merciful mage. Now, I'm a jackboot and going to make things happen with my hack and slash tactics.

If it's constantly going make sure you don't have the activate square marked...i know someone posted it earlier but some may have missed it. I did that the first time i activated and it kept repeating but since then it's only gone off once without me pressing it. (I do press it often though.)

I know, i prefer to hear repeats over nothing. To me if a group is walking around, like walking down the road near my home, they chat while they walk unless there is a reason to be silent. I'd rather they sound like annoying, repetitive kids than not talk but 2-3 times per hour. :)

That makes sense :). I really do think it would be awesome if there were certain extended banter pieces that were a minute or two but that might be hard with all the interfering things in the open world.

I know, I loved my DW in DA2, he was one of my cannons. DAI is mage turf for me as I dislike playing archers. All we really need is auto attack nearest target if an ability is activated, that would solve a lot of the melee headache.

I switch to Solas for ram hunting with my melees. Freeze.. watch the others run after ram.... fun for all the kiddies. Less annoyance for me.

I have never before (that I'm aware of) had issues with banter firing, but I have noticed today a decided drop in banter since the game autoapplied patch 4 because I had to in order to start a new Keep import (enforced update on what is essentially a hotfix for 2 items that did not affect me or my game and has apparently broken something that wasn't broken for me before. Not cool, Bioware). Nothing out of the Hinterlands, in fact, on a newish playthrough.

CE looking very tempting atm--I don't normally apply mods until all of the "official" patches are out (because having to update/reinstall, blah blah truly shytes me), but in this case, I'm going to make an exception. I can't look at those damned pjs any more, and if patch 4 broke my banter, which it seems it has? Grr.

HELL YES. By the way, you and a few others should contact Bioware about applying for a job as a technical support or programming aide of some sort. I don't know the technical term (hence I am not applying), but maybe as a part-time gig.

Okay stupid question:

I know how to use CE and I want to use the banter cheat but for some reason all my attacks are triggered using the numlock pad. idk  how to stop it as I didn't even set it up to do this.  I've never used the numlock hotkeys with CE before. Is there anyway to stop my attacks from using the numlock pad? I tried key binding and it didn't work. :(

Go to CheatEngine Hazegurl and remap it. Using right click on the red text will drop a menu and I believe it can be changed using CTRL + H

The team did try, you have to give them some credit at least, though it seems most of the team has moved on to other projects leaving post-release support understaffed.

If anything they should use this mod as another way to attempt to isolate the issue - especially considering their own methods apparently failed to duplicate the bug.

I'll give this mod a whirl and report my findings once 1.2 of Greentea's mouselook/mouse button rebinding mod is released.

Just here to report. I used the CE banter mod. I'm happy to report that in areas with reported banter (ie Hinterlands) gives lots of banter. I just walked from camp to camp pressing the hot key, then I would switch companions, usually trading one or two, then I heard more banter. What's interesting is that I went to the Western Approach, a place I had zero banter at all. The hotkey didn't work there, BUT I got three, THREE party banters! I also got more environmental dialogue I've never heard before and I didn't think I had any issues with environmental dialogue in WA.

I had my usual party of Cole, Varric, and Dorian. When we reached the cage near that tunnel, I would usually get a comment about who or what killed them. But that was it. But this time Cole says something, then Varric mentions that something weird is happening as only GWs should be in the area. :o

The banter fix is the only thing that has worked for me and this is on an established character that has already reached Skyhold.

Bethgael, CE is patch-proof, savegame-friendly and I've been using it since the walking mod. In fact, I plan to stick to patch 2 until EA fixes this game, maybe in 2016 I'll update.
