Why would women need to have long hair? Short hair is also hair.

For the sake of diversity, I support the OP.

There's a Skyrim mod that adds over 200 hairstyles. As I understand it many are reworkings of ancient mod content from the Sims, so despite them looking better in game than anything vanilla, they're not "new tech".
Polygonal hair is a subtle blend of good modelling, alpha textures and a realistic shader. Personally I'd be happy with "stock" styles but looking at character gen it appears that hairstyles don't morph with the head geometry (e.g. it's easy to make a forehead clip through a fringe).
Hopefully modders will at least unlock Celene and Morrigan's hair for use. Morrigan's hair is the best long style IMO and even appears to be slightly animated.

I'd like to think the lack in hairstyles is just some sort of bizarre glitch. I figure they just copy/pasted all the buzzcuts from Mass Effect and forgot to enable the new hairstyles for Dragon Age instead.

Bioware has no idea what good hairstyles are like, both for the men and for the women.
Perhaps they should seek some barber's, hair stylist's and hairdresser's aid for hair design for the next game.
I am sure there must be some in Edmonton who would be happy to help...

They should add another buzz-cut, with 'NO' shaved into the back of it, just to eff with you folks.

Rendering is another story, but what do you mean with "Ultra" ? I'm playing on PS3, and if you see the graphic render of Trees (Trees, Hairs, same story)... And even the pebble (les galets) on the beach (on the coast), they look like if it was a flat wallpaper...
So rendering Hairs, is pretty difficult, many details...
I just think they should have add more details to 3D rendering (and some better haircuts - like in DAO)
Ultra means to play it on the highest graphical settings possible. At least playing it on a next gen console would work as apparently the PS4 is equal to high settings.
Playing it on the PS3 or Xbox 360 means you're on the lowest possible graphical settings because you're using vastly outdated hardware that just can't handle it anymore. Of course it's not going to look amazing.

The frostbite engine has some obvious limitations. Sure the landscape is beautiful, but hair is bad, clearly can't be long, and the human animation leaves a lot to be desired. I don't blame bioware. You can only do what your tools allow. That being said, if bioware is going to keep using frostbite, I think some programmers are going to be working overtime. Neither hair or subtle animation is trivial. There's a reason so many engines do it poorly.

One has his head stuck deep in his own rear. Don't listen to him.
I completely missed that sexist little nugget.
So we've got a double standard on the hair, and we've got complaining about the quality of the graphics when they are playing on an old gen console.
Thread dismissed.

one of the many places in this game where Bioware was cheap, really cheap. Whats worse they all look terrible, almost Skyrim level of bad. Has technology seriously not advanced at all in all that time. Hell even modders made more awesome Skyrim hair with no performance loss. Then when you finally get in game the colours never match and because for whatever lame reason you cant even save a character template in the design window so you have to remember all your sliders and then sit through/skip all the movies just to see the toon in action. Then rise and repeat if you get something wrong.

I think that warriors, especially female warriors, should not have loose haning hair. It is not a catwalk but a war.
It's more practical with short hair.
BUT!
I still would like to have had the option to chose at least a decent PONYTAIL!

Lol no, there is just one's with buns, ponytails and braids. Look what's happening behind, there isn't any truly short.

Not a buzz cut but it's pretty short without any braids, buns or ponytails. Granted there isn't many like this, tho.

Take a look Here on the Video comparative PS3/PS4: Dragon Age: Inquisition – PS3 vs. PS4 Graphics
I don't see too much difference between the two platforms...

Celene's hairstyle is in the Character Creator.

I would love it if they added follower and important NPC haircuts to the CC.
Not sure if they would though, as to preserve uniqueness.

Short would be what Cassandra has. Most of those hair has bun or ponytail. Some are bob but that's shortest it gets.
