I want to play through nightmare again, but KE was way to op, almost at arcane warrior proportions. So i was looking for the next best class and spec for nightmare or hard, if you can post the build as well I would greatly appreciate it.
Best class/spec for Nightmare (besides KE)?

Well you could do DW Tempest rogue it's even not invincible like KE but the damage is off the charts.
Someone posted a pretty in depth guide to one:

thanks for suggestion, anyone else? Welcoming opinions (as long as they are accompanied by justifications)

Weapon and Shield warrior. They can tank literally anything (Even dragons), but their DPS is on the low end of the scale.

There are some good combinations but the differences are not very large. Almost any class/spec can be skilled for good success under nightmare conditions. There is only one class/spec which I resist to use and thats warrior/reaver. Everything else works well.

Anything becomes viable once you get good gear. However, before you get the good gear (20-40 hours ish), a Weapon and Shield warrior can carry you through most encounters.

Firstly the inquisitor is basically a clone of one of the companions. So ignoring psychological factors there seem to be two points.
1) You always have to take the inquisitor along.
2) You can only take two copies of the class that the inquisitor is.
Since the game is built up around there always being a SS tank around, point 1 would suggest, for maximum flexabliity, making the inquisitor a sword and shield tank. Since the AI seems to play tanks the best, you will be wanting to control the other characters most of the time. As long as your fine with that then that’s what I would recommend. Point 2 is probably not a big issue if you dont want to do two KEs.
Of course if its important to you to always be controlling the inquisitor, then psychological factors dominate for you, well just pick whatever its not important. From my experience 2handed seems weakest, so pick that for the challenge. I am playing an dagger assassin at the moment. Dagger rogues probably need the most micro management if that’s what you want. If you can get your play through before the first patch, and don't mind exploiting bugs, tempest seem the stronger of the two daggers.
Edit: Just a passing thougt, if you play a rougue, it gives you the option to use stealth to complete some objectives solo without combat. so add to above
3) You can only go solo using the class that the inquisitor is.

A Tempest Rogue either Archer or DW can be almost as good as a KE, or even much superior DPS-wise if you abuse Fire Flask/Focus 'glitch' (people use KE unashamedly, they might as well play a dirty Rogue, though both are likely to be patched, lol).
Seriously, even without the glitch, I have played one and by level 14 the game was absolutely trivial on Hard except for Dragons, I had to bump it to Nightmare but even then I didn't have major issues with the difficulty at that point.
However, I decided to start another playthrough, this time Nightmare only. I want the Inquisitor achievement. After having read many topics here, it seems that Rift Mage is a good option - some claim it is better than the KE, so I am playing one at the moment, but I am still at an early stage so I can't comment on how good or bad it is.
