Frustrated with extremely limited healing options

I ran into a situation where I entered a boss battle with almost no potions and everyone in bad health. With no way to heal and waves of enemies, it's pretty much an unbeatable situation. The only way I can finish the level now is by restarting the entire mission and avoid getting hit ever, which is really preposterous. I think regardless of my skill level or lack of it, no player should have to be stuck in this way.
My suggestion here is to give at least one supply crate before the start of that battle, and every boss battle so beating them is always achievable to even the most casual of players.
For future games, Bioware should go back to allowing healing spells. The potions only system isn't effective and doesn't make sense in any context, gameplay wise and story wise.

Is that the battle with Celene's cousin? I managed that without needing health potions
I'm about 40 hours into my first playthrough and I'm currently having problems completing Halamshiral because of it's absolute lack of supply crates.

Sometimes you have to accept they'll die and just revive them.

Yeah. I wish reviving them returned all of their health. Might have saved me in that fight with that dragon. ![]()

Before that battle, I was actually intent on killing and looting everything I saw since I'm a bit of a completionist. But of course that takes health and potions so I regret that now.Is that the battle with Celene's cousin? I managed that without needing health potions

Part of the reason is that you are given the bad ball gear armor. When you get to the fight you are talking about, you are allowed to change equipment unlike earlier in the quest. I know what you're talking about, I was stuck there as well. When you get your normal gear back on, it'll be much easier. Unless you've already done that:)

I still think the current healing system is terrible and limiting. I fought a lvl 12 dragon with an entire lvl 12 team on casual mode, got it to half health and ran out of potions at that point. I was ****ed. I can't teleport back to camp to restock, cause i'm in battle and the dragon would probably heal. So I attempted to try reviving my companions as they fell, but of course that didn't work. (didn't help the dragon summoned dragonlings to battle) And I died.
Would have mastered that fight if I'd had an actual healer and not a universal pool of potions. (at least make it so each of the four party members has a unique potion inventory, not shared) ![]()

You can assign them another healing potion. The level 12 dragon you need to use barrier and keep moving otherwise the fireballs will get you all the time. Then hide under a ledge and kill the dragonlings. Easy enough

Yes my armor and weapons are equipped.Did you make sure all of your armor and weapons are equipped with no missing pieces? What party and abilities do you have? Maybe someone can help with a strategy?
No, I don't think strategy matters when I immedietely enter a battle with 3 potions and nearly everyone at 30% health.
If I started with 100% across the board and no potions, I think I would've done just fine, but there was no way to do that in my situation.

How do you assign them another healing potion if they use the same healing potion slots?
And I did that, but it still failed. Didn't help that Dorian got the funny idea to try and tank the dragon after Iron Bull fell. And Verric keeps thinking he's a dagger rogue when he's an archer not even equipped with daggers. ![]()

you add it to their second slot. You have to control them when looking at the potion table

Bring a mage, use barrier + revival when needed, along with potions of regeneration and healing for tough battles. Also, make sure you're at the right levels. If you can't get past the tough parts with that advice, I don't know how to help you:/

I'm not asking for advice. I'm bringing up the ridiculous issue of no healing spells in a series that didn't really suffer from them in the first place.

Killed my first dragon at lvl 8 without using a single potion. As a mage with hella range I just pinged him to death from afar.

Each of your party can carry an additional 10 potions. That's a total of up to 48 potions. Edited for a big-ass mistake in numbers.

Agreed.
Each of your party can carry 20-30 potions. That's a total of up to 120 potions. How many do you want?
Dear god, what level and how many perk points did it take to get you to that point? I've got two open slots and 8 potions. I can perk to boost those potions by about 1 or 2. ![]()
Also, the potions are a shared pool. So I doubt it equals up to 120 potions. At the least, 90 for three max slots. And the amount of inquisition perks you need to build up to even get to that point...

I agree that healing in this game is handled rather poorly. Guard and Barriers seem to be the preventative remedy (not a problem in typical fights), but I miss traditional healers just the same. The mage's spirit tree seems to be the closest thing to a healing/support class, but it falls short against dragons.

Guard and Barriers help, but the enemy has them as well and their barriers are so much more meaty then my party members little barriers. ![]()

You have to use a perk to open up a third slot. Load the slots with health and regen potions. You can do this at a pretty low level and I believe it takes two perks to get it. Re-did the math and I the max would be 48 potions. Sorry for the mix up there.

eh, no problem. Still, I would expect to be able to deal with a lvl 12 dragon if my party is 12 and i'm on casual.

You may have found that fun. I, and many others, prefer this approach. Indeed many players are on here arguing that barrier spam makes the game easier than with health potions.
You got stuck. Lower the difficulty or come back later, or take some of the large amount of advice offered just on this thread.

Why? Dragons are side-quests and killing them is not necessary to complete the main story. Come back at a higher level. I beat the level twelve Frostback at level 15.

I was excited when they first announced plans to limit healing options and that preparation was supposed to be important.
There is no preparation before missions, you just restock back to 8 potions.
We ended up with an action game, mmo-like controls (actually a bad mmo) so I dont know why they limited the healing. If it's action, then fight through the encounter, heal up and proceed. If it was supposed to be strategic/tactical, then why is there no auto-attack and strategic view doesn't even work.

You realise if they brought the old style healing back they would bring the old style enemies back with their massive damage and stun locking right?

From what I've seen, the enemies are still like that. Lots of hp and damage, and able to do knowdowns, stuns, and a few other things.

Yeah, That's my plan. To come back around lvl 15. I just figured being on casual mode, a dragon at my level should be a challenge but still doable. And it would have been...if not for running out of potions.
