Winter break coming up an plan on doing a solo as a mage. I plan on dumping all points into magic, specializing into AW/BM, and wearing heavy plate using a staff. Any suggestions, builds, or personal experience advice? All appreciated. This will be on Nightmare.

P.S. For some reason I cannot create this topic in the combat section. Seriously Bioware, why am I restricted to comment or create topics in different threads?

This is the build i do almost exclusively, but once you made magic 38 for heavy armor eligible ,

you better add some dexterity before continuing up magic.

The two starting spells is mana shield & rock armor, it will keep you alive until you can use armor,

and it will add another layer once you got armor.

Spell wisp & might compound each other before activating for example rock armor & flaming weapons,

so those two will be necessary for optimum, and mana clash is a given, the opener when any mage is around.

You will want to switch off spell wisp & might after sustainables is activated,

to free up mana pool & drain.

i'm using wardens boots & blood dragon armor early when mana pool is still low to lash out mana clash,

but with levels mana pool increases so then its Cailens stuff all the way for a PC player.

Health also increases for each level, so its better to select AW first, and then BM when you got any health to cast from.

I strongly recommend the mod that lets the blood magic activator keep running for as long as You want,

instead of vanilla that switches it off when you least expect it.

Hmmm. . solo mage? Well that depends actually on the level of difficulty because. . if it was easy, normal or hard then id still go with the light armored mage without spirit warrior.

Because mages are given tons. . TONS of mofo disables! Mass Paralysis then rain down some Tempest or Firestorm(forgot what it was called) then angle yourself so grease + flameblast or shock could be efficiently used then you always have the ever usable Chain Lightning!

Horror, Petrify, Sleep, Wintergrasp or Blizzard. . these spells are the bomb. Sleep + Horror combo BOOM! Petrify + Crushing Prison combo BOOM BOOM!  Shattering enabled!

Stonefist = knockdown, Force field = disable so you can mana up or hp up, Necessary buffs? Spell Wisp, Arcane Armor, Spell shield, Rock Armor and Haste for increased movement! Note being a mage needs to have Higher Wisdom than Magic so you can spam a lot of these badass mofo spells. You can increase magic alternatively from clothes, weapon and accessories.

Get AW first, then go BM. Wearing armour, even if you don't go for the sword wielding whackiness significantly increases your survivability.

FWIW, virulent exploding bomb is the most fun spell in the grimoire. Not necessarily the most effective, but the most fun.

I agree. . besides the only sword that actually helps mage stats is Spellweaver and I think its only for lightning spells? (not sure). .

or you could use Winterforge mod and make a sword + shield equip with mage stats bonus!! :D that'll make your mage look better and cast with hands instead of staves :D

nah...spellweaver add 5 magic so it add to any kind of magic, and at the same time function as +5 strength,

but if he/she play on computer, the only armor and arms is the kings stuff,

only his sword & shield can power all the sustainables,

while the armor works like a charm for a blood mage with all that health regeneration.

definitely pick up the mod that leave the blood magic ON until You wish to turn it off
