My hypothesis: In general, while playing as a mage I get far more CTDs than as a warrior or rogue. So something related to mages is causing me to CTD.
Over the past several days I rolled four new mages and timed their CTDs. I averaged them throwing out the lowest and highest play times. I then tried to average the CTD times on my warrior and rogue. These were all tested in the Hinterlands with the same party and same settings on nightmare difficulty for a period of five hours. All mages had the same skills chosen entirely from the lightning tree and were of different races and genders.
Mage 1 CTD Average: 28 minutes
Mage 2 CTD Average: 37 minutes
Mage 3 CTD Average: 31 minutes
Mage 4 CTD Average: 1 hour 44 minutes
Rogue CTD Average: 4 hours 39 minutes (only one crash)
Warrior CTD Average: nil
My request: Sample size matters. My experiences may be aberrant. Or I may not understand what I am doing to cause these crashes. The issue might not be related to mages at all.
It would be really great if others with CTD issues could help test this. I still need to test the other skill trees to verify that it isn't something specifically in the lightning tree. Only one zone was checked. Only Solas, Varric and Cassandra were used. And the more samples from every class the better.
If you would like to help me out, all you would need to do is record the time between your CTDs for a period and report your class, party, zone(s) and skill trees being used. Thank you. Any kind of help narrowing down unknown CTD issues would be useful.
