Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems as if fan reaction towards Dragon Age: Inquisition has been disappointment. What are your thoughts?

I know some people love the game, but the general attitude on here has been very mixed. If I'm being honest I've see a lot more who are disappointed than people who are pleased. It seems as if Bioware was aiming very high with this game, but fell completely short to a lot of you. So many people on here have been voicing their displeasure, and those who bother to give their own personal score of the game have been giving 6 and 7s. Seemingly low for a game of this budget and scale.

For those reasons, despite my personal feelings on the game, I feel like I have to acknowledge that it's critical and commercial success aside, Dragon Age: Inquisition seems to have been another disappointment to the fans. Some thought that this would end up being Bioware's big comeback. The game that would be measured up against the quality of games like DA:O or ME2, and most would agree it's as good as those titles. But as of right now it doesn't seem so.

So many questions have flooded my mind from this, I have to get them out there:

1. 6-12 months down the line will DA:I be viewed in a more positive or negative light? Will those who were harsh on the game gain more of an appreciation for it, or vise versa?

2. For those who don't like the game or were really disappointed, what's your attitude towards Bioware and the Dragon Age series at this point in time? Are you no longer a fan? Are you giving up on it? Do you have low expectations for it's future?

3. Are a lot of fans really disappointed with the game, or is this the voices of a few being really loud? When the dust settles, will there be a lot more positivity towards this game a few weeks from now?

MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

It's a game forum.

Generally that's where people go to voice criticism/complaints/suggestions.

In other words, it's going to look more negative than the general populace playing the game, due to the nature of what the forum is used for.

Its human nature to complain louder than compliment. Do you recall these boards after Awakening was released? Or DA2? Regardless of your opinion of the various games, the reaction was harsh and vocal. Not that they were without merit, but if you're enjoying the game, you're probably playing it, or defending it in a thread someone else has already created.

There is a concern still, bioware is guilty of listening too much to complaints and to the loudest voices no less. That's how DA2 was so radically different from DAO.

I found it to be rather disappointing. In fact, I've found just about major release for this new generation to be a disappointment. The way AAA games are being made these days is the cause, IMO.

To the person above me. No one ever complained about skyrim. So your wrong in that regard. that's why it was a game of the year. The definitely ran out of time though. You can feel it at the end. Their is so much stuff that was left out. You feel like its going to be in the game until the very end though. You are left wanting. still 9/10.

I am disappointed by the large-scale quantity of bugs, I knew the game being a new release would have some issues but it's disappointing to have so many pointed out. Other than that I think it's a great game and I hope Dragon Age 4 continues in the trend of open world/sandbox DA games.

I'm not entrenched in the lore of the dragon age world, I played 1 and 2 and personally I love inquisition. It could be better in areas but couldn't everything ever? I don't know any game will ever captivate me like KOTOR 1 did but this is definitely a great game.

i gave it 5 out of 5 stars on PS4 even though i have the banter bug (so little banter, no more than 20 in 70 hours. as result i felt no connection to my companions), no music and the drums of skyhold are drumming most of the time while i'm there, this is how good the game is, now just imagine my joy when they actually fix these issues

1.) I can't speak for others, but I've grown to enjoy it more my second time through. Taking my time and enjoying it more because of it. Still has the same problems it did my first time through, but I still have hope for the series. I don't know if I should hope for answers to my myriad questions though.

2.) I was pretty disapointed my first time through. I've kinda given up on Bioware, in general, but they still bring a lot to the table. I'll stay for Gaider.

3.) I'd say there's a lot of positivity already. The fact that the game has illicted an emotional response from so many speaks to that. Sure, there's plenty they could have done better, but all in all, I imagine the community is decently pleased. That my take on observing the forum trends thus far. Also seems like the issues that bother people (rather, the threads that get the most posts) all relate to one of three topics. Romance, Factions, Future.

Yeah people complained about bugs in skyrim sure. I was referring it Skyrims story being complained about. And how skyrim lacked certain elements. Skyrim didn't lack anything in regards to story? Sure it had a game breaking bug even I encounted but skyrim was a 10/10 legendary game of all time.

People complained about Skyrim being buggy to the point of being broken, being dumbed down, and having a pretty bad central plot.

Legendary......now you've lost me. The story was good but not great. The side-quest were better than the main story itself at times.

The characters are wooden and weren't very memorable. It got a 5/10 from me. Games like Skyrim are the main reasons why I have gamefly.

DAI is the only RPG that I bought this year. The Witcher 3 will be the 2nd.

This has to be a joke. I hated skyrim, super overrated game. From the story to the combat, that game is mediocre. And yeah, people complained about that game like crazy.

As for inquisition, i really like it. Been playing it nonstop since release,(60 hours logged so far) and the only part that disappointed me was the end. Other then that its an awesome game, better then origins imo.

I hate the combat and the controls. This game was clearly made to played with a controller and that could not have been clearer had ML smashed me in the face with the controller he always uses in gameplay vids. They don't even have edge scrolling in tactical view. Took me the first quarter of the game to get used to the controls and played on Easy till then. Even the UI is not made for a mouse. The tooltips don't change when you move the pointer down to the next bit of equipment, you need to move it away and get it back. And what's up with the lack of user controlled attributes? Why can be only pick skills? It's stupid and dumbed down....These are my biggest complains.

Apart from that the more I've been playing, the game has grown on me. The regions look gorgeous there is no denying. The desert regions, the forests....simply beautiful. Even the character models look amazing. One of my favourite moments was where Cullen talks with the Inquisitor on the battlements after he's convinced to stop taking lyrium. Cullen's expressions as he stands there looking at the mountains and enjoying the cool breeze, breathing as a man who had been newly freed of shackles was so well done, and so realistic that it could not have been done better with real actors.

That said overall the franchise has moved in a different direction that what it was probably meant to when DAO was conceptualized. I am a hardcore fan of the first game and for me that is still the best one out of the three. Maybe it was the characters, the general feel and the atmosphere, but either way I doubt I'll see another DA game match up to that. But DAI is still a great game in its own right. I just hope that next time around they make it a little more like a traditional Bioware RPG.

anyone who played and enjoyed morrowind complained about skyrim, i loved the game but there were so little character options/customization that it didn;t hold my interest nearly as long as elderscrolls 3 did, throw in the fact that no matter what type of character you played you could do everything faction related before you got to lvl 25, but on topic i'm loving DA:I, theres of course some things i wish we could do/have and what not but over all, i love this game

I rather suspect that the complaints will mellow out with time, and after a few patches. The thing is that the first things that you notice in the game are, quite naturally, related to how you control it. And that aspect, at least on PC, was less than optimal.

Further, many players of the series prefer the sort of point and click, pause, move camera however you want, and give commands that will be executed, type of game play, to direct control, without an auto attack. If the tactical mode was better, people would not complain about the change to play style, simply because they could use the tactical mode exclusively, to play the game more or less like the earlier games in the series.

The combination of the change to play style, plus the poor tactical mode, thus was the first thing that stuck out with people. And you know how it is with first impressions....

Those who stick with it though will find a game that is in many ways great, and their opinions may change. If Bioware comes out with a patch that changes the tactical mode so that you are able to zoom out further, and tilt the camera angle as you wish, while zoomed out, I predict you'll see a lot more favorable takes on the game emerging.

If they bring back the companion tactics, and expand the limit of skill slots, they'll be seeing a lot of love from people who now are unhappy.

All these negatives aside, I'm still enjoying the game. I'm hopeful that they fix the tactical mode, but I'd be (very positively!) surprised if they brought back tactics and gave us more skill slots.

As somebody who watched the Bethesda forums rather intensely when Skyrim was released, I can assure you that you are dead wrong.  Many, many people complained vociferously about Skyrim.   I happened to love the game, but a lot of TES fans did not.  In short, you should do a modicum of research before you make baseless claims.

I don't even know how to respond to that tammie. 5/10. You can kill your quest givers even! (some exceptions.) Their are so many different directions you can go in. I never even got to finish doing all the side quests and the were all so good. The world felt real. Alive. Still your awesome tammie cause you enjoy Dragon age so and your going to be playing witcher 3 so that makes you awesome in my book.

Absolutely agree. Oblivion and Morrowind were the best of the series, couldn't get into Skyrim at all.

As for Inquisition and this is coming from someone whom entered the game skeptical having been burned by Mass Effect 3s ending, DA II & SWTORs release I was pleasantly surprised by just how good Inquisition is.

Yes it has problems, a lot of games do nowadays but it's a game where the pros grossly outweigh the cons

While complaints about fetch glut and a less compelling storyline is there (due to it being so spread out over the game), the disappointment that I do share are the bugs, the painful painful bugs. Having to restart my system on a regular basis because it'll freeze up during autosave or just randomly freeze up during combat, the Inquisitor voice switch bug and the ever so frakking annoying dialogue freeze that forces me to skip forward in order to have the scene progress. I love the product behind these things, but I'll love it a whole lot more when these issues are ironed out.

Honestly, while I've voiced some disappointments with the game I still absolutely adore it. I'm already on a second playthrough and I'm planning a few more.

My only real problem is the buildup of the main story or the amount of sidequests compared to the more meaningful quests. Essentially just that there was not enough story or it felt like the ending was too sudden.

The visuals of the game are wonderful, the maps are absolutely beautiful and detailed, and the cutscenes are exactly what I've wanted to see since Origins. The battle at Haven just blew me away. I really like the flow of the battle system as well. It's not too fast like it was in DA2 but it's not slow enough to bore me like it did in Origins. Since I have the PS4 version it was also really easy to use the tactical camera and the first game where I actually used it.

(Note: I am a more visual person so even though I love the gameplay I'm more likely to express my appreciation for things like visuals, animation, etc. My brother talking about what he's learned in his animation classes does not lessen this.)

All in all, the negative probably seems much louder because more people are going to be complaining on forums whereas others would just be playing the game. If my sister wasn't on the PS4 right now then I would be playing it as we speak.
