The "Hold Position" command doesn't work. At all.

Using PC version.

"Hold Position" command is flat-out broken.  You tell your party to hold, you move away from them, and boom they're right back with you. Absolutely infuriating with dragon battles when I'm trying to place people in strategic positions and use range attacks from cover. I tell them to hold position, they ignore me, run out to the dragon and get promptly decimated.

I don't know when your first patch is coming, but this is a big one.  The most frustrating one I've seen in this game beyond having my character's voice change permanently when I select a custom appearance for Hawke.

I noticed this too. I wasn't doing it during battle though, I thought that was the problem.

It happens whether you're in battle or not.  But, this is terrible behavior even when you're NOT in battle.  They have this one puzzle area, where you need to have different party members activate different levers and torches in order to unlock this one room.  You position one, tell everyone to hold position, change characters and then they all run back together again.  Very annoying.

If you tell your party to hold position, they should freaking do it until you tell them otherwise, load into new zone, or trigger a cutscene.

There's a certain distance you can go before a stuck or unconscious companion will get teleported to you, I think that would make more sense to keep

Also, you should be able to give the command to individual party members - it shouldn't be an all-or-none command.  You might want a single party member to sit out a battle, or a nearly-dead party member to take cover while the others still fight.

Granted, making it work at all is much more important.  But, something to consider.

I thought it was just a different hold position logic.

Where in the past hold position would hold the whole party, it seemed like it just holds 1 party member now.

This was annoying for that one puzzle where you need to control party members on levers and pressure plates, but after a few tests i managed to just cycle F1-> Hold F2-> Hold, etc. Doing this for each member held them during the puzzle i needed control for.

When you press the "Hold Position" button, the text "Hold Position" appears next to each party member as their current command.

After many, many attempts, I too was able to get the party to sit still during that same puzzle, using the same method, but was unable to duplicate the "success" during combat scenarios.

It doesn't help that mages and archers secretly want to be warriors and rogues, so even when you position them properly to take advantage of their skills at range, as soon as you switch to your melee character during the fight, those two idiots run right in and get themselves ganked.

Good thing we're still in Beta and they have time to fix things before release, eh?

Huge bump here, but I am new to this game, 13 hours in, and it's April 2015.Hold command STILL not working, Trying to do the Dead Hand puzzle in Exhalted Plains, no one will stay put. During battles to, ranged players are not staying put. I tell someone to hold say, by a panel in the ground or from cover, and they just run right into melee range.

EDIT: Disabling AI has zero effect either.

Same on ps4. I sneak up to the enemy only to have that moron Solas run up to them as fast as he can and blowing our cover.

Like tactics, something origin did perfectly and the dev just can't get right a second time.

How hard is "do not move?" It's the absence of action!

It doesn't work on the 360 either - soooo many times I've been hoofed off a ledge because they won't stay still >_<

I'm on PC (using a controller) and the command has been working alright for me. But I have noticed that if you move too far away from them or if you switch control over to them, it breaks the hold command so that might be where some of the problems are arising. I've still been able to do the Dead Hand puzzle and keep archers away just fine, though.

Unfortunately, HOLD doesn't always work in tactical camera. In fact, I refuse to call it a hold button but a 'I'll stay where you tell me until I feel like moving' button. In a game where tactics and strategy are supposed to be important, if I tell my people to Hold in one spot I don't want them moving from that spot, whether there's an enemy around or not. I accept that there's a distance limit to Hold, but the Dead hand puzzle room isn't big enough.

It shouldn't be a tactical camera mode feature. It shouldn't toggle off a companion just because I switch people (how else do you move them around or give a specific command). Hold should mean don't move under any circumstances and it should only toggle off if I hit the command again. There it is, my rant for the day. I used a lot of 'language' last night,  .

EDIT: That is to say, it shoudn't just be a tactical camera mode feature.

I also have trouble with the "hold" key working (PC keyboard). Half the time it ignores my request. The tactical camera can be disengaged by hitting "T" key for me. This is with patch 6

It works for me in combat as long as I do not leave the tactical cam, I believe, but it seems a bit random outside of combat whether or not they decide to stay. (PC)

I got it to work, but in a limited fashion, on PS4. It definitely doesn't work the way it did in Origins, though. If that was the intention... yeah, bad. XD

But for puzzles it worked, so long as you, one, didn't run too far from them. Do that, and they'd TP to you and all is lost. Two, every time I switched characters I had to reaffirm the hold command before moving the character I was currently controlling about, or, for me, the character I had been controlling previously would not be on hold and run up to my current character. So long as I did that, I had no trouble.

Of course, figuring this out made that one puzzle a huge pain during my first run through. xD

Is hold meant for the puzzle situations, then? Not for tactical maneuvering anymore? If so, sadness. Perhaps they couldn't get a more tactical form of the command working in sync with the way companions consistently TP to your Quizzy?

(to Lethaya) I doubt hold was meant for only puzzle situations, though it does help when it works to stop your companions from stomping all over your careful planning, since it is very helpful when facing dragons amongst other things.

The only time I got it to work was for the puzzle that requires you to have all four people in the right spot at the right moment. Tactically your AI compatriots will forever be knuckleheads, I don't think its something they can or want to fix right now.

Just installed Patch 7 a day or two ago. Hold still broken. And on top of it all, Black Emporium installed early yesterday, and I STILL can't access it on the war table.
