***Spoilers ahead***

Okay, so this is as far as I have made it into the game.  I have gone through the game up till now feeling very confident with the leadership decision I've made.  However, this one is giving me a hard time...hoping to hear what everyone else has done.

Let Hawke or Stroud/Loghain/Alistair sacrifice themselves to save the rest?  In my game, Alistair is the King and Loghain died at the Landsmeet, so I have Stroud.

I let Stroud sacrifice himself.  Its kinda unfair, seeing as how he was the only Warden with any sense, and he is left paying the price for the sheer idiocy and gullibility of the other Wardens.  However, my rationale was that I didn't want Varric to get pissed if Hawke died, and as the Champion, Hawke can probably still be more useful than Stroud in the war.

Then comes the decision to banish the Wardens or let them join the Inquisition.  I think the Wardens were absolute morons, yes they were desperate but a bad decision is a bad decision regardless of the motives behind it.  I banished them, simply because they had done far more harm than good even if they were misled.  They also are at risk of being corrupted by Corypheus again, which could be a huge liability to the Inquisition.

Now I am regretting my decision to banish the Wardens.  Cass, Viv and Solus were the only ones that approved of banishment, the rest disapproved.  I am romancing Cass so I don't want her dissaproval, but I have her approval very high and killing the rogue Templars for her quest grants a lot of approval so I think I'm fine if I let the Wardens join.  I never use Viv and Solus is a bro but I don't really care if he disapproves of my choices.  So really if I allow the Wardens to join the only person who I care about that would disapprove is Cass, which should be easily remedied and I already have her at high approval.

So what did you do?  What was your rationale?  I appreciate the input!

NOTE: I haven't gone further than this quest, so I would appreciate if you didn't post spoilers for any parts of the game beyond this quest.

Well, I roleplayed a ruthless 'give-no-second-chances' type character, rather than play myself. In this roleplay, my character doesn't care about companion approval - they either like it or lump it, so approval doesn't factor in. That said, it's very easy to max out approval by doing a companion's inner circle quest whilst they're in your party, or by killing enemies they dislike (Red Templars for Varric, Darkspawn for Blackwall).

As for the quest, I have exactly the same world state, so I'll go through my character's thought process. Hawke is more important to restoring peace than Stroud, as he's not only a diplomatic-minded individual, but the Champion of Kirkwall with all the pull that it brings. In addition, the Wardens have to attone for their mistakes, and though Stroud didn't do anything wrong, he is part of that organisation. So, Stroud sacrifices himself to get the Inquisitior and Hawke back through to Thedas.

When it comes to the Grey Wardens, they messed up big time. My Inquisitor really didn't like that they were okay with summoning demons and sacrifices in order to "stop the blight". Also, Corypheus still has some sway with them with the Calling, so who knows what else he can do? Ultimately, the Grey Wardens are an unknown entity and my Inquisitor can't allow them to interfere with restoring order. As such, he exiled them. Blackwall was around at the time, but the Inquisitor stated that he had proved himself (unlike the other wardens) and so was allowed to stay. Blackwall also seemed resilient to Corypheus' fake calling, and so was perhaps the only Warden who could fight him.

I love Loghain, but there was no way I could leave Hawke behind since Varric was kinda standing right next to me. I made that choice entirely for Varric, I'd rather see him happy <_<

Without any specific spoilers, does the choice affect anything in the game besides companion approval/disapproval?
