Here's what I've found, and some guesses people have made as to what they're references to:

* I don't know why people think this is a reference. I am just putting down their answer.

  • "He didn't kill his father. He was his father." – Star Wars ("Luke I am your father." Doy.)
  • "It's made of people." – Soylent Green (this is what Thorn says.)
  • "He teaches them to fight with a secret flaw, part of a glorious strategy." – Jade Empire (said by Master Li; this one has basically been unanimously decided as a definite reference.)
  • "He was their enemy the whole time, but she made him forget, so he could change." – KOTOR *
  • "Old pain, shadows forgotten from dreams too real. This side is slow and heavy, but here is what can change." – The Matrix (I guess I see, but I'm not really convinced.)
  • "Never trust half an elf." – LOTR (Gimli says, "Never trust an elf.")
  • "He hunts the killer, but he's the one who killed her. He can't remember." – Memento; Shutter Island * (essentially the plot of Memento.)
  • "He was dead the whole time. He didn't know." – The Sixth Sense, since the boy's name was Cole, and the guy ends up being dead at the end even though he thought he was alive throughout the entire movie. However, someone pointed out that this is basically what happened to Cole in Asunder. I'm still leaning towards it being a reference to The Sixth Sense, though.
  • "There is no other man. He becomes the other man to do the things he can't." – Fight Club (essentially the ending plot revelation in the book/movie.)
  • "An old name burns inside of armor that shouldn't fit, lit by faces of children he couldn't save." – Mass Effect (I don't know about the armor, but if this is an ME3 reference, the kid is definitely the one on earth that Shepard tried and failed to save.); FMA *

 

Feel free to add more if you think you know some.

 

PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY IT IS A REFERENCE TO WHATEVER YOU THINK IT IS REFERENCING.

These are just answers I got from other people. I actually haven't read FMA yet, so I don't know.

I recommend watching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Very good story about 2 brothers with a sh*tty past...

 

Anyway, I get how this can be a reference:

"An old name burns inside of armor that shouldn't fit" - You only need to watch 2 or 3 episodes to get this one (although I don't see how Shepard doesn't fit his armor)

 

"lit by faces of children he couldn't save" - I don't get this part. I see why this part can be a reference to ME but I can't see how it fits FMA.

It's like Cole is picking up on messages from the media of OUR world in the game! Maybe from people in our real world who are suffering, but still watching a lot of TV and movies.  :)

 

No one in Thedas would understand what he's talking about if he's picking up distant thoughts and emotions from us. No wonder they think he's so weird.  :P

The only thing about the Citizen Kane one is that it seems so vague to be certain that it's a reference.

I'll trust your judgment since your profile picture is of L.

Not to mention that they make a reference to Citizen Kane in DA2.

He acts kind of like one. Speaking about forgotten or arcane truths in words that make no sense unless you know what he's talking about already. He's clearly tapped into the Malkavian Madness Network!

Trying to remember the name of the movie she dyes her hair red before killing someone, the scene makes you think there was blood going down the drain she's almost crazy rubbing it into her scalp with an evil smile then she seduces a guy and kills him.

Ah, interesting. I remember hearing him mumble these particular lines and immediately going "Wait, what??? He most certainly couldn't refer to..." and then forgot about it. Didn't know this was an actual thing.
