This may be a stupid question but where do I find it? I am still in the Hinterlands.

 

Also, I know I found the creature research somewhere in one of the camps in the Hinterlands but I can't remember where!

You don't get to Skyhold until after your first attempt to close the Breach, which happens after siding with the mages or Templars. So you still have some time to go.
