I love the game so far, but I am finding the whole system of upgrading armor to be extremely confusing and not well thought out.  I have a few questions I was hoping someone could help point me in the right direction:

1) When you pull up inventory, there is an UPGRADES section at the bottom.  What on earth is this for?  As it almost never shows anything for me.  Just now I checked it and I see an upgrade listed for 2H weapon, yet I have no 2H weapon characters in my group.

2) Armor crafting and weapon crafting.  Where do you get schematics?  They seem almost non existent, so I never craft.

3) Modifying armor or weapons...  again, this is really confusing.  I select my armor, and all I see is "No Upgrades available for this item".  If I look at see slots for Heavy Legs or Arms, but they are always red and say No upgrades available.  Is this something that needs to be bought somewhere?  Already level 8 and have yet to find any of these upgrades anywhere.

1. Any warrior companion/character can conceivably hold a two-handed weapon. Of course that doesn't mean you have to use the upgrade.

2. You will get schematics in loot, I remember finding the one of the Bianca ones quite early, probably in the Hinterlands. I don't think either of the two merchants early in the game (the one in Haven, and the one at the Crossroads in Hinterland) have schematics, but later when you progress you will find merchants who have them.

3. It is confusing, that's for sure. (Doesn't help that the craft/modify stations are placed counterintuitively at Haven.) First you have to craft the upgrade (if you have the schematic) at the Craft Weapon/Armor station (at which point you should remember the name or rename it to something easy to remember), then walk over to Modify Weapon/Armor station, find the weapon/armor you want to modify, click that, and then you'll see the upgrade (after drilling down to "arms" or "legs", for example).

Pay attention to the tiny text in white that says "tier 1 blah blah" and etc. since heavy armor upgrades can only be applied to heavy armor, etc., and some of the upgrade names don't actually use "heavy" or "medium" in their description.
