Dark Earth - third person action/adventure
Zak Mkraken & The Alien Mind Benders - point and click adventure from back when Lucas didn't mean "another recycled star wars game with no originality"
Gabriel Knight - point and click adventure from before Sierra fired their talented writers and refused to sell them the licenses to the ideas they created
(not that I'm bitter or anything :P just miss the good old adventure games...)
Battle Chess - old Amiga classic, where the chess pieces would engage in often humourous combat
Cliff Hanger - waaay back on the Commodore 64, a novel puzzle game that involved trying to stop a bandit by throwing rocks into trampolines and catapults
Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet - old, old, old adventure game based on Lovecraft's Mythos
Call of Cthulhu: Prisoner of Ice - sequel to Shadow of the Comet

Beneath a Steel Sky. Heh, I never played that one but I read about it in an ancient issue of PC Gamer when I was like... 15? 16? It looked so intriguing. In other news, I'm a bigger geek than I thought to be at a minimum, familiar with many of these previously cited titles. :o

Let's see...

Clash at Demonhead
Code Name: Viper
Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure
Princess Crown
Panorama Cotton
Prikura Daisakusen
Guardian Heroes
Brainlord

GrimGrimoire of the PS2.

It's a tactical 2D RPG with a superb story, sweet Graphics, little/no lag, & it's Main Story has some pretty good balance, though many of it's optional battles aren't so good at balance & a couple of the optional levels are kinda borked, balance-wise.

4.5 outta 5!

For some odd reason, it's kinda hard to find. It's made by some company i've never heard of before this game called NIS America. Perhaps their kinda small & don't have strong marketing power.

Edit: Oops, almost forgot. Superb voice acting as well. It's hard to remember something like this because good voice acting isn't easy to find. (Probably isn't easy to stick in a game properly either.)

Good game, that.

I'm kind of out of touch with what people have and haven't heard of, but I'll list the ones that I am usually met with blank looks when I mention.

Crystal Caves
Hocus Pocus
Lemmings 2: The Tribes
Mystic Towers
Commander Keen
The Incredible Machine
Populous: The Beginning
Moraff's Entrap
KOULES
Wacky Wheels

i used to play crystal caves as a kid when i went to the hardware store with my dad. it's gone now. went bankrupt and now target is there.

hmmm....how about lords of magic? very average game, but enjoyable.

Space Quest!

The Original Space RPG (of sorts) Probably a bit to old for a few of you youngsters!   Uses the same platform of the original Monkey Island if you know that.  That was great game also.

Then it was game of the 1994. UFO: Enemy Unknown.

I spent countless hours on that back in the day. I actually installed it again about a year ago using a MS-DoS shell program. On the higher levels its still more of a challenge then most game are now! And still highly addictive.

I used to love the old Zork text adventures, Broderbund also did some great ones, Breakers was one and I think one was called Brimstone. They are abandonware now I believe. I found a place that lets you download abandonware games so I downloaded Brimstone, unfortunately you need the original packaging for the copy protection :P

That reminds me. I once played a text based adventure game called 'Dungeons of Moria'. I never managed to beat it. Posted Image In this game, you create a character, D&D style, & the game objective is to reach the deep levels of the dungeon & defeat the strongest, deadliest monster in the game, the 'Balrog'.

Forgot to mention one of my perennial favorites. I'm sure folks have heard of it before, but as far as I know it wasn't a blockbuster title so it should count.

Theme Park World / Sim Theme Park ~ 1999 game developed by Bullfrog Productions and released by EA. A rollercoaster tycoon-type game that was essentially a business simulator. The game featured cartoonishly fun graphics, a challenging learning curve, lots of micromanagement ahoy for compulsive control freaks like yours truly, and zany humor (I used to love watching park visitors throw up on the pavement after a particularly stomach-churning ride). Sadly, as I recall, in my later years I couldn't get it to run on Windows XP and I doubt it will take well to Vista either. It's a shame because this was a truly enjoyable experience and I only have fond memories to sustain it, now. :(
