So here’s the problem. I have afairly new computer, I’ve updated all my drivers and what not so Mass effect 2 should be working fine for me. However I have this issue where all the shadows don’t shade correctly and I end up with large black patches instead of varying shades of colors. Here is a screenshot of a dark hallway early on in the game just to give you an idea of how bad this is. If anybody has any ideas on how to fix this I’d love to hear them.

Question 1: What graphics card are you using?

Question 2: Have you tried updating your drivers for the card or rolling back to older drivers?

Question 3: Any change better/worse when you changed the graphics options in the config utility?

A bit more info will be a big help in solving your problem.

What she said and also I need to still get the game tonight in a few hours so I won't be able to help until I get my copy and set it up as a reference.

I’m using a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M
GT. I have tried updating to the latest driver and have rolled back one and
have seen no improvement. I’m pretty sure it's not the graphics card because my
roommate with a completely different card and computer is having the same
issue.

does he have an nvidia card? Thats an interesting glitch..I take it disabling shadows makes everything a-ok?

Do you have anti-aliasing forced within the nvidia drivers? Try disabling that just to see.

(also have you gone elsewhere...eg does this occur on the normandy? Afterlife is pretty dark overall)
