I am really tempted to take advantage of the 24 hour return period on this game because of the craptastic PC controls.  I'm so sick and tired of games being designed for consoles and then half arse ported to work on the PC as well.  PC is the ultimate gaming platform plain and simple, games should be created there and ported to the console not the other way around.  Ok so that last bit is purely opinion, but still you could have put more effort into making this game enjoyable to play on the PC.

Don't get me wrong the game in it's first few hours that I have played so far seems great.  The world is beautiful.  A bit overwhelming even because the zones are so massive and so busy with very little guidance.  That is very good but a little more guidance like Skyrim would be welcome.

However, the quirky character movement really kills it for me.  I always enjoy playing a duel wield rogue but I absolutely hate playing one so far in DAI.  The slow acceleration and deceleration of characters, plus the pause after stopping attacking before you can move, not to mention the inability to re-position easily while actively attacking allow enemies to simply walk away from your attacks, it's very infuriating as a melee character.  Oh and let's not overlook this simplistic target locking system and when an enemy dies unexpectedly and your twin fang causes your character to suddenly tear off in another direction because the target switched.

Further, no quick loot all key like the 'R' in dragon age 2.. ugh!!  And while we are on the subject of looting the complete pain of even looting objects because of the quirky character acceleration and deceleration.  Right clicking doesn't auto move to and interact with an object so we are stuck tapping forward to try and get into the correct position.. omg /slitwrists.  I seriously have already started ignoring a lot of lootable objects like iron and drake stone because it is so tedious to stop running position myself close to them and pick them up.  Then even further there is no item comparison when looting... I mean come on, if we had unlimited inventory space I wouldn't care, but when you are out adventuring and don't want to take the time to return to a merchant to dump a bunch of crap gear it would be really nice to see if something is worth picking up BEFORE picking it up *sigh*.

I find myself trying out a mage because of the horrible experience I'm having as a duel wielding rogue but now I'm just getting bored.  Oh look there is an enemy WAYYYY over there.  Tab -> hold R -> oh it's dead before it got here *yawn*....  Seriously??  The range for mages is way to far.  But even more important forcing the need to hold R or the left mouse button is simply stupid.  I mean who that was working on the development of this game actually thought this was a good idea?  I just can't phathom how anyone could think holding a single button in for autoattack would be in any fun or entertaining.  Dragon Age 2's combat system was much much better.  And I know what some people are going to say, that simply auto attacking is even less engaging.  Well that is true in a way... but in Dragon Age Origins or 2 when you auto attacked you then focused on doing other things with your character.  Positioning correctly, or switching targets if needed, things like that.  It allowed you to focus more on the entire battle instead of focusing on holding down a key to attack a single mob.

And then a few notes on things not control related.  Please give us a approval / disapproval meter somewhere.  It's very annoying not easily knowing if a character mostly approves of you or not.  I haven't gotten to any parts really consequential with that yet but seeking out a romance with someone that hates me and then getting discouraged because the one I picked for my characters romantic attraction is inaccessible to me due to choices made long ago in the game is not something I look forward to.

Also the entire inventory and character interface system is just bad...  Again here we can clearly see the roots of this game being designed for consoles rather than PC.

I really hope you release an update to address these PC control issues soon because as it stands right now I'm ready to quit playing the game due to them :(

EDIT:

Oh I forgot to add one of my other huge disappointments with DAI.  No longer being able to assign attribute points myself but having the game auto assign them.. :(  If I want to give my rogue all cunning for a few levels to make it easier to open up locks and such and skimp on dex then that is what I want.  I don't need the stupid game deciding for me how my attribute points are spent.  That is a severe drawback in DAI for character customization compared to previous DA games.
