Yes, by and large, I love this game. So much about it is absolutely amazing, and I really appreciate all the hard work that has gone into it.

However, Bioware...you have been quite duplicitous about certain aspects of this game. For example, you told us that specialisations actually have a real impact this time on how your companions view you, and used this as an explanation for why Blood Mage didn't make sense to return. In reality, a few of your companions mention your spec once briefly, and then never again. There is no real profound impact that suggests Blood Mage would have been a no no.

You also claimed that the reason we could only pick one spec (along with the one aforementioned) is that you really wanted each character to feel unique.

The truth though, is that both of these decisions were made because you took many powerful abilities that you used to be sustained spells and turned them into passives...so you could remove mana/stamina management...so you could remove manual attribute alocation...so casual players wouldn't have to deal with any of it and just have cool **** happen on screen non stop. And yes, again, this is the reason Blood Magic isn't in the game. Has nothing to do with how companions might see you. It's a cop out excuse.

This is also the reason you didn't find it important to bring back the sophisticated tactics menu, because hell when when stamina/mana is no real issue, it's much less problematic to just let the AI spam their abilities willy nilly.

Now, all of these things...I get them. On a certain level anyway. I understand wanting to capture a larger audience and not wanting to appear too daunting to them. However, I personally don't like it, and I REALLY dislike the way these design decisions have been sugercoated under false explanations. I mean at least be straight about it because honestly, you're not fooling anyone who's paying attention

Bioware never said that specializations will have a real impact in how you will be viewed. There were some very early discussions about how they hoped to make specializations more impactful, but everything about the story relationship between specializations and the game was semi-confirmed rumour level/

I feel like the specialization I chose has had something of an impact. I picked Necromancy and it is brought up quite a bit in dialogue and in the war table mission breifings/reports.

On the subject of sustained abilities... well I hated them. Always. Happy to see plenty of passive bonuses. Managing sustained abilities in Origins was just frustrating and not fun. I wouldn't consider myself casual or super hardcore, but I am very glad to see the sustained abilities gone.

I DID miss the tactics from previous DA games at first, but I am ok with what we have now. There are still some "wtf are you doing" moments, but they have happened less and less as I progress and tweak my party members. I play on Nightmare mode and try to play without the tactical cam as much as possible (mainly use it to see resists or find a downed party member in the chaos). My party of Cassandra (2h-tank), Iron Bull (2hdps), Cole (daggers) and my mage has gotten along swimmingly with their AI for everything but dragons. For dragons I switch out Cassandra and Cole for Blackwall/Solas.

I too love this game so far, but I don't see any of this as "deceptive simplification."
