Level recommendations and specific areas/quests

I basically have three questions -

a) How realistic is the level recommendation given for the story quests? I got one story quest with the recommended level of 4-7, when I had just reached level 4. So I intentionally put it off until I was level 6. Now, once again, my story quest recommends level 8-11. I'd just reached level 8, so I didn't want to take a chance. I grinded until I reached level 9, but honestly I'm getting bored of that and level 10 is a lot of XP away. Can I just take the plunge or will I get my ass beat if I do so?

I'm playing at Normal.

B) The other question is about enemy levels. I've been avoiding rifts with higher levels than me. In my explorations, I came across a fortress in the Hinterlands (far south-east). The leader NPC had a level of 9, while my party's was 8. So I took him on and was summarily trounced. He did have a skull on his level icon too. So what does that mean? I've taken on enemies one or even two levels beyond mine and won before, but this incident is making me wary of going exploring.

c) Do the areas accessibly via the War Room have level recommendations? I unlocked the Fallow Mire early on (getting Power points isn't that hard), but I didn't move forward when I saw somewhere that general enemies were Level 12. I was just Level 6 then. But I didn't notice the Area itself having any level markers. Did I miss it? It would be very useful to have, given regions are basically level-locked.

If you are in normal, I`m pretty sure you can handle the missions with levels that just about meet the mission requirements. "Here Lies the Abyss" needs a special mention, it is actually bit harder (just to warn you).

On hard mode "Here Lies the Abyss" was still slightly difficult at the max level of it's range. I still finished it without much stress though. I would imagine on normal mode they're all easy to complete at the low end.

Honestly though if you hate the normal content and just want to rush main story missions you should just put it on casual and treat it like a movie.

I'm sure you mean well - and if I find things too hard, I'll drop to Casual without a second thought - but I find being told I should 'treat it like a movie' very condescending, not to mention inaccurate. Even if combat is super-easy in Casual, I still have to make story decisions and you don't make story decisions in a movie. Visual novel would be slightly more accurate.

Level recommendations make no sense. Final mission is like level 16-19, enemies were scaled to 23 like i was.

I took on the story quest I was dithering about at Level 9. Completed it without too much trouble; I would have lost the boss fight, but at least partially because I made a tactical mistake in accessing the supply cache before losing all my potions. Thank god for cutscene intervention.

I am worried about going forward however. I am still Level 9 and it feels like I've reached story mid-point. I foresee lots of grinding in my future...

Any info about areas with level recommendations in-game? Or do I just have to go to a wiki?

Grinding is doing quests and rifts. Randim enemies don't give much xp.
