But the funny thing is that banter probability should not be based on reading codex logs. I dont believe the banter system is tied to the codex's. Who knows? I don't how the system was created.

Back when this behaviour was first discovered there was speculation that it's some kind of memory leak or an event gets clogged up that keeps banter from firing. When you clear out codex or journal entries, you'll notice that you get popups like "Codex updated: xxx" or the quest tracker will trigger (with the accompanying sound). On some quests, this happens by itself but sometimes it will only do that when you manually trigger it, so something is broken there for sure. How, no one knows.

Nothing for Party Banter in the new patch, but, hey, at least they fixed a "loot exploit". Good job, BioWare.

It's a shame they banter so little in the game since the lines they've recorded are quite entertaining. I had one between Varric and Dorian where the former accused the latter of being prissy or something of the sorts, and he rebuked his accusation by stating that no one has peeled him grapes for a long time. I had a good laugh from that one. I can only imagine how many delightful lines I'm missing because they rarely speak. At least give us the option to raise or lower the amount of banter between them. That way we can reduce it if things become to repetitive.

Thanks for the tips about the journal and inventory, I'll try that too if banter appears thin. It seems like 2-3 per hour is running as intended; perhaps it would run out too quickly if it were more frequent (it seems to me personally that it might be *too* chatty, if having too much banter is possible  :lol: ).

 

I've never actually timed it. It feels like a lot longer than 30mins per banter. But I'm sure there's a difference between how much time I feel has passed and how much has actually passed. I should sit down will a timer some time.

Wish it could be sorted out for the PS4, party banter has lessened for me with each patch, I can now play for an hour or more with  banter at all no matter who is in my party. :(

Some people on Reddit are posting that patch 5 "fixed" their banter problems (link 1, link 2).  Has anyone here seen any improvement?  I've been doing some testing (on PC) and so far, no improvement.  I still get zero banter.  
 
Aaaaand ... literally as I was typing this, I just heard banter between Dorian and IB.  I was in the Storm Coast.  I have had zero banter in the storm coast since patch 4 (whereas before patch 4, I had regular banter there).  I'm testing by standing around in the first Inquisition camp with a group that I've never used together (Blackwall, Bull and Dorian), to eliminate any question of banter being exhausted.  
 
Still, I wouldn't consider my banter "fixed."  This is the first and only banter I've heard in almost an hour of testing.  Might just be a coincidence.

Also, thank you so much for all of your hard work on the CE banter fix, Nu Titan!  It's made a tremendous difference in my enjoyment of the game.

I've played a little yesterday without the CE Table and had quite a lot of banter in those 2 hours, but I'm not sure if that means it is fixed.

Some people are reporting an improvement in party banter since the patch. They probably didn't try to fix banter, but some of the changes they made might have inadvertently fixed the issue for some people.

I just ran around the Storm Coast for a while (30-60 minutes) with no banter, on a save where I've played 10+ hours since 1.4 and gotten only one or two instances of non-scripted banter. At this point, I wish there was just some information as to what the problem was. I'm on a save I've been working for a few months, so would it being made prior to patch 1.4 affect anything? Are certain areas beyond Haven and Val Royeux not intended to work with party banter, like the Western Approach? Is this really tied to the codex/journal unread entries, and if so, how do you make sure that clearing them up is actually helping? So many questions, so little actual information.

 

I hope this gets resolved soon. I'd be playing this a lot more if I could hear more of the party dialogue instead of running around in total silence.

That's been my experience.  On the (PC) save I've been slowly working on since launch, patch 4 broke my banter.  Patch 4 also broke banter on a PS4 save that I made after patch 2.  I've tried a couple of new characters since patch 4, though, and they've all had normal banter so far.

That's unfortunate. I guess I'll need to roll a new character then. I still wish that there was more info from BioWare on what should be done post 1.4 to trigger banter, but thanks for the heads up!

I've started a new game and noticed a marked improvement. Even before leaving the Hinterlands I've gotten a bunch of banters between Cass, Varric and Solas which I've never heard before. And they all seemed like they were intended for early-game too, so I don't think they've gotten ahead of the story.

I have read (somewhere) that the banter is not supposed to trigger when enemies are around or during fights and yet my banter does this quite often.  I am not complaining but if the statement is true (re: triggering criteria) there is indeed something quite odd at work in that system.  

 

Its kind of "funny" and rather odd listening to a two way banter, typically centering on the sarcastic, in the middle of a (supposedly) life and death fight with demons.
