Patch notes came out today - no mention of What Lies Dormant. Has *anyone* managed to trigger it and remembers how?

 

I've done two playthroughs and ANFFR has never shown up in my completed log, much less a mission that leads to What Lies Dormant.

It seems "What Lies Dormant" is triggering with the new patch.

Indeed it seem to be working now. I first got the Measuring the Veil war table mission after triggering around 10 elven artifacts, and after it's completion it finally triggered What Lies Dormant.

Indeed, there's not been a single line spoken related to the quest as far as I can tell (not even any thanks, leaving my Lavellan sorely dissapointed and hurt). Though I've not progressed far enough in the game to tell if there's some sort of banter later, but it looks very bleak in that regard.

 

Hopefully it's not working as designed, as so far the only flavor you get from that quest is the War Table mission.

It's weird. It's like a very small percentage of players have gotten it, but they haven't seemed to have done anything in a specific order (or at least, when I interrogated my friend, she couldn't think of anything she'd done out of the ordinary ). I also hope it gets fixed in the next patch!

Is there anyway to trigger it if you've already activated all of the artifacts?

 

I'm right before the final mission and I think I've already activated all of them.

Well, I just went to one I had already activated (at least I think I did, didn't get any approval from it) and hit it again and it gave me the wartable mission. 14 hours to complete the wartable mission though =[

At least we know most of us weren't missing anything super tied up to his character. I'd much rather have a straightforward go-slay-monsters quest be glitching than one tied to a character's personal story.

Oh right I forget that those are things that exist. I never buy them because they usually horribly inaccurate or out-of-date by the time they come to print - I don't think the writers are comparing them against the gold version. >>

Oh wow I didn't even know this was a quest. I wondered why I was running around deactivating orbs for seemingly no purpose or approval. :/

Yeah...I have a zillion elven artifacts and no dice on the quest for me. ;(

I have no idea how many I have, but I know I've collected a lot! Where can I see how many I've found? Its not under Collections...

Fortunately another elven artifact was still waiting for me in the Knight's Tomb, after activating it I got the war table mission and eventually the quest. You're probably out of luck if activated them all already.

I've got the quest done.

 

From what I see I had probably around 10 activated artifacts.

 

and had very high Approval from Solas.

 

Had his other quest activated but not done yet.

 

Not sure which of these matter.

Did the quest; was underwhelming. Quest doesn't change anything, and doesn't do anything special as far as I can tell, so I wouldn't worry about whether or not you're getting it.

 

Can't say if any of these variables are in any way required for the initial Operation to trigger, but here they are: 

 

- lvl 20 inky

- completed Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts

- completed Here Lies the Abyss

- high approval and romatically involved with Solas

- unlocked a fair number of artifacts (but couldn't have been more than 20)

- also, this was a save from before patch 2, though I hadn't done Wicked till recently. My guess is old saves should work. Whether or not you'll need to activate at least one artifact after whatever patch it is now (I can never tell for sure) is another matter.

After completing the Operation, I was directed to a cave in the Hinterlands to close a veil. The rift in question wasn't any larger or badder than anything else one could encounter, and was as generic as any other veil opening/closing, right down to the creatures spawned and the dialogue that happened in-between. Beyond what was written in the Operation text, there was nothing said or done whether in ambient, or one-to-one, dialogue that would indicate that this rift was special in any form or function. I dare say you will encounter more interesting rifts in higher level zones.

The rift is open. You never encounter an open rift. They were always opened by your mark being in proximity to them, like with the first rift at the Breach in Wrath of Heaven. This is why, for example, the rift in the Winter Palace doesn't have that weird spazzed-out crystal shape until the Inquisitor uses the mark, after Florianne leaves
