I think it quite often needs tactics. Playing on Hard. The interface can be frustrating, but that's a different issue.

I'm going to point out that many people who considered DAO tactical did so because of the micromanagement.

The tactics options in DAO are much better than what DAI has.  While you could micro in DAO, and I am sure lots of people did, the tactics options for your party members allowed you to set up how they used their abilities, and when, much better than you can in DAI.

They lied.  Its not like DAO.  Its much closer to DA2.

Its a good game but its not what they advertised, so that might ****** you off.  It did me.  Definitely don't buy it for the PC unless you enjoy using a gamepad for PC games, because the KB+Mouse interface is dogshit.

What you describe doesn't sound like DA2 - I played that entire game in tactical pause menu, micromanaging every action for every party member and it worked fine. You couldn't quite zoom out as far as you could for DAO, but other than a few areas where you would get stuck by a wall or something, you could easily view the entire combat area.

And playing with gamepad it's not like you can suddenly use tactical view better. I'm pretty sure people playing on console are not able to use the tactical menu as well as you can with keyboard and mouse. Even given whatever changes or limitations there are, such as not being able to select all party members by dragging cursor, etc., I still can't imagine how it could possibly be easier with gamepad.

I always disable all party member tactics for any dragon age game and micromanage everything. It would be much more awkward to play this way using gamepad, if it is even possible.

This has confused me too. My best guess is that people who like gamepads generally use gamepads to play games I'd play with WASD.

You can make it a bit better than what it is atm.

There might be more changes possible in the future, so people might still get the tac cam they always wanted.

DAO was all about face rolling every encounter without thought on nightmare. The only challenge in that game came from crap builds.

that's basically what I did. couple of dw rogues killing everyone, everyone beating up my sword and board tank made who can never die while my mage has lyrim potions to keep the heals going. did this about a hundred times before I started automating it a bit with scripting. by mid game I kept on taking control of one of the dw rogues to ignore most of the fights completely go off looting corpses and barrels, handling traps etc while the darkspawn got murdered. The "brutal difficulty" of DAO is greatly exaggerated.

They lied.  Its not like DAO.  Its much closer to DA2.

This is actually not true except with some of the attack animations. Its not like DAO or DA2 its worse than both.

what have they done in regards to that bit of advertising?

Seems like a troll bait thread.

Just in case it isn't : let's say it's not the first time Bioware has blatantly lied, but it's one of the most egregious.

When is the key word there. As far as I'm concerned the tactics are fine in DA:I. If they added a when to tactics it would work perfectly. Yes the AI takes a bit getting use to, but eventually you can predict when said char will do what. As far as the tac cam goes, its far from perfect and mostly just takes some getting use to. I started out micromanaging everything in DA:I, but I have largely moved away from tac cam, not because I couldn't use it, but because combat just seems a little more fun in real time. I have my abilities order memorized so its not all that difficult. When you start developing a strategy that you can implement 75% of the time you get a good feel for what your companions will do and when. I've messed around with the tactics and behaviors quite a bit and yeah, it takes some getting use to but once you understand how it works its not that bad.

And yes, I play with a gamepad with 25 buttons plus a WASD thumb navigator and a 20 button mouse that I can customize to my liking so it does make it easier to navigate all my buttons. I just set my buttons the way I like, memorize where they are and poof, I can pretty much press any button without moving my had at all. When you know exactly where all your buttons are it makes navigating even the tac cam not that difficult to navigate and use.

Edit: Oh yeah, and that whole business about DA:I not being a tactical game? TBH Its mostly the way the community recieved how to play the game more than anything else. I bet the BW devs are just as baffled about people rejecting the tac cam as the people who say this game is not tactical saying BW totally lied to them.

Rotating the camera in DA:I with a controller is indeed a little clunky, but it's completely unnecessary. Also the camera won't move down cliffs (Origins doesn't even have many cliffs) properly. Other than that, it works just as well as origins.

I actually find combat in DA:I less "tactical" than it was in DAII. I also was fooled by this trailer. I really believed that there is "tactic" involved in combat and I that they added real tactical camera.
