My head is veering dangerously close to a desk! :o

I've known more gay people in real life than are in inquisition and I don't know all that many people to begin with. In DA society (except Tevinter I guess) homosexuality is not an issue. You think you're seeing a lot of gay an lesbian people because you're not used to seeing many in real life but how do you know the sexuality of random people you meet? There is still a taboo despite te progress we've made, people often still feel the need to hide their sexuality, gay marriage is illegal in many states (USA) and there's still a lot of hate speech and even hate crimes being committed. In a world like DA where that has never been an issue (compare it to preferring a partner with brown eyes over blue) you really don't think people would be a lot more open about everything? You don't notice the straight relationships because its expected and even though there are far more throw away lines, quests, npcs, codexes, history, etc...involving straight people, it's the much smaller number of gay people that stick out to some. Why is it weird and hamfisted to rescue a guy's male love but not to get the wedding ring from a woman's male husband?

If you think that Homosexuality is still taboo why do you expect to see complete acceptance of it on the internet?

I put them in my eggs. I used to add a little milk to my eggs to give them a flavor, but now its straight men tears. They are the most flavorful I have found. Though drinking is good too. Definitely like to add them to my wine for extra flavor.

Also I have a lot of interesting fetishes. ;)

I have tears to sell too! I have a bucket full of them because DA:I turned out to be a bad game. Any of you SJWs wanna buy mine? They are guaranteed 100% pure straight man tears!

Anyway, some gay content is fine and can actually improve a game by making the world feel more consistent. In Gone Home (a game about two lesbian teenagers) it made sense and felt very natural, in Bioware's games the gay content feels very awkward and forced. It's like the gay content is there just for the sake of having gay content and it is pretty annoying.

Yes you are right we queers should go back to boring indie games, that is where we belong after all.   ;)

In most games the sexuality of NPCs is left open

brb im off to figure out how to make myself cry.

also, should i  go to my local supermarket and haggle with them, or should i just open up an add on craigslist? Would craigslist get me a better price do you think?

Forgive all the questions, im new at this. If it really takes off though ill ditch my criminal justice major and just sell tears for the rest of my life, this sounds real legit.

Well hopefully it doesn't, at least in the sense that the need for another 5 threads won't pop up afterwords. As long as it stays civil at least. I would like to point out to the "I feed off of straight tears" people. That's incredibly childish, which is to be expected from the internet. However if you notice on the LGBT thread in this sub-forum, straight people aren't going in there acting like you are in this thread(or the other one).

I expected better from seemingly thoughtful and intelligent posters, especially fans of BioWare which is known for inclusivity. My mistake I guess.

I brought the book that mentioned the study of sexuality in Thedas, back when there were only two pages to this thread. I brought it as an answer to OPs question but no one seemed to care.

I saw it, it was probably the only relevant post in the first few pages. Thank you for your considerate and thought out answer.

you know what I love just as much?

When people have this need to take someones respectful and thought out opinion and completely ignore it so they can put words in their mouth and berate them while acting like they are being a certain way when they are not in any way for whatever absurd reason.  I've laughed quite a bit at this since reading this forum and this subject matter in this thread is a hotbed for it.

And then people line up and make their "jokes" on unfounded and made up bs.  Just because they don't like what was said and feel the need to be offended by it. It really is a trip.

Agreed.  Both sides of this are in the wrong.

One side makes jokes about straight men tears and how yummy they are.  The other side makes jokes to each other about SJWs and 'check your privilege, bro!"

Unfortunately, I don't see either side laying down their arms any time soon.

Why are homophobes so obsessed with getting things shoved down their throats?

A number of people have responded to this post I made defending the OP, so I feel the need to contextualize it a bit, and rather than respond to each post individually I'll just quote myself...

First of all, it was largely in jest, primarily because we've seen hundreds of these posts before, really not meant to be taken all that seriously.

And in response to people who insist that the OP in not a homophobe, I suggest you look into the definition of homophobia, because it doesn't just mean outright hatred or fear of homosexuals.

If someone insists that they don't hate gays then immediately states that they'd rather not see or hear about them - even if they honestly don't hate homosexuals - there is still some latent negative feelings about them being expressed there.

I also like to point out that using terms like 'agenda' and describing the mere mention of homosexuality and implied homosexuality in conversations as 'shoving it down our throats' are also fairly noticeable indicators of someone who is not, shall we say, 'comfortable' with the existence of homosexuals in their games.

Once again, a joke - more a reaction to how repetitive these threads have become, than any kind of directed criticism of the OP. In any case, if I genuinely hurt anyone's feelings with this - then I apologize.

Beat them to it.  Make your own E-Ro tear omelets before they can do it.  I suggest ham/bacon, onion, and cheese.

The use of the word agenda itself is a political tool, it's not a negative word but it has negative connotations for most people. This is why I stop taking someone seriously when they say something like "the gay agenda". It's not necessarily an inaccurate description of some people but it's a deliberate attempt to make perfectly fair and reasonable goals and belief seem dodgy. Claiming someone has an agenda makes  them seem untrustworthy even though that's not what the word agenda means.

So yes, there is a gay agenda and there are groups and organizations of lgbt people trying to make the world accept them and see them as normal human beings. No that doesn't mean they are brainwashing anyone or doing anything underhanded.

I think you mean "Both sides of this issue have representatives who are behaving badly." Not quite the same thing.

Anyone getting distressed by this thread should go onto youtube and read the comments under Angry Joe's review of DA:I. Then you will be grateful for this forum and the community here.

these threads. these threads you can always count on the ridiculous extremes; childish dick jokes and the suggestion that obviously the op is trying to 'erase all gay' and from the opposing side, that bioware is pushing an agenda and something something pandering. 50/50 you will get the 'let me drink your tears' oh bsn, you've grown predictable. we need to shake it up. someone bring a pinata or something next time, I holding you to it so help me

anyway, op. there is no agenda. bioware just chose to make thedas a place where sexuality isn't a big deal. this doesn't mean they are trying to force a social issue or anything regardless if you choose to read it that way or not. to others it is nice to see a part of yourself reflected in a game, or for your sexuality not to be some big or dramatic ordeal. there is plenty of that in the real world and other video games. not every video game has to reflect that, and this one doesn't. and I can guarantee you there will continue to be straight people in the future games, just as there were in this one.
