So I initially romanced Dorian and saw that all the way through. Then I grew bored of him and decided I wanted to break it off and pursue a romance with Iron Bull instead because he's more the type of guy I'd date in real life. Sooooo I did Demands of the Qun, have flirted with him at every opportunity, exhausted all possible discussions to the point that the only option I have is "Goodbye" when I try to talk to him, have taken him to kill three dragons, etc. For some reason, Tough Love will not trigger. It's driving me crazy.

 

What am I doing wrong? Why wont it trigger?

I'm not sure what I can tell you... I flirted with Blackwall a little bit, but I went after Bull for my main romance. It takes time to get him to that point, so you have to be very patient. Taking him to the Hissing Wastes and killing Venatori for a while might help a bit...

I guess I'll try that. I've built up a good amount of approval from him already, way more than what was required with Dorian. I'm wondering if having a previous romance is what's holding things up. I dunno, but it's frustrating.

So I pretty much cleared the Hissing Wastes, and still nothing. I also been doing other things to earn his approval... still no trigger for Tough Love. This is driving me crazy and starting to make me mad. Does anyone else have any insight? Could it be a bug?

Make sure you're not in a romance with anyone else. Some of the companions have options to start a romance.  If you're getting no flirt options you're in a romance with someone else.

And take him to kill a dragon.

he does have a bit of a dry spell to work through for approval, but after 3 dragons you should be fine... I would check to make sure you really broke it off for your last romance.

I was in a romance with Dorian but we broke up. The option to rekindle it is still there but I haven't accepted it. He's been on 4 dragon kills. It should also be noted that I have flirt options available with several of the women, but not him. Only thing available when I speak to him is Goodbye. :-/

did you make any decision that got a lot of disapproval? well, one quick and easy way to get some good approval from him is to race the tracks the stable girl in the hinterlands sets up for you. she's by the barn where you get your first horse. you can try that out to see if it's just more approval you need. you can do 3 races and get normal amounts of approval each time.

Depends on where you are in the story. Certain romance missions are only available once you pass a certain threshold in the main story.

Maybe I haven't advanced the main plot enough. I've been resisting advancing it because from what I gather it's not very long. I'm at the part where you find the warden.

You still have a ways to go. Plus, after each main plot mission you need to rebuild up your power, so it takes awhile to complete the main story no matter what. Not sure if you can start the romance before that mission. I think you can, but I started it afterwards. I think right afterwards.

If you're set on riding the Bull be prepared for a long slow siege, the same thing that you're going through happened to me, so by the time I got romantic dialogue and scene with him there was tears of joy. My advice be patient, stick with it and eventually you'll get there.- it never happened for me until after Haven and I'd killed quite a few dragons too and done demands of the Qun.

Yeah, haha. I remember thinking I was failing to initiate the romance for a good long time... and since it was so early after the release nobody really had any answers for me. Bull, you have high standards!

The scene better be worth it! I'm sensing I'm probably going to be disappointed though because I prefer a Alistair-like romance and I don't think Iron Bull is going to be a romantic like that. I wish a male could romance Cullen, but alas.

Got a cutscene with him where I hit him with a stick and flirted with him after advancing the main plot, but unfortunately still no Tough Love quest. :'(

The scenes in his romance get progressively more romantic. I was pretty satisfied with the feels by the ending lol.

 

I suggested the racing thing to another member on here and they were able to do the romance after that approval boost. So that's still something you could try. His romance scene just requires tons of approval for some reason.

I hear you! I wanted Cullen, and if not Cullen, then Blackwall, and if not Blackwall, then Solas. That... did not go well 

 

But I'm just beginning Bull's romance and it's very nice. Very cute. I think you will feel at least a little bit satisfied (I know for me personally I'll never be completely happy b/c I'm too let down and disappointed, but so far Bull truly is great.)

Yes, I got that, too Just keep working on his approval. I also got nothing but "goodbye" after that cut scene.

I am that member, and you should listen to Chernaya This is how it happened for me:

 

Recruiting the mages earned me "greatly disapproves." Therefore I had to really work to earn his approval back. I did the following...

 

Recruited the Wardens ("greatly approves")

Kill Venatori (lots of "slightly approves")

Complete "Demands of the Qun" (I believe this earns you some approval but I forget)

Win all three races (three "approves")

 

And BOOM I finally triggered a romance scene back at Skyhold.

I'm wondering if I've maxed out his approval or something. I just killed the Hissing Wastes dragon, no approval notification. I won all three races, no approval notifications. This is feeling hopeless lol

I have a question. I started the romance with Bull and got the bedroom scene but at the end Bull didn't even acknowledge my inquisitor and I've heard ppl say Bulls romance was cute/funny at the end. After the bedroom scene I started getting Bulls disapproval alot not trying to, could that have ended the romance? But if there's a break up its usually pretty obvious. I'm just wondering what happened I feel I only got half of Bulls romance. :/ tho on the other hand I just finished a romance with Cullen and I love, love, love, love, LOVED it

There's a Dorian AND Iron Bull romance? This is possible, I was flirting with Iron Bull while still with Dorian. Could it be stuck in limbo because I started that and broke up with Dorian?

They get together, but I was under the impression that they didn't do that if you had a romance with either of them.

 

I would guess that isn't the problem but it triggers through banter between them (I think?) so maybe something like that happened?

So I just killed Vinsomer and again, no approval gains from Iron Bull. I'm beginning to wonder if my game is bugged. :-/

When I did this the first go around - I romanced him SO fast. I think it was before any major plot after skyhold too and I was able to get the first sex scene with him.

 

Now, nothing. In fact, he keeps mentioning other women around skyhold he's slept with. Wtf...that just makes it worse. I'm really hoping my game isn't bugged...it's incredibly frustrating. My first game was bugged and I couldn't talk to Dorian at all. Now this game is bugged and I can't romance IB? God damn it.
