The witcher 3 will set the standard for future RPG's regardless of "romance options" if you know the lore and Geralts history, he is easily one of the top 5 characters you will play in your lifetime.

Passing this game up is Heracy to any true RPG fan. Inquisition is a FANTASTIC game but I would be lying if I said it wasn't just a holdover to the next witcher. CDProjektRed is Bioware's equal when it comes to gameplay, story telling an scope.

Wicher 3 will always blow Bioware away when it comes to love scenes. I want to compliment Bioware though and say great job on not doing what you did in DA 2. That was awful. Making love with clothes on was just really gross looking to me. I felt like Bioware was treating its fan base like children. Atleast we got to see boobs finally. Times are looking up. Also Iron Bull scene was hilarious. Learn from Witcher 3 though. You guys are getting closer!

Edit: I meant 2 sorry witcher 3 isn't even out yet lol....

Witcher's 2 romance with Triss was superb. I agree. And all the the rest was quite alright too in terms of depiction of Geralt's sexuality and how he lived by it.

As for DA:I, well, I romanced Josephine and the climax was a kiss in front of a fireplace. Seems I made the wrong choice. But then, I liked Cassandra even less visually and from a character-angle... well, nothing to fall in love with. Thanks again for giving me exactly two horrible possible love interests, BW.

TBH, I started my relationship with BW with BG1, but CDProjekt hasn't been Bioware's equal since Witcher 2. The have surpassed them.

And I honestly thought the rage mob of Witcher's fan was a myth. Should we expect Harry Ptter's fans invasion too?

Agreed.

DAI copies plenty of features from DA2. Especially features that people hated in TW2 like that sonar scanning thing. At least that was explained well in TW2. Here there is no explanation, just "Sonar, Yo !".

Watch as Bioware release this statement later when they are developing DA4 : "We are looking into Witcher 3 and Elder Scrolls 6 aggressively" .

Bioware is quite frankly, like Apple now. They have long stopped innovating on their own and are just copy-pasting elements from other games and companies.

Then there is Cyberpunk 2077, which if it turns out to be even half as good as it is advertised, will make Mass Effect with its butchered lore thanks to ME3's ending look like a massive joke...

Objectively speaking. CDPR is just a better company than BW is.

CDPR: They make you pay for the game only once. DLCs are free, Enhanced Editions are free, Modding Kit is free, there is no DRM, they keep their word when they say PC is their main platform and above all else, they treat you like an adult.

BW: Makes you pay for single player DLCs, makes you pay for cut content, no Modding Kit, intrusive DRM, flat out lied about their commitment to PC as a platform and treats you like a prudish teenager.

Sorry, if I wanted to be a broody straight white dude, I'd pick a game from some other genre. I dislike getting stuck with a fixed protagonist in CRPGs. I played the first game for an hour and haaaaaaaaaaated it.

Witcher 2 is much better in any regard. Works without having played the first one. And wow, good for you playing an game for an hour and throwing it away. If I were in the same mindset, I would have never left the Hinterlands.

And btw, you don't like being stuck with a fixed protagonist, which is why you probably played DA2, DA:I and the Mass Effect series, right? Right???

I don't see any reason to waste any more of my time on the off-chance that I might start not hating it eventually. I got the game for $5, so it's not like I spent much money on it.

In those games I can change the name, appearance, personality, sexuality and gender of the player character. Get back to me when I can do any of that in The Witcher.

The one is a game created by uninhibited Poles, the other a game created by puritanical and inhibited Canadians, Americans.

Name change? LoL. Let me tell you how often my first names were referenced in any DA game: 0 (zero) times.

Appearance? Okay. IIRC, Mods somewhat help with that a little. You still remember what Mods are, right?

Personality? Gerald can have several personalities depending on your choices and answers. At least as much of a personality as Bioware's latest "lawful/funny/forceful"-player characters were allowed to develop.

Gender? Yeah... Geralt will never be a girl, that's true. For me however no a problem, since I always play dudes. I'm kind of having trouble identifying myself with a woman as my own player character. Maybe I'm not transgender enough for that.

And sexuality? Well, yeah. At least for me, the same as above applies here. I'm probably not enough of a closet-homosexual to ever wanting to play a non-straight player character. If that is different for you, I feel for you. Definitely one of the most important things about a CRPG... who cares about the story arcs and character design, right?

In the end it's about end of the world **** too. The whole ending of Witcher 1 made that abundantly clear.

Ves says hi.

Woops, I forgot about Ves. OK 2 romance choices then.

Well, sure, but I could still give my characters different names. It makes a difference to me.

Appearance? Okay. IIRC, Mods somewhat help with that a little. You still remember what Mods are, right?

Sure. Are there mods that make Gerelt something other than a pasty white dude?

Personality? Gerald can have several personalities depending on your choices and answers. At least as much of a personality as Bioware's latest "lawful/funny/forceful"-player characters were allowed to develop.

You probably know more about that than I do, since you played the whole game. I concede the point.

I am a woman. When I play CRPGs, I want to play as a woman. (At least at first. If it's a game I play a lot, like DAO and DA2, I get around to playing a man eventually.)

Who says I can't care about story arcs, character design AND not being forced to play a straight dude? That's what I love about the Dragon Age series, after all.

(Anyway, I'm afraid I have to go to bed now. I will have to argue about The Witcher some other day.)

Well, I see your point about not being to play as a woman. As I said, that is a problem in the Witcher series, but not something that can be resolved easily without going against the whole story of the books.

Sleep well :)

Boobs, to the average male adult, are fairly important.

And that's exactly why I can't take this kind of threads seriously. Dry humping in underwear looks ridiculous and needs to go away, but nudity isn't enough to make a sex scene good. Nudity without passion makes it stiff and cringy, and animating passion is hard. It doesn't even need to be too revealing. Isabela's romance scene with Hawke disarming her and throwing knives everywhere while they were kissing was the best romance scene in DA2 imo, and they were fully clothed.

The Witcher has pretty good sex scenes for several reasons, but most people are just mesmerized by dem boobies and don't seem to care about the actual quality of the scene. Nudity never hurts, but "this scene is better because bewbs" isn't much of an argument. Some people have seen enough boobs to last two lifetimes and just pray for something decently animated.

I agree with your sentiment on the Hawke/Isabella romance scene.

And tbh, I always neglected the Witcher series, because I was a die-hard Bioware fan when it came to High Fantasy settings. Witcher 1 romances were not as good than what I was used to, when I was finally convinced by a friend to play it anywas. But then I was still used to Morrigan, Jaheira etc. Triss, even then, was pretty much okay though. But how things turned out in Witcher 2... jeez, that sex scene in that underground temple pond, was BY FAR the best I've seen in any video game, not to mention that I began to care for Triss as a character I only remembered "feeling" for Morrigan.

When I look at what BW offered me in DA:I (romanced Josephine, just couldn't bring myself to get with Cassandra... the looks, the character, that accent), I can only shake my head.

Dragon age is more likely to end up in hand of children as well, yeah yeah rated mature but EA/Bioware knows this hence probably the toned sex scenes.EA goal is clearly to appeal to as much people(even younger gamers) as possible. It is good for the Witcher that it can do that is selling point for them but if they want to Dragon age numbers the crap storm that will happen when parent see their kid watching a nude scene even though the game is mature will not be worth it.Even GTA who push the limits on this stuff does not go that crazy.

The temple scene was really good, agreed. Josephine and Solas don't have sex scenes at all in da:i. Cassandra, Dorian, Cullen and Bull have pretty good scenes, I haven't seen the others. Overall, way better than dao. The awkward music and stiff animations were killing me.

The "romance scenes" in the Witcher do make sense, in Geralt's perspective. He is a witcher, thus making him immune to all kinds of diseases, and he has been described as kind of a "ladies man" kind of person. He likes sex, quite frankly. If he is immune to the possible side effects, then why not? Witchers can't have children either so no risk of little Geralt's running around.

Even Triss has gotten used to Geralt being the way he is. I think their relationship is deeper than just sex, which is why they still deeply care for each other.

What I don't understand, is why so many women (in the Witcher 1, at least) would agree to have sex with him? Is he THAT attractive? Is it his deep voice? Or maybe the white hair? I really don't know. :D
