Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems as if fan reaction towards Dragon Age: Inquisition has been disappointment. What are your thoughts?

The problem is, DAI isn't really much like the games in it's own series. It's not even that close to DA2, and it takes MUCH more from DA2 than it does DAO.

DA:I is like an unpolished Skyrim. It has more story and meh combat + exploration, but it feels like Skyrim.

DA2 felt like a Fable game.

DA:O was full of sweet, sweet nostalgia :3

Angry Joe's Youtube audience may just like joe's reviews, and upvote the video because they like his presentation. He has a very loyal following. Also, his audience is not the entire Dragon Age audience. Just as the forums is not representative of all customers, neither is Angry Joe's channel.

In fact, it's quite possible that a massive % of his channel doesn't even own the game, yet may have upvoted the video. It's not only possible, it's likely. And outside of Joe's channel, have you never watched a review before you bought the game? Of course you have - which means, an upvote from you would not necessary mean you have played the game and approve of the score. I mean, how could you know? My point is that this 'evidence' assumes too much.

Angry Joe played very obviously the game. He points out quite a number of negatives with very valid critism, and accuses EA/BW of really screwing up the the Multiplayer. He docks off one point for the PC version of what he calls a crappy console port. So it's 9/10 for consoles, 8/10 for PC with K+M.

I played the game and I think Angry Joe's review is pretty fair. Is it representative? No idea. But when I read some of the user "reviews" on Metacritic who voted 0/10, then I feel that there is just a lot of baseless hate going around because some people just like to stomp with their feet.

Like who?

Cortez from ME 3 comes to mind. At one point, I dreaded taking the elevator to the cargo bay. Every time I arrived, Cortez would be playing a recording from his dead husband. I was like 'ok Bioware, I get it, Cortez is gay'.

Even if Cortez was a straight male, mourning his wife, I would be like 'Dude, you're not the only one who lost someone close to you, ok? Put the recordings away and let's avenge our loved ones by saving the galaxy and figuring out what color explosions we want to see when this is all over'.

Obviously you didn't do his personal quest lmao or talk to him much, otherwise he'd stop listening to it.

Most people only complain on these forums because if you dare to write a positive review, you get cut down by the jerks and then ousted from the forums. Welcome to Social Network.

This is what I keep saying to myself as I'm playing. If I wanted to play Skyrim, I would just boot that up. At least with Skyrim I can download mods and forget that it's story is just as silly as this one.

I will say this though. I'm glad Bioware made this game. I'm glad I'm playing through it. The most shocking and amazing thing to come out of this game is my love for Cassandra, Solas and Josephine. They are so far some of my favorite characters in any game with Varric being my bro for life and I like what I've seen so far of Cole.

Now that the good parts are out of the way Bioware made me glad again. They showed me something that I will stick to. I will no longer feel some need or loyalty to give them my money anymore. I'm past it. If they give me a visual novel, I'd be ok. Another game? They can hang that up. I have had nothing but a super boring tour through some of the most beautiful locals I've ever seen. The art direction on this game is steller. The game play, they can go back to the drawing board.

I'm going to keep playing to get through to the end. I've sunk forty hours into the game so far and if it wasn't for Pokemon I don't think I would have survived that much.

It's a BioWare board.  Even the reaction to Mass Effect 2 was negative.

I still don't like most of the changes made to the combat in Mass Effect 2, but I can at least understand why they made them.

With Inquisition though I just don't understand the changes. Who did they think this new scheme was going to appeal to? Did no-one at Bioware foresee the dislike it was going to get?

One of Angry Joes main gripes with the PC version was the lack of auto attack... >.<. I still can't figure out how he missed the button 'R' on his keyboard.
And the game is perfectly playable with K+M. Throughout my 85 hour playthrough, I didn't think "the controls are fucked" once. It baffles me how some people are complaining over controls that are perfectly fine.

I wouldn't take this forum as representative of how "fans" feel about the game.

I never said anything about the quality of his review. I merely said that the upvotes don't necessarily correlate to the approval of the score or even that the upvotes correspond to people that even played the game. The content of his review or Joe personally is irrelevant to my comments.

'R' isn't an auto-attack. If you have to press or hold a button to attack, then it is no longer AUTOMATIC.

Exactly. At this point I don't even care about the auto attack. The PC controls are trash. Just because you like them and suffer with them Christopher S doesn't mean they aren't bad. Heck, Bioware themselves have addressed it. The moment that you have to grab a controller or have people ON THIS BOARD tell you that you should stop complaining and play with a controller, something is seriously wrong here.

I've... never felt the need to play as a controller and never felt too constrained by the controls. I mean, they're slightly less convenient than DA2's, but really, there was nothing majorly wrong with them, in my opinion.

If I'm being honest I've see a lot more who are disappointed than people who are pleased.

Without evidence to back up your personal impression, the core point of your post is rendered utterly arbitrary - at best. I've not been the least bit disappointed in anything about Inquisition. What virtually anyone who has visited this forum for any length of time CAN state with a degree of certainty is that the most vocal element present are those who do complain the "loudest" and the most "often" which definitely can slant an overall impression.

I have to add that given the many accolades awarded to Inquisition prior to release, such criticism must be considered in the proper perspective. I couldn't claim that this is the perfect game or that there aren't a number of known bugs or glitches. They are there. I've noticed them too.

But.

None of that matters to me because the folks at Bioware were obviously moved to action by prior criticism and made - at least - a good faith effort to redress past wrongs (often expressed by that very vocal contingent that has now left you with your current impression); plus this game was built from the ground floor up on an entirely new engine. That deserves a little slack from the gaming public!

The seemingly high volume of outrage expressed is suspect and quite a bit of it should at least have acknowledged these details. Since most negative commentary hasn't been cast in that light, I will concede that everyone is not completely happy - but remember that in a lot of instances, there was no satisfying these people any way.

If I had to describe Inquisition in ONE WORD, it would be "grind". That's what the game was to me. I completed it, but I can't imagine playing through it again, especially now that BioWare, like a stern nanny, has given the proverbial finger to players by patching the glitch that allowed for item duplication. I've never exploited that glitch in DA:O or DA:2 because I didn't want or need to. In Inquisition I did because it removed the need for me to spend half the game running about gathering things. It allowed me to craft better armor for my party to off-set the nonsense of having to go back to camp then retrace my steps every stinking time I wanted to heal -- because you can only carry 12 shared potions.  Without the duplication glitch, Inquisition becomes unplayable for me. And frankly, it was barely that anyway. I've always played as a pure mage and loved the previous two installments as such, but in Inquisition mages have been needlessly de-powered, with the coolest spells from previous games removed. In order to thrive, you must become a "barrier mage", casting defensive spells continually (awesome right?), and you can no longer control attribute points. You have to unlock crappy abilities to get a +3 here or there -- then you find out that even then it doesn't really mean anything because the magic stat has nothing to do with spell effectiveness. It's all a "% of weapon%" (lame).

In short, it's as if Bioware looked at everything that was fun about DAO and DA2 and said, "Now what can we arbitrarily remove to prevent this thing from being fun to play?"

That's just me.

Did you really have to open a three month dead thread to resuscitate these tired arguments?

Was there not a currently active whining thread available for your use?

(sigh)

Worst game ever is the most accurate definition for Inquisition.

All the artificial hype can't save it.
People are trying to mod TERA armors in it, I'm desperatly waiting for that to happen! Game can probably be somehow good with TERA armors since it already looks and plays like a generic korean MMORPG TERA armors will add immersion! It will be perfect! It will be kind of weird seeing Thedas NPCs in a korean MMORPG but I will just ignore them, they are just husks of what they once were anyway.

I wasn't disappointed in Skyrim but was with DAI, the reason though was I'm not a huge fan of the Skyrim series. My expectations for Skyrim weren't that high but I still only played it twice. My expectations for DAI were higher than any game I've played, for it to live up to my expectations would have been a miracle. Even with some of the things I was disappointed in I still enjoyed playing it more than most games I've played (the hours I've put in are mind boggling), granted my game library is probably less than most.

Sweeping inclusions are not good.  I, like many other fans(not all of course), do like the game.  I have found some areas that were disappointing like, for example, character animation recycling, and also limits involving character creation, and a recurring DX error, but I still enjoyed the game and have no regrets with my purchase.  Would I buy another DA game?  Yes.  I see few games that rival DA in the genre I favor most.

2. For those who don't like the game or were really disappointed, what's your attitude towards Bioware and the Dragon Age series at this point in time? Are you no longer a fan? Are you giving up on it? Do you have low expectations for it's future?

I personally don't have any feeling good or bad toward Bioware/EA . As for the game it self...watering down the story , and making huge maps and bringing Skyrim like to the front ? bad move . really bad move...

I know one thing , Bioware will never go back to the past . peoples wanted DAO follow up story , and they will never do that . They bring new stories and new peoples in , and discard the old ones . At best they get mentioned here and there , but they will never go back to past .

I saw that with ME3 ending . They never fixed the 'Push the colored button' . Instead they just added the Boy to explain why ya have to push 3 buttons .

Will I play futur bioware games ? Unless someone else start making games with romance...yeah I will .

Do I have low expectation ? Sure , if they keep using the same engine that can't make hair and they keep making GIANT map and discard story telling....they sure gonna deliver Skyrim 2 !

not sure about the general consensus but I'm disappointed with the game

after waiting so long and then getting something like DA:I..****

no focus on a good long story instead trying to be a skyrim-wannabe and focusing on lame lifeless open world areas and generic fetch quests, annoying collectibles, a bland protag, a bad villian, bad combat, no interesting choices to make, lackluster ending etc. etc.

The advisors and characters are good for the most part and I guess the graphics are nice? but thats it

No idea how this game won soo many GOTY awards

I know some people love the game, but the general attitude on here has been very mixed. If I'm being honest I've see a lot more who are disappointed than people who are pleased. It seems as if Bioware was aiming very high with this game, but fell completely short to a lot of you. So many people on here have been voicing their displeasure, and those who bother to give their own personal score of the game have been giving 6 and 7s. Seemingly low for a game of this budget and scale.

For those reasons, despite my personal feelings on the game, I feel like I have to acknowledge that it's critical and commercial success aside, Dragon Age: Inquisition seems to have been another disappointment to the fans. Some thought that this would end up being Bioware's big comeback. The game that would be measured up against the quality of games like DA:O or ME2, and most would agree it's as good as those titles. But as of right now it doesn't seem so.

So many questions have flooded my mind from this, I have to get them out there:

1. 6-12 months down the line will DA:I be viewed in a more positive or negative light? Will those who were harsh on the game gain more of an appreciation for it, or vise versa?

2. For those who don't like the game or were really disappointed, what's your attitude towards Bioware and the Dragon Age series at this point in time? Are you no longer a fan? Are you giving up on it? Do you have low expectations for it's future?

3. Are a lot of fans really disappointed with the game, or is this the voices of a few being really loud? When the dust settles, will there be a lot more positivity towards this game a few weeks from now?

1. No honest way to tell if, something drags me back maybe.

2. Low expectations

3. No easy way to tell.
