The OP probably did not deserve to be as attacked as we was, but he did say that their was a point in which the homosexuality was being "shoved down your throats" and it really is not. So he sort of deserved to be attacked because if a gay guy said "heterosexuality is being shoved down my throat" he would be attacked.

Agreed, he should have worded it better.

I think what most would have preferred is something like a male showing interest in Sera, with her response being "Your thing is not my thing" or "Yeah i don't think that'll work but we have so much in common, we both like women" and be done with it.

The only time this really felt forced, to me, was in Dorian's quest to meet his dad. It reminded me of when the Templar had that plot, the "Tranquil Solution", in DA2.

The writing for both of those was somewhat heavy-handed.

In contrast, I liked the handling of Krem being transgender. It wasn't treated as a huge deal, and even when you asked for clarification, they just explained it and moved on.

We all live in our own carefully crafted worlds in real life, much the same as a video game world. You make decisions, life glad wraps itself around those decisions, and you have to cope with the residue. I grew up in a small midwestern town which had a population of under 30k and 99% of those were white people. Gay people was something you saw "on the cable TV" or maybe you knew one or two people who were teased for being effeminate, but would never openly be gay because that just gets you beat up. That's reality for a lot of the stock of America.

Then I go and move to one of the most "gay" places on earth and most of my friends are not white. I also have friends who are gay. This for my back ground pretty much makes me a model of acceptance and eligible for sainthood, a beacon of light for all the uncultured heathens who come from such places.

That said, I feel sorry for people that latch themselves on to ideas or causes of equality. If they spent possibly more time just working on being a decent person rather than telling everyone else how they should act, they would be doing their part to make our world a better place. As it stands, these causes serve only to further the gap between people who believe differently than them. You're never going to be able to change someones mind about a group of people or an idea or a stigma, but you can change their minds about you, as a person. And it's hard to paint an agreeable picture of yourself when you're busy telling everyone else what they should think.

But just like they ignore you and continue to hate, you will ignore me, and continue to preach. By making this post I probably already care more than wisdom dictates I should, which is already not much.

Seriously why can't the forum be more like you lol, granted I've done my share in this thread I suppose.

I quite liked Dorians quest to meet his father, because it doesn't make you go "woooo support the gays!" It gives you an option to either hear his father out or do what I did and just leave with Dorian as quickly as I could.

Are there actually people claiming that Dragon Age Inquisition has too little heterosexuality?

Off the top of my head: the married horse master in the Hinterlands, the widow in the hinterlands whose husbands ring was stolen, the widower in the hinterlands asking you to put flowers on his wife's grave, the man asking for a cure for his wife in the hinterlands, the mage in the hinterlands whose Templar lover died trying to find her, the couple having sex in the dam in Crestwood, the numerous, numerous women fawning over Cullen, the woman at the grand ball recounting the deaths of her many, many husbands, Blackwall sending Josephine flowers as a secret admirer, whatever is going on between Bianca and Varric, the chantry sister in haven who is 'walking funny' after her night with Bull...

Yeah, Dragon Age Inquisition is really lacking in heterosexuality.

Dorian is one of the best characters in the game, in my opinion. I haven't been able to finish the game, due to bugs, and I have yet to do many of the companion quests. But I did do Dorian's quest. Very well written. Including "gay stuff" in Thedas is all good. Don't shy away from it. BUT i think it was also a very good move to include that not everyone in Thedas is fine with it. Dorian's dad not liking it one bit. Both the inclusion of different sexualities, and also including different views on it, makes the world feel more real and belivable.

It's hard being heterosexual without receiving flak for it, with people around to claim they have their "throat shoved full" of gay'ness. Just play some other game, man. Shove your mouth full of heterosexual stuff instead.

I don't find DA:I chock full of gooey gay goodness or anything. I kicked Serra from my party, because she's annoying, looks like a pig and has the attitude of one to match, and Dorian is never in my party so he just spends all his time in the library presumably reading gay erotica novels. This is how I play the game. If you don't like someone because they're too gay, I dunno find a way to have them horribly killed or something. If you really believe that there is an agenda, the fun part is running precisely counter to it out of spite and being indifferent to what everyone else thinks. Not only is it fun, it's very irritating for them. Enjoy.

The Bioware studio must be full to the brim with "Social Justice Warriors" as much gay/bisexual/whatever content they stuff into their games. Bioware Edmonton is probably the "gayest" studio in the industry.

Anyway, some gay content is fine and can actually improve a game by making the world feel more consistent. In Gone Home (a game about two lesbian teenagers) it made sense and felt very natural, in Bioware's games the gay content feels very awkward and forced. It's like the gay content is there just for the sake of having gay content and it is pretty annoying.

I really just want to play a game and not constantly be confronted with modern social issues in a fantasy world. In most games the sexuality of NPCs is left open (for the player to interperet), but in Bioware's games they seem to be keen on putting labels on every character and have them scream their sexuality from the rooftops, like they are marching in the Christopher Street Day Parade or something.

Heterosexuality is being shoved down your throat in real life as well.

Well, heterosexuality is responsible for procreation. Without heterosexuality there wouldn't be any homosexuality either. There is a reason that it is predominant in media and widely accepted.

I'm less bothered by the amount of in-game homosexual representation and more the general social atmosphere of "You HAVE to support homosexuality." It's as if people think that if you aren't specifically pro-LGBT or you never do a playthrough where you do a homosexual romance, you are BAD person and you need to feel BAD because it doesn't matter if you're personally straight / don't take a political stance on LGBT rights / have a homosexual sibling, thus colouring such interactions in uncomfortable awkwardness - you are a HOMOPHOBE and that's BAD and you need to feel BAD because you are BAD!

...that's what I'm getting from this thread, at any rate.

Oh no, you just asked why people would be stupid enough to not find homosexuality fine, prepare for religion in 3,2,1...

Yes

You have to support homosexuality.

Why wouldn't anybody?

Because it's not something I feel strongly about?

Because I don't feel comfortable about it?

Because I think telling people what they should or should not support is a dick move?

Because of people like this?

Oh no, you just asked why people would be stupid enough to not find homosexuality fine, prepare for religion in 3,2,1...

Don't care if people don't care that I don't care.

Why would I.

You're also missing the point. I'm not against homosexual rights - I just don't want to get involved and it bothers me when people act like you HAVE to get involved (and specifically be on the pro-side).

I actually kind of liked how they handled it. Because the whole conflict wasn't so much about how it was unacceptable that he was gay, but rather about the consequences towards the family's legacy. It was rather interesting, imo.

But that WAS my answer to the actual point. I don't see the reason why BW could not allow someone to DISAGREE with that. It was just a line of dialogue, literally. I really can't understand why so many people are unwilling to accept the fact that BW just went with the "safe route" to avoid being branded as "anti-gay" just because they put a dialogue line that allowed the player to be so.

Yes, I also wish Bioware added an option to let our protagonist disagree with non-white acceptance in Thedas.

Why can't my protagonist banish women from the Inquisition?

Why don't I have an option to execute tall people, or people with bright blue eyes?

Why can't my PC have an option to AGREE with ethnic cleansing?

( /sarcasm )

I, in fact, really enjoyed Bioware forcing gay Dorian down my throat.
