Has anyone been able to get Vivienne to leave after having made the mistake of recruiting her in the first place?

I have belittled her at every turn, mocked the chantry, the circle, helped the mages, etc. She just refuses to do anything other than standing around bitching about everything. Even botching her companions quest as abysmally as possible.

Spoiler

I hate that certain companions can be told to **** off at any time (Sera) or can he gotten rid of during their companion quest (Blackwall), but other non-essential companions are like herpies; if you make the mistake of getting them in the first place, they're around forever.

Anyway, if anyone has discovered a way to get rid of her, please let me know.

Duuuuuude, seriously, my first character is a mage that's all about freedom for her fellow mages. She somewhat blindly ignores the risks, that's just how I want to RP her. And if I wanted to RP her as much as possible I would have already kicked Vivienne out and/or beat her within and inch of her life the naggy stuck up...

Anyway, just never her take her with you, that's what I do.

I will be the party's Knight Enchanter thank you very ****** much!

Wow you have just ruined my whole plan of getting rid of Vivienne. I have been on the boarder of kicking Sera but she always does something at the last minute to save herserlf but Vivienne is a completely different story. My husband just started playing 2 days ago and the first thing he asked was, "How do I get rid of this Vivienne chic?" The way she treats everyone is horrible but the final straw was when I took her out with Cole.

If I could burn down her tower of Skyhold I would.

Just finished the game, and there is literally no opportunity to get her out. So if you want her gone, it looks like the only options is not recruiting her at all. She's the ****** Miranda of DAI. But at least you can choose to not bring her along in the first place, so she's got that on Miranda at least.

All right.  In apparently not being able to get rid of her, can we win her over to our side?  There has to be some sort of trade off?  Jack was a crazy murderous ****** but you got to turn her into a school teacher by the next game.  Anyway of turning Vivi into an Apostate teaching gifted children how to ward off demons by the next game?

I'd romance her for that.

It is somehow possible to get her to leave, I think.

Spoiler

On my second playthrough, I will do everything in my power to find the correct combination of actions for making that happen. I hope it's an awesome scene that basically goes like "GTFO Skyhold b****!" :D

Could you just not talk to her and not bring her along when out in the field?

just shows how well she is written, everyone hates her, she is the female equivalent of joffrey, except the murderous tendencies. Still i can't decide if i want to recruit her the next time or not, she is sooo freaking manipulative, and a shrewd, good job making this chick bioware, and making her take a place as a party member.

I get that companions have more layers, at least if you start peeling them, but i just can't relate or even fake interest in knowing who and what vivienne is.

I disagree with Vivienne about everything but I don't hate her, I repest that she stands by her beliefs and that they have a logical basis for existing.  I do wish we could change her mind about Cole by pointing out the evidence over time. As a character she is completely believable and even though we disagree and she is ambitious her voice actress was amazing and even after she corrects you if you show that you accept her criticism she is quick to deliver a pick me up, she was trying to be a teacher, a mentor, an advisor- completely uninvited to fill that role but as first enchanter completely understandable that she would try to guide things. As I said disagree with her on everything but really enjoy her character.

I can't figure out where the edit button is and I have no clue how I typed what I did but repest is supposed to say respect.  Weird.

I hate her so much. I like to use every companion as one of my primaries for at least one play-through, and I thought she would work with my dwarf warrior who feels magic should be strictly controlled. Turns out, I find her interaction with the other ranged characters in this game too despicable to even be funny. I think I'm going to swap her out for someone else this time, then use her in my mage play-through and just troll her the entire game.

That tarot card doesn't occur until the game is essentially over, and you can actually talk to her and ask her to rejoin. I am trying everything to get rid of her in this playthrough.

I'm just never ever going to recruit her again after the current playtrough. I hate her as much as I hate Blackwall and I don't want her around.

I agree. In my playthrough she became the Divine.

Then when talking to her after the ending cut scene, you have the choice to keep her in your party. She stayed in my party because I didn't have a lot of remaining side-quests.

I loved this part of your post the most.

I think that Vivienne was underutilized by Bioware. Given those facets of her personality that seem to turn plenty of gamers off to her charms, I'm surprised that she pretty much remains up in her loft throughout the game. She didn't take part in Wicked Grace. She never shows up in the Skyhold tavern (in fact this was a terrible shortcoming for all companions). Why they tended to remain in a single locale made no sense. I would have enjoyed seeing them appear at random throughout the fortress, with map prompts guiding me to any activities that they may have been participating at times when I needed them. Missed opportunity!

Vivienne seemingly should have been poking her highly opinionated nose into lots of situations, just so she could spout off and leverage the most polarizing of her comments much more effectively.

Pretty much.. the reason she cannot leave is because she is all about the game.. no matter your opinion of her, or her of you.. you are the power and she is drawn to power.. she covets it. On my elven mage playthrough she is already fierce rivals and I only just finished crestwood.. gonna be fun when I get to her personal quests XD

I hate Vivienne as well.  The only reason I recruit her is so can convince one of the people in the hinterlands to joining the inquisition which gives you a agent which helps you with the perks.

I don't use her as a party member and hardly talk to her anymore.

Not a fan of Viv, but I do like contradicting her all the time and seeing her get more and more bitchy and whiny. :)  But I wanted to comment on what you said about the companions not moving around.  One thing that's bothered me on multiple play-thoughs is that we have a nice private suite in the castle -- you'd think our love interest would move there after the romance is solidified, instead of staying in the tavern/tower/field/wherever.  Or at least that we'd have a chance of finding the LI there, like in DA:2 where the LI came to visit at the Hawke Estate.

They do not move up there because we are supposed to be caught out in the open multiple times so everyone can ridicule our choice and the LI has a more open getaway spot after we hit the full "Love" lvl of the relationship and they decide "It's Over".

I cannot stand Vivienne as I have stated above and truly I do not think I have ever despised a character from any game as much as her. With that said,  during my second play-through I chose an Elf-Mage with Solas as the LI, I discovered something lovely. First off when you first meet her in her "home" I decided to have Vivienne deal with the insult in a more permanent fashion and she was all over me from that point forward. Then when I chose Knight Enchanter as my specialization I thought we were going to have another avalanche because she was squealing in delight at such a pitch Mabari were cringing everywhere. And with each decision I made her over the top bottom kissing kept getting worse.

It opened up a whole new world of what this chic is all about and I have to say, I do not hate her anymore. I despise her weakness and her ruse. She is a cruel, hateful, power hungry, ****** who wants more power so that she can make ppl suffer. There is nothing redeemable or trustworthy about her in my opinion.

I also found that as the game progresses, the more you take her out with the other party members and they get to know her, they discover what she really is as well. Solas, Cole and Vivienne has the best banter through out the game when it came to putting her in her place. And the things you find out about what she has done to obtain and maintain her lifestyle is very eye opening. It makes you understand why your dislike is so strong from the beginning. I did take her out with the party a lot more often but only because it is hilarious to watch her being called out on her BS and insulted. Watching her trying to worm her way out of Cole's honesty is some "stop in the middle of the woods and make popcorn" worthy entertainment. Party banter is highly worth recruiting her over and over.
